@Roussette

This is all very interesting.

I just read somewhere that the RF had assets in the US and assumed the private citizen bit was about them being siezed or something.

I had a poke about and apparently (allegedly) the Queen owns a horse farm in Kentucky and prime real estate on Park Avenue in NYC.
We, the public, know nothing do we.... Shock

The Queen doesn’t own a farm in Kentucky, she boards any mares in the US (though she has far fewer these days) at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky which is owned by former US Ambassador to the UK Will Farish.

I visited Lane’s End about 15 years ago, they’d recently built a covered walk way at great expense so that Her Maj wouldn’t get wet while viewing her horses.

The majority of her Bloodstock (racehorses, not carriage horses or ponies) are kept at The Royal Stud at Sandringham. I have had the “pleasure” of dealing with her current racing manager (son in law of Porchie) - he’s an odious little man!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2022 16:50

The prospect of any US politician making a media circus out of a royal visit in the event of Andrew losing and becoming liable and not paying is a hell of a risk to have to factor into the equation

Yes, it is - to say nothing of whatever stunts H&M might pull to distract attention from the visitors
For a certainty they'd get banners with "Pay your bills!!" and the like plastered over them, so maybe they'll wait until whatever happens with Andrew's case has happened?

nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 16:54

They will blame the sussexes for why they cannot go to the US when frankly post the Crown in netflix, the various Diana movies and Andrew its a farcical excuse

But it is very on brand for the RF

Roussette · 18/01/2022 17:00

Ahhh thanks CaveMum it did sound a bit bizarre!

Doesn't really matter. Do we really need a broken royal family ?

In fact .... Grin

So the Queen is protecting her finances in the US rather than doing the decent thing by removing PA’s titles. So interesting all of this.

Queens gonna queen.

Roussette · 18/01/2022 17:02

It's all an unholy mess isn't it....

There's always been scandals and gossip about them, but this is really on a whole other level. It's not so easy to bury what they want to anymore.... it does make me wonder about decades ago, before SM, what we don't know.

It's the triple threat

A woman on a mission (VG)
Social media
American media

The key take away for me is how out of control the whole edifice is. Temper tantrums about Teddy bears, no real HR, no records and no ability reprimand people and enormous entitlement bred into them.

This is and was entirely predictable. Why would you retain a firm and business that is unqualified for diplomacy and no proper management or incentive to change.

Vapeyvapevape · 18/01/2022 17:12

I wonder how many pubs will want to change their name ?

There is a very very tasteless joke there about underage drinking.

Reason enough for some breweries to make some changes.

@Vapeyvapevape

The 'private citizen' thing was just a statement from the RF it doesn't hold any actual legal bearing does it ?
I think it's to distance themselves from the (probable) hatchet job
nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 17:26

I always find the distancing etc odd

The RF claim their superiority is ordained by God. If Andrew is a sex offender he is still part of their clan. This notion that the RF can choose to shun people based on popularity is really odd and counter intuitive.
They have set the template that the public has the right to pick and choose who is eligible to be head of state. Sounds a bit like democracy which is not something the RF should be encouraging

SerendipityJane · 18/01/2022 17:29

The RF claim their superiority is ordained by God

Even if they don't claim that (they do, by the way) there are others prepared to scrape the knee that do.

My God made everyone equal.

MoggyP · 18/01/2022 17:34

The divine right of kings hasn't existed in it's true form since the Magna Carter, which meant that there were limits on the sovereign

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2022 17:35

It's not so easy to bury what they want to anymore.... it does make me wonder about decades ago, before SM, what we don't know

I suspect we don't want to know, Roussette - or even if we want to, we wouldn't like what came crawling out

Fortunately for the RF the Windsor archivists are pretty skilled at what they do, and no doubt the shredders work overtime Hmm

nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 17:41

At the coronation part of the service was not broadcast because the anointing bit was a sacred act. The monarch is head of the church of England

I wasn't referring to divine right per se, I know that is long gone as you say moggy
Their rights to rule are curtailed but they have a lot of power. Andrew is testament to that. Were Andrew just another cash poor aristo struggling to heat his castle having left the navy, Jeffrey and ghislaine would never given him a

nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 17:42

Second look

SerendipityJane · 18/01/2022 17:42

@MoggyP

I think someone forgot to tell Henry VIII

In theory, the divine right was snuffed out with Charles I, and Charles II (who may have had a lot in common with Andrew) was required to accept that as part of his deal to wear the bling again.

In practice you trying being King or Queen and see how far you get.

And the "limits" you mention that are placed upon a Sovereign are mainly to reflect the fact that - much like malaria - are a parasite you can't get rid off, and that remains with you till you die.

nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 17:49

My true point is that there is no choice
It's luck of the draw

The RF PR which is relentless negative to sussex and Andrew is dangerous to them. They need warm indifference from the majority and a few loud super fans... basically what the Queen has.
Creating a dynamic of comparative popularity is a door that can swing both ways. Particularly since these are middle aged people of middling intelligence with no real skills

Mamamia7962 · 18/01/2022 17:54

Nottodaybatman - I thought the Queen Mother's Debts were settled from her estate, not by the Queen.

nottodaybatman · 18/01/2022 17:55

I understood she put all her money into trust for her beneficiaries so it could not be touched by creditors. So the debts had to be settled by the crown.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/01/2022 18:21

I think we'll need a new thread to cope with Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile

Blossomtoes · 18/01/2022 18:23

@nottodaybatman

I understood she put all her money into trust for her beneficiaries so it could not be touched by creditors. So the debts had to be settled by the crown.
She left 20% in trust for her great grandchildren, the rest went to the Crown and the Queen paid her debts.
