Two little bits of news I read today. First the bells won't ring out at Westminster Abbey for Meghans birthday next month and she'll be devastated. No I don't think she'll even expect them to ring. And I had to smile at Bogart the dog was left behind in Canada because it didn't take to Harry. What else could she do. Hardly leave Harry behind. And it would have been a worry with a baby in the house too. She did the right thing here.

The last comment had over 3,500 upvotes. Harry regretted opening the link. His stomach tied into the same knot every time he saw these sorts of comment. “It’s a sick part of the society we live in today, and no one is doing anything about it,” he continued. “Where’s the positivity? Why is everyone so miserable and angry?”

Although the writing style is funny - reminds me of Danielle Steel

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 25/07/2020 11:02

Has anyone got a Times token please?

OVienna · 25/07/2020 11:05

There looks to be literally nothing new here. This'll hit the shelves with a 50p price tag. Emily Maitlis this pair ain't.

wizzbangfizz · 25/07/2020 11:05

I think it is so sad the breakdown between William and harry - and it just seems so strange how fast it went from the royal family being the "family Megan never had" to total estrangement Shock

KatherineParr4 · 25/07/2020 11:07

I can imagine Charles reading this and thinking if Nicholas Witchell is an ‘awful man’, he’s got nothing on Omid Scobie.

This is exactly what I thought! It’s just SO badly written!

KatherineParr4 · 25/07/2020 11:08

The tone of sheer arrogance, petulance and spoilt grandiosity which comes across from these two takes my breath away.

Viviennemary · 25/07/2020 11:08

Less of the insults to Danielle Steele please. Grin I used to love her earlier books haven't read one for years. The Promise was her best. Brilliant if a bit far fetched.

Me too actually. Many years ago.

SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2020 11:12

Be interesting to see if H&M take legal action against the authors of Finding Freedom.

KatherineParr4 · 25/07/2020 11:14

What I really struggle to understand is why Harry can’t text his Dad or pick up the phone! Can’t he phone the Queen directly? Are we really to believe that he cannot speak to his own father without going through courtiers? If so it is beyond sad and very dysfunctional.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 11:28

“It should have been the one public moment where the royal family put their arms around the couple for a show of support,” a source close to Harry and Meghan said. “They purposefully chose not to put them in the procession and not to be welcoming. It was most unpleasant.”

Seriously???? They chuck the biggest bomb into the Royal Family since the Abdication Crisis in 1936 and expect a public show of fucking "support??"
Delusional!

KatherineParr4 · 25/07/2020 11:32

They seem to see everything from their own perspective. No empathy or self awareness whatsoever. No concept of how their actions impact on others. Not really the credentials of humanitarians.

OVienna · 25/07/2020 11:39

@Sunbathing right? I'd like to see them distance themselves from this book hard.

StartupRepair · 25/07/2020 11:39

Thanks for the token. It's all a bit slippery. Saying they had an engagement with Canadian High Commission. Didn't they just generate that themselves, rocking up to say thank you for the holiday? And of course there was tension at the Commonwealth service. They had hurt and insulted the Queen.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 25/07/2020 11:43

Thank you for the token!

If H&M are under any illusion or should that be delusion that this book will change the narrative for them I fear they are sadly mistaken.

If anything, it may make their case against AN more difficult.

At least the answer to who arranged the Canada house question has been resolved...

BalloonSlayer · 25/07/2020 11:45

I just read the extract in The Times today. Oh dear.

There was a whole paragraph about how more people had googled them than William and Kate during a particular period, so they were more popular. WTF?

If the claims that H&M had nothing to do with the book are true, then they ought to sue, because it really reads like they did, and it makes them look like petulant 12 year olds, which is extremely damaging. I wait with interest to see whether they do sue Scobie and Durand.

peachsquish · 25/07/2020 11:45

My impression after reading the article is that they feel the entire world should revolve around them.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 25/07/2020 11:55

I’m presuming they can only sue if it’s not actually true.

The extract paints Harry and Meghan in a really negative way and reinforces the view of how much they have hurt everyone else around them. It also plays into the narcissistic personalities that it has been claimed they have.

This is supposed to be written by a supporter of them????

I hope they really distance themselves from this book but sadly I suspect the damage is already done.

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/07/2020 11:56

Oh dear , I think this book is making things worse . I feel sorry for HM .

Oldbutstillgotit · 25/07/2020 11:58

I understood that some of H and M’s “ people” had been interviewed so am amazed this is essentially another critical book .

peachsquish · 25/07/2020 12:01

And also it proves imo (beyond reasonable doubt) that all the clashing posts on social media were done deliberately because they couldn't wait.
" it was difficult when they wanted to focus on a project and were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time — so they would just have to wait."
Sadly it comes across imo as very childish, rude and shows a lack of understanding of real life.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 12:06

Didn't they just generate that themselves, rocking up to say thank you for the holiday?
Did they chuff go to say 'thank you' for the holiday! They went to organise the details/visas for their next move.

CallmeAngelina · 25/07/2020 12:09

IF they have tacitly condoned the publication of this book, they they have made (another) serious tactical error. It's purporting to put their side of things across, but from what little I've seen it will do great damage to their "brand." (even that word annoys me - the Royal Family should never be about "branding.")

My0My · 25/07/2020 12:10

The basic problem they have encountered is being unable to work as part of a team. Team Royal Family. There is a pecking order and they have to fit in.

I though Harry and the military was his "thing". It seems since Meghan's arrival that this was insufficient for her plans. I think the Palace staff probably are a bit stuffy but Meghan shipped a few out that found her difficult. She seemed not to be able to wait or take a bit of time in assessing where they should focus in addition to the military . She seems to want the big global presence and does not appear remotely interested in GB charities and projects. Just world wide meaningless words and pleadings, not deeds. Harry is going along for the ride but he has paid a big price as he has little left in the UK.

I also believe that when the RF is dealing with "business`' they do go through official channels of communication. That is surely separate from private events and chat? Its work and avoids doubling up and confusion. Their various households must know what each of them are doing and divvy up workload and interests. It just makes sense doesn't it?
