People Excited About Coronation: How Hard Are You Going?

Thought it might be nice to have a thread for people who are looking forward to the coronation! I know some feel more cynical but we have loads of threads that always descend into slagging off Kate, so I thought the unapologetic optimists should have a safe space too 😂

So… how hard are you going?

I have actually bought the 6mo baby a coronation costume 😁😂

I think Nick Caves thoughts on the Coronation are perfect and sum up how I feel (only much more eloquent than I could have put it)

I've got the ingredients for the Coronation quiche. I've bought a postcard about the coronation and a tin of McVities biscuits, which has a cheerful coronation design on it. I intend to watch it. Last time it was a short time in a neighbour's house with a little TV and some merry games on a wet afternoon, up at the school. I remember a little bit about it. My very rich aunties (teacher and nurse) could afford commemorative books after the 1953 event.

Today I had my coffee in a smallish white pyrex Charles and Diana wedding mug which I bought from a charity shop some years ago, long after they were divorced. I have another which I bought at the time of their wedding.

I will look for a coronation mug for this 2023 one, but haven't seen a nice one yet.

In a local curtains/cushions/duvet shop there is a splendid window display of a bed with red, white and blue bunting above it and a Union Jack (Flag!) duvet and pillow case etc. I had this demon desire to quietly leave a little tampax on the pillow.

I am enjoying the run-up and expect to enjoy the day, sitting with my feet up, drinking Sandringham apple juice.

Think that Nick Cave comment is brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing how a ceremony that in its essentials goes back to the Anglo Saxon kings is reimagined and recast for the 21c. Champagne is chilling already.

@IntheHillsofMarmilla Thank you for sharing Nick Cave's post, he absolutely hits the nail on the head!
