School experience for William's children

I'm not a royalist by any means so forgive me if this is common knowledge. I saw that George has moved to Eton and it made me wonder how normal of a school experience William and Kate's children have? I know many on mumsnet have dc at Eton or at least they say so so is George just an ordinary pupil there? Does he have a security guard around him at all times? Do the teachers/pupils have to call him by a title? Does he always get picked in games for the best positions because of who he is? In primary school (I know they aren't at the local infants' school, not sure what it's called though) can they go for play dates to their friends' houses or to the local park to play football after school?
Before anyone replies "who cares" work is very quiet at the moment!

Charlotte was competing in a trampoline competition local to me at the leisure centre, with just her and Catherine, although I'm sure there was a discreet security person nearby. I'm sure it's the same with the other kids.

Why was this, does anyone know? i.e. why weren't they William/Harry Windsor-Mountbatten?

I understand it was their father's main title at the time, but aristocratic families have a surname as well as a title. e.g. in downton abbey the Earl's actual name was Robert Crawley, not Grantham (I know that's not real!), the current duke of Westminster is Hugh Grosvenor not Hugh Westminster, etc.

Anyway OP, I suppose the thing is with Eton is lots of the pupils will be not-ordinary. So even though George is unique in eventually being king of the country it's in, there will probably be some other pupils there (particularly those from abroad) whose parents are either significantly richer or more powerful in terms of being leaders of state or heads of multi billion organisations, etc., as well as other royals.

Same to a lesser extent with their primary schools. I doubt any of their classmates are going for an unaccompanied kickabout at the local park or knocking on their mates door to ask if they can come out to play, with or without Louis and Charlotte. They probably can have playdates, just the families will be vetted first and security might hang around outside. But, again, it's possible, even likely they won't be the only kids in that position.

At primary teachers referred to him as “PG”, apparently. I remember reading that when William was at Eaton he was affectionately known as “Prince WOW” (William of Wales). which is sweet.

Op, I have wondered what happens at school and if security are always in the classroom with the children but I suspect not. I can’t imagine how that would be for the other pupils having bodyguards in the actual room. I would hazard a guess that there are a number stationed at entrances and exits.

Re addressing George I think it’s unlikely ‘Prince’ or ‘Your Royal Highness’ is used as parents want them to have a fairly normal upbringing - if that’s at all possible.

Pupils are known by their surnames at Eton. William and Harry were addressed as 'Wales' based on Charles being POW at the time, so doubtless the same will go for George. A younger sibling has 'Minor' appended to distinguish him.

There will be protection officers maintaining a discreet presence.

Special arrangements were made for William and Harry's laundry so there was no chance of anyone nicking the future King's pants as a trophy!

The majority of boys at Eton will be used to socialising with titled people - it would probably be seen as rather naff to make a fuss over George's status, it would mark you out as someone unused to moving in those circles.

Eton is probably his best chance of George having anything approaching a normal school life, that is 'normal' for a public school, not what would be normal for the majority.

How is that not being interested in the dc?

My coworker worked right by Eton when Harry was attending and she said after the first initaial ‘OMG its Prince Harry’ people would effectively just view him as another teen from eton going into the local area at lunch, no special security or anything (that you could see! Who knows if police regularly hid in bushes protecting him)

What a boring life for the protection officers, sitting around all day long outside a classroom, or trailing the kid to sports, gym, down the town whatever. I think I'd go a bit mad.

Oh and I often wondered if any of the Royal kids would try to shake off their protection officers and escape up the backers for a spliff and a can of cider with their classmates, or eye up the local girls in town etc.

They won't be expelled anyway no matter what they do I reckon. George has a glint in his eye that suggests REBEL to me if given half the chance!

I think a lot of people have jobs or responsibilities that others would find boring.

Some have those jobs where they take their responsibilities seriously and find their job satisfying for a number of reasons.

I think we all find our place in life.

Close protection officers are skilled in blending in and not affecting the child’s life, in so much as possible. In a private school setting, they will be there but they will
not be obvious or impede the child in any way.

I'd imagine so, and they are obviously well trained in having to sit around or trail discreetly, ready to pounce if anything happens. I suppose as it's their job, they are trained for periods of boredom and inactivity.

The York sisters had a completely standard school experience (mutual friends). I think it’s different now with social media, camera phones and international interest.

I thought about that this afternoon! It would be so dull, maybe the class TA at Louis primary is actually an undercover officer 😂

I'm curious, if the eldest is known as Major and the youngest Minor, what would a third child be known as?

I’ve seen William and Kate out a couple of times, without the children. They sat at one table, security at another and everyone studiously pretended they hadn’t noticed! I get the privilege/money but it’s not a life I’d want for myself or my children. If my DD were to marry into the Royal family, I’d be horrified (probably not as much as they would be 🤣🤣)
I hope George can have as much of a normal school life as possible.

I always wondered this too, especially when it comes to birthday parties can royal or really high profile kids go if its in a play center etc...

Harry definitely did sneak off for spliffs, he admits it in Spare.

I imagine they can - wearing a baseball cap as William and Kate - many wouldn’t even recognise the children. The fellow parents will

Their friends would also be wealthy. They don’t hire village halls or soft plays…
