Who watched it then?

I thought it was beautiful, truly captured Christmas spirit. The Ukrainian story and the man who’d lost his wife both made me cry. The carols chosen and the chorus were excellent. Really lovely Christmas Eve TV!

One question though: where we’re Edward, James and Louise? Sophie was on her Tod! I thought it was sweet the W&C waited for her at the end, it’s interesting watching the dynamics and I feel like they’re especially close to that side of the family

Yes, there was a lot of diversity shown. Difficult not to feel cynical about that, but I guess they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Didn't Charles invite a lot of black performers to Harry's and Meghans wedding?

I don't think slimming down the family will be about banning existing members going to events, or compulsory euthanasia...

😂😂😂

I think there were so many there this year because it was honouring the Queen.

I think H&M said KC was the one who put the choir together?

They had suggested a gospel choir, and he set about getting the best singers from various choirs.

I think it’s a bit harsh to suggest it’s just because of them there was a diverse performer set. There’s nothing in the past to indicate it’s ever been an issue for them to promote diversity

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 25/12/2022 10:28

Oh, I agree it's not a new thing, I think there's good representation (nowadays) in all aspects of their work, e.g. in the military parades. Such a stark contrast to when I was growing up, and only right in my opinion.

I'd imagine that there are some Royals who can only live with it by burying the facts behind the delusion/conviction its a stitch up. I always imagine it's an issue for Harry and Meghan though they've never said so.

They don't seem to have any problem speaking their minds. So if they thought the RF was deluding itself over Andrew, I'm sure they'd add it to the litany of things they're not happy about. Maybe they too think it's a stitch up. After all, Harry has known about this for years yet still hangs around with his uncle. So I don't know why you'd imagine it's an issue for Harry.
Or maybe it's been lost in the multitude of their own issues and delusions.

I was a bit disappointed that Craig David didn't do his own rendition of 12 days of Christmas.

Who on earth picked Mel C to sing silent night ?

I thought that- she murdered it !

He also suggested the black cello player, Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Charles is very interested in all the arts and invites many upnand coming performers to the Palace to help promote them.

All looked very stiff and awkward Camila always looks terrified .

sashagabadon · 25/12/2022 10:40

I enjoyed it. Agree about Mel c. She was ok but not outstanding. I liked it overall. I wonder how you get an invite?

Is Charles a racist now?

Septemberbeginnings · 25/12/2022 10:53

I was at the live carol service. The duet between Alfie Boe and Mel C was a hundred times worse live. It was truly excruciating. Whoever put the two of them together has absolutely no idea about singing.

I couldn't fault Samantha Barks' performance, but she changed the whole mood of the song for me. It completely lost the innocence of a child singing it.

I was bored by halfway through Craig David.

Disappointed that the Ukranian children didn't sing a verse in Ukranian. The abbey choir were divine though, and I thoroughly enjoyed Paddington.

Livingbyariver · 25/12/2022 11:00

When Kate greeted Camilla prior to service starting, she kissed her on both cheeks, then I think she remembered she had to curtsy, it looked odd!

Wee conversation with Charlotte prior to Paddington was cute!

Mel C was embarrassingly awful!

Coxspurplepippin · 25/12/2022 11:01

We enjoyed it. I like listening to Carols from Kings on my own, pottering about in the kitchen or wrapping presents, but the Princess of Wales concert was lovely to watch with the family and a glass of fizz. Nice mix of music, although do agree Mel C was a bit warbly.

She did the same way round with Charles. So must have been protocol. Maybe family, then institution?

Look at 2.50.

AutumnCrow · 25/12/2022 11:40

Mel C has a pop-rock voice but she's been in musical theatre and maybe the musical director thought that she should be able to manage singing 'in the ballad style' with Alfie Boe.

Possibly the MD stuck them together 'on paper' and didn't test them out together properly in Real Life.

Interesting @Septemberbeginnings that it sounded even worse inside the Abbey!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/12/2022 12:01

Camila always looks terrified

I don't know about terrified but she's got a very obvious tremor going on - it was noticeable at the Jubilee and even more so last night

Peasepuddingbloodycold · 25/12/2022 12:21

Is Charles a racist now?

Yes, I hear he's a racist now father.

So glad someone got the reference Grin

AutumnCrow · 25/12/2022 13:13

Careful now

sashagabadon · 25/12/2022 13:20

I suspect if this Carol service becomes an established Xmas thing which I suspect is the aim then the

sashagabadon · 25/12/2022 13:22

Sorry
better singing combos will be invited in future?

SnottyLottie · 25/12/2022 15:18

I had it on in the background this morning whilst the children were opening their presents. It was better than I expected it to be. The story of the Ukrainian school was very heart warming and got me a little teary.

Agree about Mel C not being best suited to the song. But other than that, I was pleasantly surprised and will be watching it in the future should it continue.
