Fingers crossed that Finlay is just feeling a bit under the weather and bounces back to his normal self soon.x

JaceLancs · 31/05/2026 20:23

@Pudmyboy I bought 9 small ones and already had some - they will be recycled as Xmas stocking gifts
Thank you everyone - no real news on Finlay - vets rang a couple of hours ago to get permission to sedate him as they were struggling to get blood out of him
If it gets late they might decide to keep him in overnight for obs

KeziaOAP · 31/05/2026 21:22

JaceLancs everything crossed for speedy recovery for Finlay.

HumanToCatBeasties · 31/05/2026 22:24

Fingers and paws crossed that Finlay is OK.

CatsonPollock · 31/05/2026 23:20

Poor Finlay - good that he knew to come home. Hope the vet sorts it out quickly.

JaceLancs · 31/05/2026 23:37

vet hospital are keeping Finn overnight for obs as they couldn’t get any bloods even with sedative
Hopefully they can get urine sample - check his food and fluids - they will sedate him deeper to hopefully get blood tests tomorrow
On a side note - was really surprised how busy our vets was on a Sunday! They run a blood donation centre for dogs! Never occurred to me what I great idea ❤️

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/06/2026 13:05

Hoping for better news about the intrepid wanderer @JaceLancs

Thank you everyone! Vet has phoned 3 times today - first dose of stronger sedative made no difference so they needed consent to knock him out - still not peed or pooped
Rang again to say he was coming round and not a happy boy as they’ve had to leave catheter in and given him an enema
Got blood and urine sample plus done scan and X-rays
3rd call re results all clear re kidneys and bladder, however on the X-ray they’ve found he has broken the plate in his pelvis from his accident when he was 5 months old and are now wondering if it’s causing pain when crouching on a bad day and he then holds off doing so for as long as possible and then can’t pass anything
They are sending the X-rays to hospital where he had his surgery in the Lake District for a second opinion and to see if he needs more surgery - will hopefully know more tomorrow
I suggested they keep him well sedated as when this happened a year or more ago he ripped the catheter out and made himself worse

Poor Finlay xxx

Breadcat24 · 01/06/2026 17:58

@JaceLancs poor Finlay I hope he gets sorted what a lot he has been through for such a young cat. You must be frantic

Pixiedust1234 · 01/06/2026 18:28

Oh gosh, I would say a broken plate would definitely not be helping, especially in a very athletic kitty.

Fingers crossed he behaves himself at the vets and doesn't "gift" them a poo artwork 😬

HumanToCatBeasties · 01/06/2026 19:24

I'm sorry @JaceLancs how worrying for you. I hope that Finlay is back to his usual adventurous self asap.

JaceLancs · 01/06/2026 21:25

Thank you everyone - I’m really worried that if he needs another op we will be back to keeping him in a cage for weeks on end and all the physio etc - he hated it so much last time!

Oh @JaceLancs just saw your update, poor Finlay and poor you and your family!
He recovered so well from his accident, with your careful nursing and his hydrotherapy, such a shame it has come back to haunt him 💐

Allergictoironing · 02/06/2026 16:47

Ah well, vet visit for Tobias today and as I feared things are not good. He's lost another 400g since February - we knew he'd lost some more weight which is why we took him in, but that's much more than we hoped. So that's 700g since September - 9 months, and the rate of loss is increasing.

Vet says it's the thickened bowel walls with inflammation means he isn't getting the nutrition he needs from his food any more. A usual way of helping reduce that would be to put him on immuno inhibitors to reduce the inflammation, but what little he does have in the way of immunity will be fighting his FIV.

Another check up in 3 months, see how the weight is going, check whether he's still not in pain from gut palpation, just monitor for quality of life. So could be anything from 3 months to a year 😭

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/06/2026 16:49

I’m so sorry, @Allergictoironing xx

JoanOgden · 02/06/2026 17:29

I'm so sorry to hear that, Allergic. You have given Tobias such a lovely life after his rough start and it has been so rewarding to follow his progress as he has started to relax and appreciate human worship.

Hope young Finlay is doing OK - worrying news.

Pixiedust1234 · 02/06/2026 17:36

I am so sorry Allergictoironing, I was hoping no news was good news. Sending hugs your way as well as to JaceLancs

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/06/2026 17:55

Really sorry to hear your update @Allergictoironing. I'm know you'll continue to give him his best life.
Keeping fingers crossed of course for Finlay too.

RumNotRun · 02/06/2026 18:16

Oh no @AllergictoironingI am so sorry to hear that. Hugs to you and Tobias.x.x

Allergictoironing · 02/06/2026 18:41

The moment we got his FIV diagnosis I knew he was likely to go earlier than he may have, though I certainly didn't expect things to be this quick and because of his gut.

He had a new lady vet today as the other one has left, but she's another cat person through and through. He liked this one enough so he was happy with her stroking his head while we talked! He also now takes comfort from me stroking him at the vets. He is living his best life now - Girlcat to worship, plenty of food, warmth, dry, as many fusses as he wants, DSis coming round giving him chicken. Cats live for today.

HumanToCatBeasties · 02/06/2026 19:29

I'm sorry @Allergictoironing you've given a cat that would have struggled to find another home such a lovely home, I'm sorry that his time with you will be limited.

Breadcat24 · 02/06/2026 19:31

@Allergictoironing you have come so far with him. He has had more love and attention from you in the last few months. Still an awful bit of news
@JaceLancs wishing you the best

JaceLancs · 02/06/2026 20:51

Sorry to hear @Allergictoironing - it’s such a difficult situation ❤️

JaceLancs · 02/06/2026 20:56

More positive Finlay update - orthopaedic hospital not concerned about broken plate but say X-rays showed osteo arthritis in hip on one side (bearing in mind he’s not even 3 yet) may need some type of surgery in future but for now anti inflammatory meds and pain relief and see how things go
Our vet is going to try and take out the catheter tomorrow and once they are happy he can pee etc - he can come home on meds
No idea about rest or keeping him in as yet
I will let you all know when I hear more
