The royal family

The Norwegian Royal family seem to have gotten it right

Princess Martha retains her princess title, but will step back from Royal duties, she will not use her Princess title or mention the Royal Family in any of their commercial endeavours or social media.

Her husband-to-be will not be given a title.

It seems a very dignified and appropriate agreement from all the parties involved.

Maybe a similar agreement for the UK royals could bring back some semblance of decorum to the train wreck that it has become, with the RF burying their head and hoping it will all go away, and PH and MM promoting their royal connections and titles for financial gain.

Being elected as opposed to be born in the right family not profound enough for you ?

Ohnonevermind · 11/11/2022 10:01

Dynastic politics happens everywhere.

I’m in ireland (a republic) and many are folllowing fathers uncles cousins into politics, you just need to find someone fighting in the GPO during the Easter rising

I’m unlucky enough to have the Healy fucking Rae’s as my local politicians. Don’t start me on them, my blood pressure is already rising 🤣 Sons, grandsons, granddaughters following their dad. Grandson - convicted of assault - still a councillor. They spend their time attending funerals of people they don’t know in their constituency for hand shaking opportunities (and future votes) and claiming every last penny they can. They don’t care about the country, they just want to hold onto their power.

and breathe

No-one is really elected if you study the system for long enough, plus, see @Ohnonevermind 's post below.

There are some great people getting into politics unfortunately far to many ‘not so great ones too’

we had one grandson Tom McEllistrom here too. He was so bad he was known as ‘Tom the turd’

on the other side you have the Sinn Fein, who seem popular but my local one (now retired ) waiting at the prison gates to welcome two armed IRA robbers who went to jail for shooting an unarmed Garda (policeman) sitting in his car and were released under the good Friday agreement

In the US it seems to be down to money. How much can you spend on ads promoting yourself and attacking the opposition,

look at the republican candidate in Georgia. Nasty man.

Lol I too have spent hours arguing about the uselessness ( and worse ) of the UK royals only to find the 'royalists' are neither in the Uk nor citizens .

It would help if posters made it clear every so often that it's all theoretical for them . Some do .

Given you are clearly not Norwegian or living in Norway Novella, and given your post above, I wonder why you think you are qualified to opine on the use or otherwise of the Norwegian royal family when that is all theoretical for you? It’s surely up to the Norwegians whether they want to live in a constitutional monarchy (as things currently stand, it has an approval rating of around 80%, so a clear majority).

Ohnonevermind · 11/11/2022 10:47

There people in Russia, China, Myanmar and other countries risking their lives offering a critical opinion to corrupt regimes so your comments about being arrested for holding up a poster are beyond crass.

There is no logic to your comment @Serenster .
I was saying ' all monarchy is wrong' I wasn't repeatedly following minutiae about the Norwegian royal family
It's been eye opening for me - I've been assuming regular commentators are in the uk!
Now that I think about it , you can tell UK commentators about the royals on here ( apart from regulars ) . They come on once , say something like the 'royals don't give a fat rat's crack about anyone else ' ( still laughing at that one )

@Ohnonevermind
No you are wrong .
These things are on the same continuum.

Lots of people were angered by the treatment of protestors during mournathon.
