Who watched it then?

I thought it was beautiful, truly captured Christmas spirit. The Ukrainian story and the man who’d lost his wife both made me cry. The carols chosen and the chorus were excellent. Really lovely Christmas Eve TV!

One question though: where we’re Edward, James and Louise? Sophie was on her Tod! I thought it was sweet the W&C waited for her at the end, it’s interesting watching the dynamics and I feel like they’re especially close to that side of the family

Think this will be new tradition for me instead of carols from kings which I used to listen on the radio with the ex.

HangOnASecond · 24/12/2022 22:19

I caught some of it but was in and out. I will try to watch it properly at some point as it sounded lovely. There was a lot of burgundy amongst the Royals. And George looks more like William than ever, he looks so grown up. Cute kids. I didn’t notice Sophie was on her own, but went off her anyway after I saw her with her arm around Andrew after the walk around looking at the floral tributes left when the Queen died.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/12/2022 22:14

I too, thought Silent Night a low point

The children are always so impeccably behaved, I wonder what the secret is

Promises of Haribo after the service? That’s my go-to be a joke blackmail for church 🤣

I wonder what age they’ll start bringing Louis to these things.

His mum had died!! Sometimes you put family shit aside in times of grief. Was she meant to push him away?

Agree, I'm not religious so this is a better balance of traditional carol service and religion for me. Those Ukrainian babies though! Peace on earth, goodwill to all. X

He’s not someone who feels for others when he can do what he did. I wouldn’t put my arm around someone who had been involved in anything like that. She wouldn’t need to push him away, just not put her arm around him, seems easy enough.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/12/2022 22:32

I'd imagine that there are some Royals who can only live with it by burying the facts behind the delusion/conviction its a stitch up. I always imagine it's an issue for Harry and Meghan though they've never said so.

To judge her for comforting a man over his dying mum is quite plainly ridiculous. Even if it is A Bad Man.

Thats your opinion. I have mine. I don’t comfort people who have sexually assaulted others, even when their mum has died. And I will continue to judge those that do.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 24/12/2022 22:51

I don't think slimming down the family will be about banning existing members going to events, or compulsory euthanasia...

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant Hmm

AutumnCrow · 24/12/2022 22:56

When the descant of O Come All Ye Faithfull started, why did that row of women in the pews start of laughing?

Just a bit curious.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 24/12/2022 22:58

I spotted that crows.

I thought it was lovely and I don't usually bother with things like that.

Mel C can sing, she has a good voice but it isn't a 'big' voice compared to a classical singer. More amplification would have made all the difference but I was glad to see her there.

The event mustn't have taken months to plan but it was very well done and moving in parts.

secretfreckle · 25/12/2022 08:47

I enjoyed it.
Mel C has a great voice, but was terrible in Silent Night. Samantha Barks did not sound good either and she was great in Les Miserables.
George and Charlotte were so well behaved; her little face when she heard Paddington mentioned! So funny that they don't trust Louis there yet.
The montage of the Queen on the piano was lovely.
I notice she invited lots of black singers and readers to address the 'RF is racist' claim by H and M.

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 25/12/2022 09:34

Yes, there was a lot of diversity shown. Difficult not to feel cynical about that, but I guess they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

DorothyCannoli · 25/12/2022 09:42

I too thought the Mel C and Alfie Boe combo was odd. It would have been ok just one of them but their voices didn't work together in my opinion.
I HATED the version of walking in the air. It needs to be sung by a young male voice!
I sobbed through the Ukrainian school section and loved the Paddington reading by HB.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/12/2022 10:05

I usually hate Walking in the Air, but I much preferred Samantha Barks' voice to a treble. Horses for courses. Grin

Last year there was plenty of diversity too.

bakalava · 25/12/2022 10:10

Mel C - grrrr.
I don't like how the Spice Girls have all reinvented themselves to be associated with royalty and the aristocracy. It does not work.

Just put Die Hard on now waiting for Hans to show up 😂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Am I the only one who simply forwards to the bit where Hans shows up... Grin

Well, Andrew is Harry’s godfather, isn’t he.

He always seemed more close the Yorks, whereas William always seemed closer with Zara

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/12/2022 10:15

Another one here who may drop Carols From Kings for this lovely concert in future - for me there's now too much of the choir with Kings and not enough other pieces (agree about Mel C though!!)

And a very Happy Christmas to everyone on Mumsnet Xmas Grin
