I think the significant thing here is not what happened so much as the prominence given given to it by certain newspapers like the Mail and other popular media, which indicates where they are likely to want to drive the story and try to assert influence.

Charles knew, that's the bottom line. He didn't know specifically that Andrew assaulted Virgina but from the time the story broke all the seniors royals would have been briefed on all available details, as would all senior ministers.

Inconceivable that they didn't.

Although I am fond of King Charles he is a weak man. He should have banished Andrew from public life completely when the allegations were first made. The whole family would have known about all the concerns about Andrew and Fergie and their shady grifting for decades, as well as their spending and behaviour with staff. However, I dont blame Charles. Apparently he was against Andrew having the trade envoy role for example. His mother ignored him and has landed him in this 💩. A mothers love only applied to Andrew it seemed (until she needed him to do her job for her because she was too infirm)

He's an elderly man with cancer -he doesn't 'need to be made uncomfortable'. He deserves compassion and kindness.
