Two little bits of news I read today. First the bells won't ring out at Westminster Abbey for Meghans birthday next month and she'll be devastated. No I don't think she'll even expect them to ring. And I had to smile at Bogart the dog was left behind in Canada because it didn't take to Harry. What else could she do. Hardly leave Harry behind. And it would have been a worry with a baby in the house too. She did the right thing here.

@Roussette

*I could also well believe that if for example drones were circling their neighbours’ houses trying to get pictures of them that H&M could believe they were the targets and start legal action"

Gosh. So now it's possible the drone was circling their neighbours and not them. Where are the photos of the neighbours and who are they? Because the one pic we know of is of Archie

Did you not read the words for example? Honestly, I know you like to antagonise, but you need to keep it realistic and stick to what is actually written down and not in your imagination.
SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2020 13:32

@CallmeAngelina

I agree with Roussette on that one - I think it's a bit of a stretch to suggest that the drone footage was meant to be of a neighbour, but they accidentally got Archie and Doria and sold/published that abroad!

I've seen the pictures concerned, and they're exactly the same sort of grainy blurred images that paps with long-distance lenses get.
Not acceptable.

Not at all what I said. If the entire comment had been highlighted, I even said I understood the picture had been taken and published.
BalloonSlayer · 25/07/2020 13:35

Another bit that struck me from the excerpt was Harry saying he didn't want the "movie star bit" of getting out of a car in front of hundreds of photographers before getting on with the job, he just wanted the focus to be on the job.

Which makes his spitting his dummy out over not being in the procession at the commonwealth service even more bizarre.

derxa · 25/07/2020 13:39

They're like birds in a gilded cage. What a way to live your life.
Drones are the work of the devil but to suggest that they could be shot down is a bit Shock How terrifying for everyone who lives nearby.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 13:39

Yes, but I suspect that occasion more than any other was one where the world's eyes would be upon them, scrutinising every aspect of every gesture and he felt (rightly or wrongly) that it was a huge snub.
Personally, I feel he would have brought that upon himself, but I think they were still technically still members of the RF at that stage, weren't they?

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/07/2020 13:40

Could we all agree that it was ( and is) wrong to try to pap Archie or indeed any young child ?
Moving on ...

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 13:42

Well, they're still "members" of the actual family, but you know what I mean.

MissEliza · 25/07/2020 13:45

@Oldbutstillgotit of course. I hate those intrusive pap shots into anyone's private space and try to avoid buying magazines which use them.

Yes, good idea. My final word on that subject is that William and Kate would also very likely have taken action in similar circumstances. Unfortunately for Harry & Meghan, they're beginning to get a bit of a name as serial litigists (sp? - is that even a word), which is muddying the waters for them.
ImAncient · 25/07/2020 13:47

Commentary in The Times isn’t very complimentary. I’ve not had a chance to read the excerpts yet & I'm not sure I will as I don’t think it will do my blood pressure much good.

Well will be most interesting if they do sue. Not just threaten, as that is often just bluster, but actually sue.

What a mess in two years.

Who disagreed? I haven’t seen anything disagreement about that on this thread.
SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2020 14:06

BBC article says H&M have issued a statement saying The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom.

WaterWishWash · 25/07/2020 14:08

Thanks for sharing the token. It’s terribly written and not as flattering as I anticipated it being. Nothing new either really.

I still think there is confusion over the Royal Family which is a JOB and the Royal family the family. I mean of course staff will deal with each other across the various Courts as they would between various depts in a business. They’ll organise calendars events communications. I’m sure the family talk about family things. So yeah I’d have expected Harry to communicate with Charles queen regarding his wish for new kind of life and they agree in principle but then the JOB sort needs sorted by staff. They basically as asked for a new job contract didn’t they?! They asked to redefine the role the did and demanded what they wanted in terms of job location salary basically. Fine people might do but expect pushback from the boss. The are delusional.

Also why does Harry even read the comments sections!?! bad enough he’s reading the articles in the first place but the comments? Why? Just live your life. Have a staff member read articles to consider the plan for pr or if anything needs legal letters etc but ffs stop reading yourself. The comments are general public and often the most outspoken. Who would bother reading?? Get a thicker skin. Your in the public eye people will also critique your every action.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 14:16

Re: the comments section. Well, I hope he doesn't read those in the DM, that's all I can say. It would be enough to tip even the most robust person over the edge.

Roussette · 25/07/2020 14:18

Did you not read the words for example? Honestly, I know you like to antagonise, but you need to keep it realistic and stick to what is actually written down and not in your imagination

Yes I did read the words 'for example'. Still think it's ridiculous to say it might have been a drone for the neighbours, and not them.
I take offence at you saying I deliberately try to antagonise. Wrong. Easy to say that to someone who just happens to have a different opinion to you.

And that's my final word on it.

My0My · 25/07/2020 14:21

But they read things to back up their supposed popularity. It’s a feeding frenzy. They have said 83% of hits for the RF were on them but that was around the wedding and post wedding when you would expect that. On that basis they wanted to spread the monarchy to a world wide audience. Everything said about them seems to have been monitored by them for future use - good or bad!

Anyone in the RF who calculates a monetary gain to the country as a result of their wedding is seriously out of step - on all fronts. As if The Queen ever looks at that. Frankly she’s above marketing and branding. She simply doesn’t need it because she’s not monetarising it. H snd M decided that’s what they wanted and that’s a business and that’s not what the RF does. So the choice was stay or leave. They left.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 14:21

Don't give up on the whole thread, Roussette. Whilst I don't support H&M in the way you do, I think you have played a very valuable role on these threads in redressing the balance and actually helping to stop them descend into the sort of toxic viciousness you see on the DM comments section for example.

My0My · 25/07/2020 14:23

I don’t think anyone seriously though shooting a drone was a realistic possibility! Just musing out loud - but the shooting lesson above was interesting!

My0My · 25/07/2020 14:24

I don’t think anyone has been vicious. Just incredulous! No one thinks Archie should have been photographed like this.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 14:25

Frankly she’s above marketing and branding. She simply doesn’t need it because she’s not monetarising it.

Exactly. For her, it's about service and duty and charity. She always looks immaculately turned out (and Angela Kelly, her dresser in recent years does a fabulous job. Those hats!!), yet one never sees criticism of her clothing budget. It's viewed as a necessity of the job she does.
She doesn't care about the glam aspects; she will turn up on a wet Wednesday to the WI in Wigan with the same attention and care as to a glittering gala at the Albert Hall.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 14:27

I don’t think anyone has been vicious. No, but the DM comments section is! I do think the MN mods step in here quite promptly though, and remove anything "not in the spirit."

SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2020 14:27

I wonder if he really does read them. I would have thought that either he’d stay away from them on the basis that he had learnt they caused him upset or else teach him he had misread the public mood and look to do a similar situation differently in future. Also, considering the vast number or articles and websites on him/his wife, that’s a lot of reading which is time that could be much better spent on charity work or something he enjoys.

That’s nice it’s your final word. I have everything tightly crossed you stick to that statement!
Roussette · 25/07/2020 14:32

Appreciate that, thank you Smile

I'm the yin to the yang hehe.

My0My · 25/07/2020 14:32

Are you two Kate and Meghan? Just calm down! It’s not worth that much angst.
