Prince George at Eton

Can anyone explain why Prince George is boarding at Eton when the family home is just minutes away across the river?

I don’t believe that. It’s clear from his memoir him and William barely spent any time together, before or after eton. They don’t seem to have got closer until they were in their 20s

Well Catherine is totally unrelated to the comment, she wasn’t anything to do with the royal family then and isn’t blood related.

granted, William and to some extent Charles are the more academically able members of the royal family.

Because it's a boarding school, and because it will give him a chance to make good friends and to develop his own life and interests - a fantastic situation for any young person, but particularly for George who has such an onerous life ahead of him. If money were no object, I'm sure most parents would do the same for their child.
He's a fortunate young man to have such a brilliant opportunity.

I’m not sure if you know this, but she’s George’s mother so her intellect will have an impact on his scores.

He looks very happy today. He will be cared for and supported by not only his parents, but a range of talented and caring school staff.

If you look at the posts you quoted they were discussing the intellect of the royal family family, with specific reference to Harry and Charles

Not sure I’d agree. I got a 2:1 and did the absolute bare minimum. Both my sons followed suit - dossed about and pulled it out of the bag at the last minute. I can honestly say my 2:1 in English lit was whatever the opposite of a mean feat is.

Most of the current MPs in the Government went to Comprehensive schools. Or, do they not count as important?

My parents both left school at 14 and I grew up in a rough part of East London way before gentrification. It wasn't a part of my world outside of books

Queen Elizabeth II was intelligent and accomplished. Anne and Charles are both intelligent and intellectual too.
So what if Princess Di was not the brightest cookie and Harry took more after her. That is the most likely scenario. She had other qualities, was gorgeous, tall, full of empathy for the many.
Prince George is tall and handsome which means what - that he “couldn’t possibly also be intelligent” as well or some might actually die of resentment.

For the country it is a good thing. A tall handsome and bright future king who will get a great education. That is why the anti royalist don’t like it, isn’t it.

I really fail to see anything but positivity in this and the kid is positively glowing with happiness on the BBC clip, despite the rain. I hope he has a wonderful five years ahead of him. Which I hope most kids starting secondary last week will have too! One does not preclude the other!

Three words: couldn't...care...less

The Royals are an utter embarrassment. They make me ashamed. A bunch of ugly, vulgar, snorting halfwits. I doubt Harry has ever read a book from cover to cover. He is basically a chav/yob with a posh accent. Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Dickens, Keats, Wordsworth, Wilfred Owen, Alan Turing, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Bertrand Russell, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley...those are the people who make me proud to be British.

Two potential problems with that for me

• it could still be true, even if they weren't then close, that their remaining parent might think it best they were kept together after the traumatic death of their mother
• this is assuming that Harry's memoir is reliable and accurate 🤔

There are 34 State Boarding Schools, some co-ed. Perhaps he could have tried one of them. A lot cheaper than Eton and would have introduced him to a wider range of more 'normal' families. Boys and girls he would be unlikely to ever come across and therefore understand going to Eton. Surely an important factor in our future King?

He has every opportunity in the world.
He could decide to abdicate and still spend the rest of his life as part of the richest 0.1%.

Or he could decide to completely reform the concept of royalty when it comes to his 'turn' and live a far more normal life, like many of the european RFs have done.

Or he could go completely off the rails, say fuck it and spend his entire reign getting pissed/high and snorting coke off prostitutes.

Previous kings have done all 3.

There are kids in extreme poverty who literally don't have any choices in life, they are who I feel sorry for.

Perhaps his early childhood wasn't average but he has had a good education, parents in a stable marriage, and all the comforts he can desire - it's a better start to equip him to make decisions about his own future as he gets older than a child who has grown up with SS involvement, or those who slipped under the radar, or even those in 'normal' families who have suffered abuse or significant bereavements.
