Meghan & Harry fallout with Vogue's Edward Enninful

In summary, Meghan wanted the front cover of British Vogue and a multi-page feature about her and H's charity work, to be published to coincide with her speaking at One Young World in Manchester. Edward Enniful wouldn't agree so Meghan withdrew. Now she and Edward are nolonger speaking. There goes another relationship!

This incident seems to me to mirror their larger modus operandi. They overestimate their importance, have a grandiose idea, insist on things being done their way down to the smallest detail, and have a tantrum when they are opposed.

As a PR myself, I am bound to wonder about their role of their PR team in this and imagine with horror being forced to pitch to Vogue. One Young World isn't prestigious enough as a charity and Meghan not a speaker of sufficient clout to warrant coverage of the kind Meghan had in mind. IIRC she repeated her dish soap story again. So where's the headline? In a lather? Jam tomorrow? Substantial coverage demands a heavyweight announcement of something new with national or global significance.

That’s very interesting if true.

I do recall being surprised that Meghan didn’t appear on his final edition front cover, especially as he allowed her to collaborate and be a guest editor (usually unheard of) for her issue and it was the fasting selling edition of the magazine (I even bought it at the time).

It will be watching out for comments from Edward, Vogue and Meghan on the matter.

Meghan hasn't been slagged off for about five minutes. It's about time for another thread.

Oh bore off. Don’t read if you’re not interested.

Maybe if she ( and Harry) didn’t act like twats, bully people , tell lies and sell stories about the RF , there would be no interest in threads about them ?

MrsLeonFarrell · 18/05/2025 15:50

I read that article and the only thing that stuck in my mind was "steaming hot mint tea". Am I the only one that finds it a really odd phrase and a strange detail to include?

Sure. They're the bullies.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to start flogging this dead horse....

Usually with a “I don’t even like Harry and Meghan but…” and “I just happened upon the thread and just HAD to say something” 🤭

I know, there seems no end to the vitriol. Aren't you bored bad mouthing her all the time? It's very repetitive.

It was noticeable that Meghan wasn't on the cover. A key role for comms teams is to cultivate relationships with publications and journalists. It must be very difficult working with people who are so good at destroying them.

I actually think it's a shame for the charity. I'd love to know what was offered, if there was a compromise that was refused.

It does seem like there’s a pattern where they manage to alienate the very people they work with, which can’t be easy when your public image depends so much on media support.

According to the article, a smaller feature was offered than the one proposed by Meghan's team, and Meghan's team asked for the cover of the digital edition. Enninful refused the cover and Meghan withdrew, which shows it was about Meghzn, not about the charity. As publications plan months ahead, the fact that Enninful had already chosen the cover shot suggests that Meghan's team pitched late. The date of the Manchester speech was presumably agreed months in advance.

Who ended up being on the front cover of the edition in question?

SunnyDaysAllDay · 18/05/2025 16:33

Editors hate being shoehorned into publishing something to coincide with a PR campaign. Many will do it if the celeb is big enough but it eats away at their journalistic integrity! So I can only assume that it was felt H&M’s celebrity status didn’t carry enough clout.

September 2022 was Linda Evangelista. QEII was the cover in April 2022 for the jubilee.

GailPlattsDeadHusband · 18/05/2025 16:38

I wonder if the Queen being the cover in April is what prompted Meghan to ask for the September cover.

Ellmau · 18/05/2025 16:38

Oh dear, they do seem to fall out with everyone in the end, don't they?

Thank you 🙏

It’s a very striking image and I can see why they wouldn’t want to compromise on it.
