I’m just so excited I had to share that these two polydactyl beauties are coming home with us on Friday 😻

Oh come on @Dr13Hadley how could you suspect those innocent faces of any crimes. When Penelope had her feeding tube last week I was very thankful she didn’t have thumbs to pull it out. 🤣

Who is the long one? 😍

That is boy cat Milo. I like to call him Longshanks. He likes to lie at the top of the stairs and try to kill everyone by tripping them up! He’d make a good draught excluder……..

try to kill everyone by tripping them up !

And he'll make it look like a terrible accident Shock

As soon as they find the tin opener, you’ve had it.

Haha, that's funny

Dr13Hadley · 28/11/2025 20:51

Tonight boy cat managed to open my desk drawer where I’d unsuccessfully hidden the cat treats and got them out! Found him mauling the packet on the floor. They’re dangerous these thumbed cats 🙀

Dr13Hadley · 28/11/2025 20:53

Their thumbs look like mittens 😄🥰

They do! We’ve had them nearly 3 months now and I’m still in awe of their little gloved hands! Learning how sneaky they can be with them every day though !

They are absolutely gorgeous! So sleek and glossy ❤

I do wish we had a laughing reaction emoji though as some of these comments are hilarious ❤

Apologies for the long post, but this is a work of a 6 year-old comic genius - runner-up in the BBC 500 words competition... 🤣 So much to love in this...

Thumbed Cat by Michael M.

Scientist Dave lived alone in Surrey with his cat whom he loved, they're best friends.

They only had each other and his Cat Max loved being at home as much as Dave.

Dave only left home to go to work at science future technology factory from 9 to 5 each day, rest of the time Dave and Max were together eating, playing and hugging each other.

One day Daves boss give him a task to go Austria for 4 weeks to help build a teleporter. He asked if cat could come too, his boss said "No!". His boss added; "If you don't go to Austria, you're fired!"

Dave didn't know anyone to catsit Max and Max wouldn't get in a cat carrier to go to cat hotel for 4 weeks Dave would be away, so Dave came up with an idea so Max could stay home alone for 4 weeks and take care of himself for going to toilet, washing and feeding himself.

Night before Dave flew to Austria he gave Max general anaesthetic and got in his home lab and made two metal thumbs to replace two of Max's Paw digits on his front legs.

When Max woke up from his medicine, he was a thumbed cat.

Dave says; "You can take care of yourself now Max, see you soon, don't get into any trouble".

Dave flies to Austria, leaving Max to it. Max the cat then tries out his thumbs.
First he uses them to open cans of food, he even uses a spoon to eat with.
Then Max lets himself in and out the house to poop on the lawn, he even decides to bag up poop and bin it.

Max then decides to ditch the plastic mouse on a string toy and decides to play playstation and use the remote control for TV.

Max decides he wants to wear clothes from watching TV people clothed. He spots people on TV pay with contactless by card. He finds Daves' credit card.
No clothes in his size at home, he gets Daves' car keys but in car feet can't touch pedals so he gets a bus and does 'tap and go', then he goes to baby shop and buys clothes.

He pays by contactless; he does same on the bus trip home.

At home he's fully clothed, looks around he doesn't like the walls and shakes his head at the furniture so he goes on computer pays by card for new wallpaper, new bed cover and new furniture from website.

Weeks later Dave's home, looks around and cat images are on the bed, the sofa, the walls and Max is clothed drinking a mug of tea.

Then the bank bill comes through the post. It's £5,000 in debt.
Dave turns to Max; "I'm changing you back".
Dave chases Max. Max makes it difficult. Dave; "I created a monster".
Max then writes on a piece of paper - I'm keeping the thumbs.

Dave falls to the ground crying in despair.

They’re gorgeous - I used to have a beautiful marmalade cat with extra toes. He was extremely sociable but also exceptionally clumsy - he used to do that bum wiggly thing in front of a chair when they’re sizing up a jump and then sail right over the top of the chair and land in a confused heap on the other side! I was living in Bristol at the time and according to our vet it was a bit of a hotspot for polydactyl cats.

Dr13Hadley · 06/12/2025 12:32

Some more thumbs/mittens to cheer everyone up on this miserable rainy Saturday! Debating whether to bother putting the Christmas tree up or whether that’s just asking for more thumb related trouble 🫣

Yes put it up and then post pictures of the thumb related carnage!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/12/2025 14:11

Welll you survived Hallowe'en with the Mittened Mini Panthers so you could go for the tree !

I tried two years with a tree ( the Panthers came to us at 1yo. They are now 7yo . We learned that trees were a bad idea if we were fond of the tellly )

Dr13Hadley · 03/03/2026 09:38

Just thought I’d throw a few new pics out of my thumbed terrors. They turned one last month and are still as full of mischief and utterly bonkers as ever! They do literally use their thumbs to hold things. It’s hilarious (and slightly worrying).

I think you made the right choice .
Look at the wild eyed glare on the cat chewing the laptop. And what amazing teeth Grin
