Williams charity raised millions last year alone

It raised substantially less than The Donkey Sanctuary.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:24

What is your point @CathyorClaire, isn't raising Millions for charity a good thing?

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:26

See when you say stuff like that Cathy, it makes me think that you're pushing an agenda, rather than having a sensible discussion.

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 21:28

@amusedtodeath1

There's no evidence that it doesn't help, a mental health charity gets more attention so more people know they can get help.

It's not rocket science.

A lot of charities have too many people contacting them needing help. That kind of awareness is rarely needed. What they need is more money.
amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:28

Or maybe you're just so invested in being right and shutting down theads that you've lost your sense of reason?

CathyorClaire · 14/01/2022 21:29

the awareness of having a Royal figurehead is more than about raising money, awareness is very important to charities

Awareness must be all the harder to promote when the annual royal visit rate stands at a dismal 26%.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:31

@AllThePogs, I'm not sure that's true of all charities, in fact some charities are specifically set up just to raise awareness of issues, you know like S.O.P.H.I.E. for example.

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 21:32

The Royals do not raise money for charities like The Princes Trust, the staff do.

derxa · 14/01/2022 21:33

@amusedtodeath1

You too derxa, I know how you feel, remember Mumsnet isn't real life, thank god.
Indeed. The endless virtue signalling which changes nothing in real life Il faut cultiver notre jardin
amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:34

Oh so you've gone from "patronages are pointless" to "they don't do enough".

Why not just admit you're a republican and anything they do is wrong in your eyes, rather than trying to find increasingly absurd justifications for your dislike of them. It would be more honest.

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 21:35

@amusedtodeath1 that is true. But the Royals do not tend to support unusual or controversial charities that need awareness-raising. Diana did with Aids charities, but since her, no other Royal has done this.

CathyorClaire · 14/01/2022 21:36

I'm right, yes. But how'm I shutting down "threads"? Confused

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:36

@AllThePogs

The Royals do not raise money for charities like The Princes Trust, the staff do.
They have staff, most charities do. What's your point?
amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:39

Both Wills and Harry have and probably are still involved in working for AIDs, they took on quite a few of their mothers patronages.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 21:43

They do a lot of good, love them or hate them, that's up to you, I don't care, but THEY RAISE MORE MONEY FOR CHARITY THAN THEY TAKE FROM THE TAX PAYER.

I don't need anymore than that to believe we are better off with them than without.

Each to their own

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 21:43

I mean look at who these charities actually are that they support. The Royal Caledonian Hunt - who promote hunting?
Royal Society Club - a dining club?
Civil Service Motoring Association
Combined Cavalry Old Comrades - Club for former members of the Household Cavalry.
Countryside Alliance - Exists to promote field sports, including hunting, fishing and falconry, as part of country life.
Gallantry Medallists' League - Association of ex-Service people who have received gallantry medals.
Household Division Yacht Club - Sailing club associated with the British Army.
And so on.

I have never looked at this before but I am scandalised. There are some decent charities in there, but a lot of these so-called charities the Royals support just look like hobbies of the aristicracy.

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 21:46

@amusedtodeath1 my point is that Prince Charles does not fund The Princes Trust. The staff apply for charitable grants to deliver the activities.
I think Princes Trust does excellent work, but its association with Charles does not fund it. In fact, it makes it harder for them to raise money as people assume that Charles is funding the charity so they don't need the grants or donations, when Charles does not.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 21:47

THEY RAISE MORE MONEY FOR CHARITY THAN THEY TAKE FROM THE TAX PAYER

You can shout that all you like. I don't believe it to be true.

@amusedtodeath1

Both Wills and Harry have and probably are still involved in working for AIDs, they took on quite a few of their mothers patronages.
Can you provide proof of this because I don't think it is true.
cherryonthecakes · 14/01/2022 22:01

The closest things I've seen

William visits LGBT youth charity
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48774280

Catherine visits charity for addiction
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58970448

I had a quick Google and Harry seems to work with the Terence Higgins Trust (HIV charity)

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 22:18

Ten second Google search

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-39338438&ved=2ahUKEwj_-_jIorL1AhUH_qQKHcaCDrAQFnoECDUQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2DJ-kCuhZozDGUhCapeYhE" rel="nofollow" target="blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-39338438&ved=2ahUKEwj-_jIorL1AhUH_qQKHcaCDrAQFnoECDUQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2DJ-kCuhZozDGUhCapeYhE

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 22:19

Harry is not an official member of the Royal Family. So his work with an HIV charity is not relevant to what the Royal Family do.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 22:19

I'm not running away, I'm going to bed, just in case there's any confusion. Goodnight AllSmile

AllThePogs · 14/01/2022 22:21

@amusedtodeath1 Night.
So the RF do not support HIV charities. Harry does.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/01/2022 22:22

He was at the time of that visit, I said Wiils and Harry were or are involved in Aids charities, you ask for proof I provided it. Know when to admit you're wrong.

Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let this shit keep you up all night Wink
