What on earth is going on with Princess Charlene of Monaco?

The latest update doesn't seem to make a huge amount of sense - a sinus infection has kept her away from Monaco since January? I understand that would mean you couldn't fly, but surely someone with her status would be offered another mode of transport to return to her children?
She doesn't look well in the video, I hope it's just poorly shot and that she's not seriously poorly.

There were lots of rumours that she tried to runaway before the wedding. If she has finally escaped the guilded cage there is no way she would be allowed to see her children. They 'belong' to the principality.

I really feel for her. He is a creep. She has been trapped for so long. If it was really an illness and he was on board with her needing treatment he could presumably take the children to see her in SA, which he doesn't appear to have done.

She tried to run away before the wedding, but Albert/his people had her passport. Perhaps the South African embassy and government refused to assist and/or persuaded her to cooperate in the marriage. I can't see any other reason she couldn't have obtained a replacement passport and simply left Europe.

Whatever the reason for the present situation, Albert seems extremely unpleasant and any divorce from him and also any custody matters will be unspeakably vile.

I understand the children have been to see her.. I hope that's true.

It's just all so wierd. Her brother moved out to Monaco years ago and lived a quiet life there. But recently he has been appearing with Albert and co. on balconies, at public appearances etc. With his children (or maybe just daughter, I forget). But why now, while his sister is in SA allegedly househunting with their father.

I am intrigued.

I had a bad feeling when I saw the video of her. She looks desperately unwell and strained.

I hope she's there of her own free will.

I read that Albert has ( again) been named as the father of a child with another woman and there is to be a court case.
Maybe too much for Charlene . Or indeed any woman .

Yes something isn’t right in that video, if I’m brutally honest I thought she’d been drinking, but maybe it’s drugs she’s taking for her sinuses.

What sinus infection does she have that will mean she has to stay there for like 10 months? It doesn't make sense. She looks really awful in that video and like she's not telling the whole truth. Who knows eh.

She is still young 43? Perhaps it’s her only chance to start a new life.
I don’t buy the sinus infection story, my frontal and maxillary sinus infection were so severe I needed surgery to extract them, even then traveling was not restricted .
Albert seems very cold , his sisters , if stories are true , are all horrible to Charlene .
Who would want to live in such a toxic environment ? No one

I do feel sympathy for her. I don't believe she has ever been happy in her marriage, which probably should never have taken place given that her husband seems to be a cheating arse.

I don't buy the sinus infection either. I think it is more likely that for her own sanity she desperately needs to escape her guilded cage but will have to leave her young children behind as they belong to the House of Grimaldi in Monaco.

What a dreadful position to be in, if that is correct.

Once the surprise wore off her husband liked it? Hmm, he strikes me more as the type who wants a conventional trophy wife silent at his side, or preferably just slightly behind.

Their 10th anniversary has passed now. It’s very hard not to be cynical about the marriage.

She’s a striking woman who almost always looks haunted behind the eyes.

I'd stake my money on the 10 years are up and they're negotiating her exit. And her staying in SA is her showing she's not going to be utterly compliant.

Apparently….she was told she’d get her passport back once she provided an heir. Which she did…..maybe she’s just been “returned”?
I doubt she’ll be back in Monaco any time soon, but you never know the truth, do you?

If that was genuine, then her kids would have relocated to be with her for the duration.

The dramatic half shaved head happened soon after it was announced there is another paternity case, she may have been really struggling and rebelling about that. The people of Monaco have never accepted her, they criticise her for all the cosmetic surgery she has had done, ironic when the head of the municipality is such a creep.

French media are now reporting she is suffering from paranoia, the rumours of divorce are likely true and Royal family need to quickly lay the blame on her rather than PA.

What woman in the real world would put up with her partner having unprotected sex with multiple partners resulting in pregnancies, whilst presumably having a sexual relationship with you, as you had to TTC to provide heirs? Yuk.
Apart from the humiliation of publicly acknowledged unfaithfulness, there is then the issue of STD's, as he's clearly not a fan of condoms. Then the strain of paternity suits. In the plural!
You'd tell him to get to fuck if it happened once, let alone these multiple times.
I've often thought footage and photographs of Charlene show a trapped, unhappy woman and reinforce my view that unless you both marry for love and even then you'd need to go into it with eyes fully open, the public part of royal life is just a gilded cage.
I feel quite sorry for her and hope she will find happiness. I believe the story before her wedding that she tried to bolt and was persuaded back. Hope for her sake whatever transaction was made to go through with the marriage is honoured.

Every woman involved with Boris Johnson it seems. Not that I’m suggesting Charlene is one of them

Funnily enough I had been drawing comparisons with Johnson. Both men who are deeply unattractive to me in every sense of the word.

Neither of them appear to acknowledge all of their children, or so it's said.

She doesn’t look well though, that wasn’t a healthy woman. I would totally believe he won’t let the kids leave the country. And to be honest I understand that, as a mother I wouldn’t either if my husband was a different nationality and tried to take them out the country. And I’m a nobody, and even as a nobody I could stop my husband taking the kids out the country,

I suspect she couldn’t stay there apart from him, so coming home is the answer, but no way she can bring her kids with her.

However that doesn’t change the fact she doesn’t look very well and as said, I thought she looked like she’d either been drinking or was on some form of pain medication.

I don’t think you can compare Carrie marrying Boris to the PA and Carlene situation. Carrie looked very happy on her wedding day like every other bride and I have no doubt she wanted to be Mrs Johnson. Imo Boris seemed the more surprised of the two

That’s generally true but there might just be a chance there’s a grain of truth in the story.

I worked (in aviation ) with a handful of people who have been struck down with sinus infections so severe and side effects so long lasting that it took them taken months to recover their medical flying status and in one case I know of it was so severe and that they never cleared by the docs to fly at altitude again….

Whether that is relevant here..who knows?

I agree that it appears to have been a Katie Holmes style marriage pact, whereby she agrees to stick it out for X number of years (so it seems legitimate) and provides an heir.

I remember all the rumours around the time of the wedding and felt so sad for her, she seemed to be trapped. He's a total creep. I hope she's able to move on and rebuild her life.

I would think that she may have had to sign some sort of agreement giving up custody of her children in the event of divorce, given that they are heirs to the throne. I remember reading that the Australian princess of Denmark had to sign something similar.

The whole thing is so weird - the guy has to marry and provide an heir, when he clearly isn't marriage material. So it's all a farce.
