The royal family

Meghan & Harry fallout with Vogue's Edward Enninful

In summary, Meghan wanted the front cover of British Vogue and a multi-page feature about her and H's charity work, to be published to coincide with her speaking at One Young World in Manchester. Edward Enniful wouldn't agree so Meghan withdrew. Now she and Edward are nolonger speaking. There goes another relationship!

This incident seems to me to mirror their larger modus operandi. They overestimate their importance, have a grandiose idea, insist on things being done their way down to the smallest detail, and have a tantrum when they are opposed.

As a PR myself, I am bound to wonder about their role of their PR team in this and imagine with horror being forced to pitch to Vogue. One Young World isn't prestigious enough as a charity and Meghan not a speaker of sufficient clout to warrant coverage of the kind Meghan had in mind. IIRC she repeated her dish soap story again. So where's the headline? In a lather? Jam tomorrow? Substantial coverage demands a heavyweight announcement of something new with national or global significance.

I didn't know about the back story. Had I known, I wouldn't have made my flippant comment about her hat.

Demanding a change of cover is so high-handed!

You didn’t say anything mean, don’t worry about it 🥰

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 18/05/2025 18:58

Interestingly all this happened around the same time that she did the The Cut interview that took the piss out of her.

I actually think it's a shame for the charity. I'd love to know what was offered, if there was a compromise that was refused.

There was a massive spread offered but not the cover and not the digital cover that Meghan requested .

Thedom · 18/05/2025 20:11

There was a time when Meghan Markle first married Prince Harry and could call the shots, how her influence has diminished since then!

Enninfuls is launching a new magazine, maybe Meghan will end up in his new magazine eventually, and grateful to him for the opportunity.

Oh, that was Linda returning to modeling after that fat freezing treatment left her disfigured.

Which is a far more important and inspiring story than Meghan promoting Meghan a not very well known charity.

(I like the hat tilt.)

Arguably yes. As far as a fashion publication is concerned, LE was/is an icon, and what happened to her and her return to modeling a far more obvious interest story for their readership. But the charity would have got an unprecedented amount of exposure had they had taken the offer of an article, even if they didn't get the cover. I dod wonder how they felt about MM turning it down due to her bruised ego.

Indeed. And they also hate approaches about non-stories.

Given what we now know about Sentebale and African Parks, with controversy around Invictus, and possible financial irregularities at Archewell, it's just as well the proposed feature didn't go ahead.

Wasn't One Young World itself also under investigation at that time as well? I believe they received a warning from the Charity Commission about the annual salaries and bonuses that the CEO and her daughter were being paid amounting to over £400,000.

All while the kids "young leaders" are charged over £4,000 in conference fees and accommodation to attend the 3 day summit (not including VAT or travel costs).

I do recall something along those lines. The whole set-up looks flakey.

It's another example of how royal status is dependant upon proximity to the monarch and how it fades quickly when you are no longer a working royal. I'm betting The Princess of Wales would be on the cover.

Snorlaxo · 19/05/2025 12:20

A LE cover considering the background is a massive deal and I don’t think there’s anyone who could hand toppled that coup for British Vogue. I’m surprised that Meghan’s PR firm didn’t ask after the guest editor issue.

I guess she scuppered herself when she said being on the cover of Vogue would be “boastful” (presumably a dig at the PoW, who’d been on the cover a couple of years earlier).

MissFenellaPrism · 19/05/2025 17:34

Indeed. Just a pop at Kate.
Karma 👍

JSMill · 19/05/2025 17:59

It’s crazy how jealous she is of Catherine. I thought feminism was about supporting other women and lifting them up?!

She's no feminist.

Yes, I think the Sussex's dream of 'an alternative royal court of Camelot in California' [registered in Delaware] is long gone.

Now they're simply traders hoping that next year, Rodders, they'll still be millionaires. Just.

Selling pancake mix and jam, and merching links to clothes. It's like a Greek tragedy.

Vitrolinsanity · 19/05/2025 19:44

Linda has covered for Vogue 99 times, including the highest selling copy in 1992 (with the other Supers).

That kind of history doesn’t get get usurped by Mrs Sussex, particularly on the September cover. Particularly given Linda’s recent medical history.

MM was a fool to pass up what was offered.

Thank you 🙏

It’s a very striking image and I can see why they wouldn’t want to compromise on it.

I bought that Vogue even though I don't normally precisely because it was Linda Evangelista's first shoot after her public revelation of her botched fat freezing treatments. I was interested in that interview and shoot particularly as it seemed really brave.

Given she had looked like this, it was brave and quite inspiring

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10552677/Linda-Evangelista-seen-without-face-mask-fat-freezing-procedure-left-permanently-deformed.html

That was a BIG front cover story in fashion worlds and no way would they have bumped this for Meghan and a charity no one knows.

Linda Evangelista back on Vogue cover after being 'deformed' by procedure

It's a year since the model said a botched cosmetic procedure had left her "brutally disfigured".
