School experience for William's children

I'm not a royalist by any means so forgive me if this is common knowledge. I saw that George has moved to Eton and it made me wonder how normal of a school experience William and Kate's children have? I know many on mumsnet have dc at Eton or at least they say so so is George just an ordinary pupil there? Does he have a security guard around him at all times? Do the teachers/pupils have to call him by a title? Does he always get picked in games for the best positions because of who he is? In primary school (I know they aren't at the local infants' school, not sure what it's called though) can they go for play dates to their friends' houses or to the local park to play football after school?
Before anyone replies "who cares" work is very quiet at the moment!

Sorry, just wondering.

Are you policing @jeffgoldblum or the thread?

Who shouldn’t be?

Within family conversations, with regards to non-royal pupils
students will
teachers shouldn’t

Outside the family
Nobody should.

No, once again... I'm talking about staff.
Staff shouldn't be talking about royal children at the school. They shouldn't be talking about any children at the school.
I hope that's cleared up my point.

Absolutely agree but I hope that applies to all royal children and includes Meghan and Harry’s offspring too, because lots of people on this board often comment on Meghan’s pregnancies, the events following Archie’s birth, that Lillibet has a horrid name, that the children are supposedly not looked after properly by H and M, that M she doesn’t brush their hair properly, and more recently about their schooling and security, and everyone seems to think that is absolutely fine?

There was a whole thread on the security for the children's school, but I don't think it attacked the children personally? Correct me if I'm wrong. I've seen some wild posts about the pregnancies and births.
When you ask for evidence about conspiracy theories it usually makes them stop. It's all tinfoil hat territory.
Anyway, this OP is asking for details about the Wales children and their schooling.

TheOvertGardener · 17/09/2026 08:25

Threads don’t belong to anyone.

“I've seen some wild posts about the pregnancies and births.”

Nearly everyone was in agreement about this being outrageous, also.

Yes, that's what I saw.

In fact, many were critical of the OP for starting the thread.

No but it hypocritical be telling other people lets leave children into out of it whilst starting threads where comments about children are made and not saying anything.

damnatiomemoriae · 17/09/2026 16:13

There are plenty of hypocrites on mn. I’ll include myself in that on occasion. Some comments or replies will fit one post and may seem at odds with another. I’m not sure one size fits all.

It seems a shame to just focus on that poster when the point they were making here was right enough. If the comments on other threads were made by other posters then I’d be more tempted to bring it up directly with them.

I'm curious, if the eldest is known as Major and the youngest Minor, what would a third child be known as?

If you have one boy, they're Bloggs. Two boys are Bloggs ma and Bloggs mi (major and minor). Three boys are Bloggs ma, Bloggs mi and Bloggs min (for minimus). If you happen to have four boys there at the same time, the oldest boy becomes Bloggs max (maximus), and then the second is Bloggs ma, third Bloggs mi and fourth Bloggs min. I've never heard of 5 at a time so don't know what would happen then!!

This doesn't happen if you have two boys from different families called Bloggs though - in that case you start getting into first initials as well. The ma/mi/min is only for boys from the same family.

I don't know why they used Wales instead of Windsor-Mountbatten, maybe because it's shorter and more under the radar (there are plenty of normaly families with surnames like Wales/York etc). The princes used Wales in the military, Beatrice and Eugenie used York at school and before the Queen died, William and Catherine used Cambridge for their kids.

I'm not a fan of boarding school for famlies where the children live in big cities with a plethora of good schools, but I've always thought for the British Royal family schools like Eton are great. Lots of other children from wealthy, well-conected families so while I am sure there are all kinds of potential issues with people insinuating themselves to gain favour thats "normal" in their world but there's a lot less of leaking about being bad at games or first girlfriends. And in th emeantime they can attend lessons and do sport and extra curricular like anyone else.

And schools like Eton will have a well established procses for security etc which means any exra needed for George etc is less onerous.

I imagine for Charlotte this is a big consideration. One assumes they'll look at Marlborough for her but I don't know quite how high profile their students are and if they therefore hvae quite the same slick, well organised security and process as Eton most likely does.

Come on now. Are you not familiar with hyperbole or exaggeration for effect?
It’s often used in social media posts to make up for the fact that you can’t hear verbal inflections or see facial expressions when reading typed posts.

I am going to respectfully disagree and say that when one group of posters becomes so obsessed by, and protective of, a British institution, that they frequently try to police the posts of others on an open discussion forum. who don’t hold the same views as themselves, then that does amount to unhinged or irrational behaviour, yes!

It’s particularly irrational, not to mention unpleasant, of posters to suggest that the op has an inappropriate interest in the royal children, rather than just normal curiosity about how the other half live.

And its also irrational to object to general discussion about K and W’s children which is already out there in the public domain, when thousands of posts on other threads about Meghan and Harry’s children, from when they were in the womb to the present day, are apparently totally acceptable.

Are you taking the baton for @Zippedydoobaah who has disappeared ?

I was at uni with a lad who was in William’s year at Eton. They are treated just like everyone else and as has been said frequently, they are far from being the only privileged children or children of celebrities. It’s really not the done thing to say anything about their status or pick up on it (taboo in the same way you wouldn’t call someone in work fat or comment on personal appearance, it’s just really not done). Yes, they have personal protection but it is discreet - all the royals like their protection officers to keep as much distance from them as is safe so they can try to maintain the illusion that they’re not there, and live as normal life as they can. The officer won’t be outside the bedroom door or anything - they are there in public or in unfamiliar buildings but once inside a building known to be safe, like a residence, they don’t follow them in.

Paradoxically, Eton will allow George to have a far more “normal” life than the local comp ever could, albeit one with privilege most of us can never imagine. It’s well-used to dealing with famous children, it’s set up to do it and the parents, other kids and locals understand the code too and will behave appropriately. It’s the tourists in Windsor who will be more likely to invade his privacy.

Apart from the body guards they are treated like the other boys . I glean this from Harry’s book. Of course, being treated like Etonians isn’t really real life. George should have a more rounded education in my view.
