No surprise there, then.

Do we think he'll hold out for the threatened subpoena or will the renewed public spotlight mean he jumps before he's pushed?

Is it because the Met failed to do its job the first time around

This, I would imagine

CathyorClaire · 12/08/2021 14:12

The French authorities were reported to be interested in interviewing Andrew as part of their probe into Epstein's activities which included the detention of Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel who also stands accused of raping Virginia Giuffre.

Doubt Andrew will be visiting France any time soon but I wonder if it might make visits to other European countries who presumably have persons of interest type agreements in common tricky?

"Even from a starting point of believing Ms Guiffre’s account (which I do) I will also accord Prince Andrew the respect of him genuinely believing that his actions are not criminal. Sleazy and poorly-judged, absolutely"

Does him having broken the law come down to whether or not he knew she was trafficked?

She says he did.

Roussette · 12/08/2021 14:32

I have no idea whatsoever why we have to show PA 'respect'. Why?

If there was a thread on here saying... 'I've got this friend, he's been in prison for a year for sex trafficking and procuring underage girls. He's now on a sex offenders register.
He's suggested a holiday with me staying in his mansion in NY, should I go or should I cut contact with him? I do want to go because he's rich and can help introducing me to people, but I'm torn'

Can you even begin to imagine the responses on here?
Yet PA toddles off to see him. And even after his first conviction, Epstein attends Beatrice's 18th birthday party at Windsor Castle. There are emails between them with PA asking questions about Guiffre in 2015. And more... see my link

Here's all you need to know.
He carried on with the friendship after Epstein was convicted.

He doesn't have my respect.

Gilmorehill · 12/08/2021 15:15

In the Newsnight interview, he said he’d gone to NYC to explain why they couldn’t be friends any more Hmm. It’s actually astonishing how many famous or powerful people continued to associate with JE when he came out of prison.

queenofarles · 12/08/2021 15:48

Where were her parents during all this time? She was still a minor, weren’t they at least concerned by the fact she is traveling with an older rich man? Confused

Rainbunny · 12/08/2021 15:55

I don’t get why they’d file it in New York when that’s not where the assaults allegedly happened.

She alleges that PA had sex with her on three occasions, once in London, once on Epstein's island and once in New York. She was under the age of 18 for each alleged, event making her a minor in the USA so it would have been at the very least, statutory rape.

Roussette · 12/08/2021 15:58

Good grief. Where are the parents of any trafficked girl? Are you so insulated from what happens in broken homes, that you really think like this?

She came from a troubled home, she was molested from the age of 7, she lived on the streets at the age of 13 and was abused by a sex trafficker aged 65. Her father was a caretaker at MarALago and got her a job at the Spa there. MarALago is near Epstein's Florida property. She was approached by Maxwell and groomed.

Is that enough for you in answer to 'where were her parents during all of this?'

queenofarles · 12/08/2021 16:25

Rousette what’s the matter with you?
I just asked a genuine question .
she was not missing, the parents knew who she was traveling with , were they not bothered ? Concerned ? She sent that picture to her family too see. Andrew did a horrible thing but so did the parents, she is a minor, broken home or not that’s no excuse! What about Social service ?

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2021 16:40

Her parents were most likely groomed as well.

Roussette · 12/08/2021 16:41

Nothing is the matter with me. I explained her family circumstances.

CallmeHendricks · 12/08/2021 17:01

I believe Virginia.
I also agree with Serenster, that PA may not have realised he was committing a crime and probably didn't see anything wrong with having sex with her, viewing her as staff and therefore worthless. That reflects pretty badly on him too, in my opinion, but I wonder if that's the only way the lawyers are going to be able to dig him out of this one.
Although, as many have said, he's finished in all respectable circles. I have no idea (nor do I much care) what he will do for the rest of his life now.

Roussette · 12/08/2021 17:10

I read today that he will not be able to leave the UK ever. (no idea if that is true, I hasten to add) For him, whose patronages included about 100 golf courses all round the world, that will vex him somewhat.

It's the fact that she was 17 though isn't it & he was mid 40s.

Even if he thought it was consenual on her part it's still repugnant.

So that necessitates the need to lie completely (imo) rather than admit it with a but...

CallmeHendricks · 12/08/2021 17:48

Forgive me if this has already been established, but do we know if he (says he) knew she was 17? And would he have assumed that's OK because it is in the UK?
I know that ignorance of the law is no defence over here. Not sure if that's the case in the USA.
I hope this doesn't sound as if I'm defending him. I'm just trying to establish what he might try to use.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/08/2021 17:49

Simple fact is that if he had nothing to hide he'd have no fear of cooperating.

He'd have had no need to do that ridiculous interview.

He'd have had no need to step away from royal service and hole up in Windsor Park.

I can't be sure what he did but he's sure hiding something.....

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2021 17:52

CallmeHendricks Virginia has stated he knew she was 17

Roussette · 12/08/2021 17:54

Well Hendricks if he answers any questions, it will indeed be interesting what on earth he will come up with.
But he will have at his disposal the very best lawyers in the land (paid for by the taxpayer or his Mother) so who knows.

He surely surely can't be that stupid to say he thought she was older and over the age of UK consent. He was in his 40s and she looked and was young.

I've said it before on PA threads. If it really was all innocent, he would've worked hard at clearing his name years ago so that he can go back to being all Royal (which is what he is desperate for)

OverByYer · 12/08/2021 18:00

Exactly if you were innocent you’d do everything possible to fight back and clear your name. If he had nothing to hide he’d co-operate with the FBI. He is so arrogant though. This will never go away.
CallmeHendricks · 12/08/2021 18:13

How come no one's going after the other big names as well (Clinton/Gates etc)? Is PA considered an easy target?

Plumtree391 · 12/08/2021 18:15

@CallmeHendricks

There have been no allegations that Clinton and Gates had sex with anyone at Epstein's gatherings.
Maireas · 12/08/2021 18:16

@Roussette

I read today that he will not be able to leave the UK ever. (no idea if that is true, I hasten to add) For him, whose patronages included about 100 golf courses all round the world, that will vex him somewhat.
Well, that's some good news, anyway.
Roussette · 12/08/2021 18:18

I think they are going after other names too. I read about Clinton and his journeys on Epstein's private plane. Of course, we don't get so much info as to what is being asked compared to PA

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/08/2021 18:28

In the Newsnight interview, he said he’d gone to NYC to explain why they couldn’t be friends any more

For all I know someone may have believed him (mummy perhaps?) but reportedly the visit was around the time Epstein bunged him more money to bail Sarah out ... which offers a rather different interpretation of what the visit was about

I didn't know the bit about Epstein attending Beatrice's Windsor party even after his conviction though, but can't say I'm surprised; after all if a pig like that's bankrolling you he's going to expect some goodies in return

CallmeHendricks · 12/08/2021 19:03

It also looked more than a bit shady that PA and JE went for a walk in Central Park to break up talk, well away from any potential bugging devices unless JE was wearing a wire.
