The royal family

The Norwegian Royal family seem to have gotten it right

Princess Martha retains her princess title, but will step back from Royal duties, she will not use her Princess title or mention the Royal Family in any of their commercial endeavours or social media.

Her husband-to-be will not be given a title.

It seems a very dignified and appropriate agreement from all the parties involved.

Maybe a similar agreement for the UK royals could bring back some semblance of decorum to the train wreck that it has become, with the RF burying their head and hoping it will all go away, and PH and MM promoting their royal connections and titles for financial gain.

Just get rid of all the titles. It is ridiculous having any hereditary titles.

Readinginthesun · 09/11/2022 09:36

Is there not a Bill going through Parliament to make it easier to remove titles?
I agree with your comments OP and thought the king’s statement was interesting.

The difference is that Martha and her partner appear to have accepted this with alacrity. A similar approach to MM and Harry would presumably be met with tantrums and outrage.

And imagine the outrage on here !? All we would hear is what about Andrew ?
If H and M had a shred of decency, they would voluntarily give up their titles .

Maybe in relation to just this one issue, perhaps? 😮

They have had plenty of controversy to put the British one in the shade. Didn't the queen run off with her LA shaman and her husband subsequently topped himself? That is next level compared to the Meghanigans..

Not quite . Princess Martha’s first husband was an artist who had drug and alcohol problems and , sadly , killed himself after they divorced .

Readinginthesun · 09/11/2022 09:45

King Harald has been married to Queen Sonja since the 1960s

Okay, so it was the princess who left him for the shaman.

Mumsnut · 09/11/2022 09:52

They had been divorced for years I think by then

Croque · 09/11/2022 09:58

Ok, I checked. They divorced in 2016. He took his own life in 2017. Nobody really knows when she grew close to the shaman one way or the other.
Actually, I can see how they handled her transition a whole lot better than the British RF did in Harry's situation but she was cooperative and keen to move on rather than asking for a half-in half-out.

Readinginthesun · 09/11/2022 10:16

They announced their separation in 2016 , divorced in 2017 and he killed himself Christmas Day 2019 .
No idea when the shamen came on the scene but I do know ( from a friend who lives in Norway ) that he is regarded as a dubious character.

This is the difference - Martha was keen to establish a different life and was agreeable to dropping her title however Harry wanted a different life whilst clinging i. To titles and privileges such as paid for security.

It's also in contrast to the Danes where the queen's grandchildren were suddenly stripped of their titles with the parents telling the press how furlous and upset they were.

Wasn't this the result of said grandchildren profiting off their titles? I am not sure how sudden the stripping of titles was. Apparently, discussions had been ongoing all year.

Readinginthesun · 09/11/2022 10:50

From what I read , there had indeed been lovely by term discussions. a proposal was put to the younger brother in May and he didn’t respond . He was then told that an announcement would be made .
It certainly wasn’t done on a whim .

Readinginthesun · 09/11/2022 10:50

Long term not lovely !!

StartupRepair · 09/11/2022 11:17

Yes the Norwegians discussed it together so were able to put on a united front to announce it to the press, unlike the Danes. That is what I was trying to say. I think it was sudden for prince Joachim who didn't realise the discussion had concluded.

Why is it when European royalty marries or seeks to marry a person of colour, particularly black, that partner is always met with suspicion and criticism by the same individuals on MN? And then you ardently claim that there are other justifiable reasons other than race for this dislike and commentary. You may even convince yourselves of this. But the pattern of behaviour still remains.

I’m delighted that these couples (including H&M) have stepped out, undeterred by the loathsome opinions of a few. And long may their journeys towards happiness continue, unconfined by factors such as race, and set an example to future generations of European royals.

I applaud Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein and his wife Princess Angela of Liechtenstein and all those who have followed since, and will continue to follow in the future.

It’s a reminder that your opinions of these royals do not matter, regardless of the number of threads you start and populate on MN each waking day.

Furthermore, H&M are and will likely always be titled royals. And may their children also adopt the titles to which they are entitled.

I don't think said that they did (matter). It's just a chat.

Look into my eyes. Look into my eyes. You're under 😂

Out of interest, what do you know about Durek Verrett, Marulatree? Other than his skin colour, I mean.

I think the answer to that will be very little . The man has an “ interesting “ history ! Nothing to do with colour .

That he would unlikely be spoken about on MN by the royal watchers were it not for his skin colour. And, no, your protestation would not convince me otherwise.

Yet the Danish Royal family has been extensively discussed recently ?

I don't know if a post was removed, but I can't see a post where someone mentioned skin colour of anyone.

The discussion was about what appears to be a dignified agreement and approach to a Royal family member moving on to do their own thing outside their Royal Family protocols, and not using titles or connections to promote their business.
