I need a cracking book to read to my Yr 2 class

Any suggestions?

Preferably funny as well as a good story. We’ve read The Twits, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Matthew Buzzington, Follow That Bus (that one was a mistake, I’d loved it as a child but it was dreadful to read outloud!) Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear. Any suggestions on a really great book for this term, it’s my last term with this class and they love stories. No David Walliams (it has to have a happy ending!). Thanks!

Out of print, but Rebecca's World by Terry Nation. My teacher read it to us when I was 7.

Beaver Towers.

Year Two refused to go out to break until I’d finished the chapter!

I can thoroughly recommend signing up to the LoveReading4Kids website. It’s free and it has stacks of recommendations. You can search by age or genre but the best thing is that you can download the first few pages.

I’ve done this with my class. We’ve read a few samples & then they choose which one they want to carry on with.

Any Dick King Smith
Jill Murphy worst witch books
Enid Blyton Famous Five or Naughtiest girl in the school.

Pedant alert! Please don't teach the children to use punctuation like this:

No David Walliams (it has to have a happy ending!).
