The royal family

Does anyone have children who attend the same school as a royal child?

I was just reading a story about princess Charlote and how her school friends call her a different name. Does anyone have a child who is in the same class as a royal? I’m wondering what it must be like, I’m guessing the other children would know if they had a prince or princess in their class. Im also wondering if they are all invited around each other’s houses or to birthdays etc. If so, I wonder do Will & Kate allow the kids to attend? Just so many questions ☺️ I’m sure a lot of the parents must have had to sign a confidentiality clause or someone must be carrying out security checks. Unfortunately I doubt the children can lead a normal life, I suppose they are still so small but as they get older they may have more opportunities to see friends after school. What does everyone think?

I doubt anyone will tell you that kind of info!

KittenKong · 08/09/2021 20:22

Not a British prince. He was a... right little emperor!

The security guards were cool though (looked like social services types with little badges with the princes face on). But the cars! Usually 3 large cars bringing him to school. He rarely walked (he could but he didn’t want to). Sports day was interesting...

I think you are being incredibly nosy and have no need to know this

The Royal Family have fans and supporters from all around the world who probably wonder the exact same things that I asked in my OP. It’s called being curious about our Royals and how they lead their life. Just like we are curious about famous people that we support, we want to know what their life must be like. It’s only a question it’s not a big issue. If it’s such a big issue and I’m nosy then why is there a section on mumsnet called The Royal Family 😂 what do you expect people to post in that section. I would have assumed it would be questions about The Royal Family or did I misunderstand?

A colleague was in the same year as Harry at Eton but was very vague whenever he was asked about him. I think he and the others felt Harry deserved a relatively normal school experience.

Not British Royalty but very well known privileged aristocratic child with security.
We wouldn't have known if she wasn't recognisable. Lovely parents who turned up at events but didn't really stay. Was generally dropped off and collected by Nanny ( as were several others) but additional security in tow. Otherwise we really wouldn't have known. In fact Nanny and regular security guard could have been parents if we hadn't known. Lovely girl. Came to several school parties and was just another kid.

"princess Charlote and how her school friends call her a different name"

She's probably just known as Lottie. Nothing more dramatic than that.

George and Charlotte use the surname Cambridge.

They won't be the only very wealthy people there', and no doubt there's probably richer families. Certainly Harry and William weren't the only Princes at Eton etc.

Or he probably didn't know him. There something like 250 boys in each year group.

Oh give over Hmm
BrilloPaddy · 08/09/2021 21:00

I've always assumed that their names are their formal names and that they're called something completely different behind closed doors.

OmgIcantbelieveshedidit · 08/09/2021 21:03

Yes I went to school with a member of royalty- they were nice and normal. Parents didn’t turn up to stuff and we weren’t invited really for tea etc they had their own circle of friends

Winterwonderland2244 · 08/09/2021 21:05

I know that’s partly why I was wondering what their school life must be like. William & Kate could have chosen to home school but they have attempted to give their children a normal life (as much as possible in their situation).

According to the article I read she is called "Charlotte Cambridge" at school. So not really a different name at all. Other than her name being Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of somewhere something blah...

I know someone who went to prep school with the DofC who wasn't royal then obvs
And someone else who went to Eton with William.

Dobbyafreeelf · 08/09/2021 21:13

It's fairly well known that Charlotte prefers to be called Lottie. So I imagine she's known as Lottie at school.

00100001 · 08/09/2021 21:14

@CiaoForNiao I meant the other kids probably just call her Lottie :)

Theworldisquiethere · 08/09/2021 21:17

A friends son went to nursery with Zara Tindall’s daughter and she came to his birthday parties

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/09/2021 21:21

Its not like they send them to the local state school... they are at a prestigious Prep school. With other wealthy parents (and I believe other minor royals). Ever since it was announced that George was attending I'm sure Charlotte's classmates parents did the maths and worked out the possibility.

Yes most likely. That's what I assumed when I saw the headline. But then it said she was called Charlotte Cambridge at school. The only reference to Lottie was saying that's what the DoC calls her. It was as always a disappointing article. Would have been far more interesting to hear they call her Sally or Ghanjsu or some nonsense.

I can't imagine a bunch of 6 year olds, who are from wealthy families anyway, would care much. I know my nieces wouldn't believe she was a real Princess if she told them. Because princesses wear big gowns and tiaras Wink

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/09/2021 21:24

My DDs, at the ages of 4&6, came to the conclusion I was actually a Princess as I attended parties in long dresses with hair done up etc... with DH in full uniform.

Children can be wonderfully innocent.

00100001 · 08/09/2021 21:25

It always is a disappointing article.. because there's fuck all to say about a 6yo going to school, so they have to make clickbait headlines like "Princess Charlotte known by a different name at school...." Making it sound like they're calling her something like Isadora Penelope Criffing in an attempt to somehow make her less recognisable...

Or "you'll never guess the rules Royal kids have to follow..." And the print shit like...they have to walk alongside their parents...or they can't go scuba diving on a pony whilst wearing a tutu...

That's minor royal though... because you had to refer to their parent Grin

Everyone knows who Princess Charlotte is, Lena Tindall though? Might just be the kid four doors down.

TooNaiceToBeTrue · 08/09/2021 21:29

DD did a year with a Lord. He was a really nice kid but then moved house and also school.

True! I definitely wouldn’t recognise them myself

00100001, if I knew how to make one of those smiley things work I'd put 10 in a row. Sometimes I think I'll take a pen to the supermarket and pause by the magazines and write down the prat headlines about the Royals, which obviously attract my interest.
