...and could really do with being hidden until HQ can deal.

I saw the tail end of that - I just wanted to say those of you who went with the emojis to fill the thread are brilliant - that was damn good work.

ArkATerre · 21/02/2016 09:00

No Jason, it doesn't make it ok. It's the reality of the Internet however.

What littledid just said. It was clear from the first two posts, though not the thread title, that it was intended to be "lighthearted". Not to degenerate into vitriolic unwarranted personal abuse as it did.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/02/2016 09:01

What is your point ark, that there are goady fuckers on the internet?

I love the lighthearted fight threads. They are usually full of affection and silliness. I can completely understand why socks asked for one. It sounds strange, but having a load of posters throwing daft insults at each other can really make you laugh. Obviously it did not go as intended but I can completely see why she started the thread.

gunting · 21/02/2016 09:02

It wasn't a fight though, it was an extremely personal and one sided attack.

The times I've come across havei, she has seemed totally unhinged and looking for trouble. Yesterday she was sympathising with the IRA. Truly bizarre stuff

AllThatGlistensIs · 21/02/2016 09:02

The OP is in a bad place at the moment. Her posts made it very clear that she wasn't literally asking for a fight for goodness sake.

Surely people can see that her thread was symptomatic of her state of mind at the time? That doesn't make incredibly personal attacks okay, just because you could argue you were going off the thread title.

TheTravellingLemon · 21/02/2016 09:03

ArkATerre I disagree. We all use thread titles that we hope will encourage people to click. It was not meant to be taken literally.

It was clear from her OP that she wasn't there for a fight, but just needed a bit of company.

She asked that poster to leave her alone a number of times. We all did. It's not fair to blame Socks.

I agree that the other poster was dealing with a number of issues of her own. Very upsetting read all round.

mud I expect socks imagined something along these lines:

Anyone fancy a fight?

Sure!

I'll join

To be fair to her, the thread was heading in that direction at first.

ArkATerre · 21/02/2016 09:04

Well, yes, Jason. There are goady fuckers on the Internet. And trolls and sock puppets and vulnerable people who really need to self regulate for their own good.
Mumsnet is no different than any other site, the moderation is woeful out of office hours.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/02/2016 09:05

Right... and how is that Socks fault?

I am not saying it is Socks' fault. I am saying it is the reality of the Internet.

flanjabelle · 21/02/2016 09:07

Exactly that lemon. It's a silly way of spending time talking to people without doing into the details of why you are upset. By joining in with the silliness, other posters are saying they are there to cheer the op up and get them out of a low/angry state of mind. It's nice and it's a lovely side of mn because there is never usually any nastiness about it. Poor socks, she did not deserve an ounce of what she got on the thread. It was cruel and uncalled for when she had just reached out for some silliness with other posters.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/02/2016 09:08

So really you are adding nothing.

Other advice, don't drop eletrical items into bathtubs.

ArkATerre · 21/02/2016 09:11

Oh I don't know, Jason.
It would seem that some people need Internet Largely Unregulated reminders.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/02/2016 09:11

Okay then, you are adding nothing while victim blaming.

ArkATerre · 21/02/2016 09:13
roundtable · 21/02/2016 09:13

I agree with Dontdrinkandfacebook.

The thread was awful and should have been pulled. They are both very vulnerable posters.

IHave is a self confessed alcoholic who is currently drinking. Awful on both sides.

I hope they both find peace and happiness.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/02/2016 09:14

And this here, is goading.

Dumdedumdedum · 21/02/2016 09:15

Speaking of Catchphrases, whatever happened to Roy Walker?

gooseberryroolz · 21/02/2016 09:15

I think Ark probably has a point to the extent that 'Anybody feel like a fight?' is worth adding to the list of thread titles that didn't work out as well as intended.

OP posts:
ArkATerre · 21/02/2016 09:16

As you wish, Jason. I find your attempts to read things into my posts that simply aren't there quite tedious so pardon me if I don't bother responding to it further.

londonrach · 21/02/2016 09:18

Please jason and ark i know its nothing to do with me but after reading that horrible original post and agreeing with everyone both posters were in bad places, please can we all share some nice none cadbury chocolate and enjoy sunday. I just hope oddsocks is ok.
