According to my sources (my dad), Ernest Hemingway's estate is full of cats with extra toes. He was allegedly (according to my dad, who read an information board and listened to a tour guide) very taken with cats with extra toes.

Dad saw some and said they looked like they were wearing many fingered gloves.

As someone mentioned they can get claws that dig into their pads so it is helpful to get them used to touching their feet so you can check them and clip them if needed.

Just thought I’d pop back on and update you all on the thumbed ones. They really are mischievous and boy cat has almost learned how to open the door to the kitchen (which we keep shut at night because he broke the butter dish trying to get to the butter)

My NonThumbed Panthers have a tall Cat Tower in grey plush too !

I had a beautiful fruit bowl that survived over fifteen years , went through the dishwasher , two DC and a house extension,
Female Panther decided to check if gravity was really a myth and lobbed it onto the floor . (Then lobbed its replacement onto the floor and nearly fell on the glass . Only me lungeing across and grabbing her saved her . I still have the scars . And a metal wire fruitbowl)

I had a lovely polydactyl cat many years ago. I brought him home from London on the train. He slept on my lap and everyone came to look at his big feet. He was great in the snow.
