People Excited About Coronation: How Hard Are You Going?

tigger2022 · 01/05/2023 21:48

Thought it might be nice to have a thread for people who are looking forward to the coronation! I know some feel more cynical but we have loads of threads that always descend into slagging off Kate, so I thought the unapologetic optimists should have a safe space too 😂

So… how hard are you going?

I have actually bought the 6mo baby a coronation costume 😁😂

I give it two pages before the Sussex squad arrive to piss on your parade 😂.

If it's nice weather I'm sure we'll sit in the garden and get drunk, eat cakes and enjoy all the pageantry. No costumes I'm afraid, though I might dig out a Burger King crown.

😂😂😂😂

Wouldn’t surprise me if Charles used a burger king crown, sustainability and whatnot

Yes I give it 5 minutes!

I have just put some flags up. I’m lucky enough to have both my parents still alive and looking forward to celebrating with them.

Lamelie · 01/05/2023 21:58

You’re brave!
We’ve got
elderly relative on the sofa ✔
red white and blue napkins ✔
Union Flag cupcake holders ✔
gin ✔
Menu planned ✔
Royal Top Trumps ordered ✔
Unfortunately I can’t rally much company so I’ll be enthusing HARD

pilates · 01/05/2023 22:00

If I read a thread that pisses me off I just scroll on. Pity others can’t do the same.

WheelsUp · 01/05/2023 22:02

Did you buy any Coronation merch?

Did you buy any Coronation merch?

Not exactly, but I did buy an official corgi toy and BP guardsman babygrow for ds to pose in for the ‘gram

Oo! Merch! I have a mug and tea towel on their way free with eleventybillion pounds worth of coffee

ExpatInSlavikLand · 01/05/2023 22:11

Bought 2 flags with the King's face on it (one from an armed forces charity), getting out the UK-Slovak flags bunting we had at our wedding, going to put them all up around the living room and kitchen (each on opposite sides of the flat) just so all our neighbours will see that a proud, albeit bonkers, British royalist lives amongst them...

Also got my 18 month old daughter a little coronation PJ set from Next and an official coronation teddy bear, and I have my eye on a bone china commemorative plate...

Am making coronation chicken sandwiches, my version of the coronation quiche, scones, teacakes, and a victoria sponge, and I'm going to serve them all on my M&S coronation paper plates etc...

I am dressing up for the event, so is my poor, poor husband (at least he is very interested in our history and the more colourful monarchs, so it won't be unbearable for him!), we're going to drink whatever it is King Charles really enjoys as a tipple (just got to find out what that actually is), and we are going to pop open a very nice bottle of local 'bublinke vino' after King Charles is formally proclaimed as such!

QueenGorilla · 01/05/2023 22:14

We have bought some of the craft kits from
Baker Ross - little Beefeater Bears, Crowns and Union Jack windmills. DS has seen the crowns and can barely contain himself. Every day he’s been saying he “needs to wear something on his head today”. He’s been offered a sun hat but it’s the crown he has his eye on. Recipes will be largely Pimms based. And he can’t quite say Camilla. We’ve progressed from “the king’s gorilla” to “Queen Gorilla” so we may get there by Saturday!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 01/05/2023 22:16

I am recovering from a major op last week. DH will be back in work by then so I will be spending the day in my arm chair. I am planning to make myself an afternoon tea to have at lunch time - a piece of quiche (not royal quiche, just ordinary), Coronation chicken sandwich, scone with jam and clotted cream.

So far as merch is concerned I have a Jack Russell shopping bag from Tesco bought because I am passionate about Jack Russells.

ExpatInSlavikLand · 01/05/2023 22:17

@QueenGorilla That is adorable 😀

WeAreTheHeroes · 01/05/2023 22:23

I'm providing a completely British cheese board at a family member's - they're hosting elderly parents and us. I have fond memories of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, but I was about 4!

Marchintospring · 01/05/2023 22:24

Our cool neighbours on the estate ( gay, media types ) have put two massive flags out. Not sure if it’s ironic or liking the monarchy is so retro it’s fashionable again.
Hopefully others will follow. The village is going all out as it does for everything. Any excuse. Street party, bands in pub garden will be an all nighter.

Kittykatchunjy · 01/05/2023 22:26

Flags up, food ordered, really annoyed about the weather forecast but nothing we can do about that

Hbh17 · 01/05/2023 22:34

I have bought a bottle of champagne and my husband has requested Coronation chicken 😂

MayQueeen · 01/05/2023 22:43

Love the dressing up ideas!

mondaytosunday · 01/05/2023 23:00

Will watch it on TV. Street party on the Monday which my daughter thinks we must go to - I'd rather not as I don't know many of the neighbours and I'm really surprised she wants to go as she's very antisocial but guess an hour or so will be ok. It's bring your own stuff.
My mother was the same age as the Queen and went to see her go by on her coronation.

polkadotdalmation · 01/05/2023 23:02

Unless it rains there will be a do on the 'village green' despite it being the size of a postage stamp. Any excuse for bunting and booze.

SummerLovingDays · 02/05/2023 06:11

Well....
I have the bunting, a fake crown, mugs, lots of flags, tea towel, Union Jack clothes for the kids and coronation gnomes!
Going to watch it on tv on Saturday with lots of scones, coronation chicken sandwiches and coronation quiche.
Then the street party Sunday.
Yep I'm going all out and can't wait. I love all of it.

So1invictus · 02/05/2023 06:22

I'm abroad but planning wall to wall TV on Saturday and will be raising a glass to my Mum who would have loved every second and would be sitting saying "say what you like, nobody does royal dos better than us"
DD is at university in the UK and I've told her to buy me some merchandise but to wait till next week 🤣 I'll buy myself a "nice" mug to put with my Silver Jubilee stuff and Queen's Coronation stuff that I inherited.

ShippingNews · 02/05/2023 07:32

I'm in Australia, so no merch ! But I'm making a Coronation Quiche, for our family event

ShippingNews · 02/05/2023 07:35

Oops pressed too soon. I've bought crowns for everyone, and a bottle of champagne. We're not all republican over here !

Serenster · 02/05/2023 07:47

We have a street party on the Sunday, and about a third of the houses on the (Victorian terraced) street have put bunting up already - it looks very festive!

skullbabe · 02/05/2023 08:04

Unfortunately I will be working but I’ve bought bunting for work (and a commemorative M&S shortbread tin for me) and I’ll make a cake (that quiche does not look at all appealing to me - sorry C&C). I’ll have it on one of the computers and hopefully we’ll have a down moment to watch. I’ll be going into work in my Union Jack shoes, hair clips and a royal blue dress, red cardie but think a white sash belt will be a step too far 🤣. Getting excited now!
