Who watched it then?

I thought it was beautiful, truly captured Christmas spirit. The Ukrainian story and the man who’d lost his wife both made me cry. The carols chosen and the chorus were excellent. Really lovely Christmas Eve TV!

One question though: where we’re Edward, James and Louise? Sophie was on her Tod! I thought it was sweet the W&C waited for her at the end, it’s interesting watching the dynamics and I feel like they’re especially close to that side of the family

I watched it and really enjoyed it! I found the tribute to the Queen during the piano instrumental to The Bleak Mid Winter and the Ukrainian Choir were both emotional

MrsFinkelstein · 24/12/2022 21:47

I have it recorded on Sky+, will watch it tomorrow morning hopefully.
We are currently in our traditional family Christmas Eve watchathon of 'Nightmare before Christmas' and 'Die Hard'.

tsmainsqueeze · 24/12/2022 21:48

Who on earth picked Mel C to sing silent night ?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 24/12/2022 21:48

<whisper> Die Hard is not a Christmas movie you heathen

Who on earth picked Mel C to sing silent night ?

OK so this is my ONLY criticism.

Mel C is a good singer and actress in her own right, I’ve seen her a number of times on the West End and she’s very good at what she does.

However - partnering with an absolute vocal God like Alfie Boe….who made that decision?! He drowned her out to the point she looked like she was miming, I could hear her. Odd choice indeed, when you think of all the incredible female vocalists.

Samantha Barks was excellent

Who on earth picked Mel C to sing silent night ?

I know! Who thought putting Alfie and Mel together would be a great idea! He can sing, she can’t ( sorry Mel 🫣)

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 24/12/2022 21:52

I could barely* hear her

I thought it was lovely too, and cried at the Ukrainian darlings and the lovely old man.

Mel C was my only down note.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 24/12/2022 22:02

I was very skeptical about this, but others wanted to watch. I thought it was a pretty good success, and lots of the music was fantastic.
Interesting to see so many of the royals - no sign of slimming down yet.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 24/12/2022 22:04

I watched it and thought it was great. A few emotional parts for me

Oh god this was exactly my thought. Poor Alfie Boe 😢
Beautiful service though , the pictures of her Majesty appearing on the piano, and the Ukraine choir were awesome x

I think Mel C will have been chooses for her work towards domestic violence

Or maybe because she a Spice Girl and that’s Very British Indeed? I just thought singers were chosen for their voices and other guests were there for their charity work?

You could be right. I just know Mel b had experienced it and I’m sure she spoke about it. But Mel C might have too. Too many Mels. 😂

Ellmau · 24/12/2022 22:12

It was lovely.

I was a bit surprised to hear Walking in the Air in an otherise quite traditional carol service.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/12/2022 22:14

I too, thought Silent Night a low point

The children are always so impeccably behaved, I wonder what the secret is

I don't think slimming down the family will be about banning existing members going to events, or compulsory euthanasia...
