£14 and not even released yet. Probably six pre book sales. 🤣

So much for a world publishing phenomenon

Lots of big new books are half price at W - Michelle Obama, Jamie Oliver, Jodi Picoult etc etc. I think you might be reading (ha) too much into this.

onlylarkin · 15/11/2022 16:49

So is Michelle Obama's book which shows published 15/11/2022.

It is a marketing tactic and not at all indicative of if a book will be a flop or not.

Lejuge28 · 15/11/2022 16:50

Not a Harry fan by any means but quick look on Waterstones shows many new releases or pre orders are half price.

Michelle Obama's new book is also 1/2 price as well.

SparkleTart · 15/11/2022 16:51

It's number 2 on Amazon.com best selling list and not actually for sale yet, is it?

Think the Christmas books are always half off to get you into the shop.

This post is a bit embarrassing.

SparkleTart · 15/11/2022 16:51

Anyway, where can we find your latest book username?

username8888 · 15/11/2022 16:54

Did anyone seriously think people would pay £28 for it?

OP posts:
username8888 · 15/11/2022 16:56

I wonder if it will end up like the Royal Doulton wedding figurines of him and his DW?

I agree. I guess some posters on Mumsnet don't understand how publishing works these days 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 15/11/2022 17:17

So much spite on this post it's rather sad

username8888 · 15/11/2022 17:18

My wonky table would benefit from a book under the leg. I may buy it for just such a purpose now it's so cheap.

OP posts:
ItsRainingCatsAndDogsAgain · 15/11/2022 17:19

I don't think the OP likes PH much...

jonesy1999 · 15/11/2022 17:20

Oh god OP, give it up.

Just admit you've misread this.

Who cares what you do with it. What a silly thread you have started.

YoureSuchADramaLlama · 15/11/2022 17:21

Robert Galbraith’s new release was on pre order for half price when I ordered it, no clue why you are so gleeful about a book being on offer.

No one thought/thinks that. It is a very effective marketing tactic. There are entire stores in the US that uses this type of marketing. Price high and put it on sale.

This book is going to be/is already a best seller. Sorry to burst your bubble.

LynetteScavo · 15/11/2022 17:22

No one was ever going to pay £28 - the half price thing is a marketing strategy. It'll probably be £11 on Amazon prime a few weeks after release.

And the OP will be adding to its success from the sound of it.

Needmorelego · 15/11/2022 17:23

No big name new release books are sold at cover price ever.
They are always half price or something% off.
Do you ever actually go into a book shop this time of year? It's standard.

ItsRainingCatsAndDogsAgain · 15/11/2022 17:24

The OP doth protest too much, methinks. All this righteous indignation, she won't be able to put it down!

username8888 · 15/11/2022 17:24

I love Prince Harry, hence my delight I can afford to buy his book.

OP posts:
LadyHarmby · 15/11/2022 17:24

It’s about market share. It’s half price because it’s going to be a bestseller and Waterstones want to to grab as much % of the sales bonanza as they can.

PH says he loves you too, OP, and he and his DW can't wait to buy your book to level their own wonky table.

Michelle Obamas book is four years old though, obviously the price will go down, Harry’s is brand new.
