Owner died cat alone

Horrible situation.. a lady died unexpectedly in her flat and her poor cat had been with her for three days without food when it was found. I’ve phoned all the rescues and they’re full with waiting lists. We’ve spoken to the owner’s family who don’t want it. The police have taken it to the vet who can only have it short term. I have two cats who are territorial and would make its life a misery.

does anyone know what happens in these situations? It’s such a cuddle bug.

Oh no, I so hope they can take both. If you hear more about the tabby and they can't let me know on private messaging. I'm not too far from you and although I already have an indoor boy and I'm not sure how he'd react, I'd give it a go. He has lived with another cat before. I can't stand the idea of an older friendly cat out on the street. Even if he just needs fostering until a shelter can take him or home can be found.

My sister adopted a clingy, loving 14 year old 3 legged cat who was taken to the SPCA by the kids when its elderly owner died. So bloody selfish, didn't even try to rehome her first. She was so sad and confused in a cage, my sister who volunteers there cracked . She only lasted another 16 months but they were happy, well fed ones.

That is so kind of you. I’m trying to sort out this one first, then will try with the tabby who is a more timid cat. I assume the flat will be sold/rented out and at one stage he won’t be able to get in anymore.

Thanks for trying to help them @ParsnipPuree. Let me know if you need any help.

eurochick · 15/05/2025 23:04

How frustrating that you have found a home and the cat can’t got to it! Hopefully the family will release it very soon. And I also hope the other cat is helped to a lovely home. X

It’s taken me ages to click into this thread as I kept seeing it on active but I literally can’t sleep at these types of posts. I have no advice but I just want to say what a truly wonderful person you are op, and your DD. If the world had more of you, it would be a much better place. Thank you for looking out for this poor cat!❤️

Pudmyboy · 16/05/2025 00:19

Thank you @ParsnipPuree for caring for these lovely boys, I really hope the nok give permission quickly: maybe if they are told they will have to pay vets fees for euthanasia they may sign the cat away: heartless sods!
So lovely to hear all the kind suggestions and a special mention of course to @thecatneuterer and @TemporaryCatSlave for actively trying to find a solution: everything crossed for a lovely outcome for these poor pussycats. ❤️

thecatneuterer · 14/05/2025 20:34

I've got a possible solution. I'm going to pm you, but I can't figure out how to do that on the app

You may have worked everything out by now, but, I think you can PM by clicking on the little 'person' icon and selecting pm from there.

Lovely update!!! The boy and his mother want to take it. They have a garden flat round the corner from his original home. I know he’ll be search for his owner who died, but at least he’ll be looked after and loved. Really happy ending.

Thankyou for not giving up on the kitty. 😻

Pudmyboy · 19/05/2025 11:16

Any updates @ParsnipPuree ?🤞🤞🤞🤞

Yes! The two sons came forward and have given permission for the boy and his mother to adopt it but stipulated he does not want the two cats separated.. they are hopefully moving to their new home in the next few days, although I have no idea how they are going to trap the ginger brother and keep him in his new home. They are shutting off the catflap of their old home.

Pudmyboy · 19/05/2025 15:52

Oh great news @ParsnipPuree ! Now to trap the ginger one......can a local cat rescue help with that part, with their skills and the loan of the appropriate trap?

Meanwhile the black cat is riddled with fleas so we are taking him to our vet to get him flead and wormed before he goes to his new home as the deceased lady’s sons won’t pay for anything.

Oh wow @ParsnipPuree .

You’ve done your best for these 2 cats. What horrible individuals the deceased sons are.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if the dear old lady left the house to her cats. 😂

Hoping that they live a very happy life in their new home.

@ParsnipPuree Don’t want to hijack your thread but I took a cat in on Friday night. Got her scanned Saturday, returned to owner yesterday. Owner phoned me today and asked if I’d like her back. I said yes😍 She’s 16.

I will now have 3 cats.

You are amazing for looking out for them and hoping it won’t be too long before you catch the brother. 🙏😍👌🏻

CatChant · 19/05/2025 18:05

@ParsnipPuree It is wonderful that these two boys will have a home and it is all thanks to the kindness and hard work from you and your DD.

As for the lady’s sons, well I hope the money they are so desperately clinging to slips straight through their fingers.

Well done to you too @Cally62 Not many would take on a 16-year-old cat.

How could anyone be so heartless to do this to a 16yo cat. Probably trying to avoid imminent vet bills. I do worry that in this case they boy’s mum won’t be able to afford x 2 vet bills.. I’m going to buy them litter, food etc to start them off because I’m so grateful to them.

The sons say they are allergic to cats.. probably just as well for the cats!

I only wish there were more people like @ParsnipPuree and her daughter in this world and fewer like those vile sons.
Thanks for updating @ParsnipPuree and for all your efforts and kindness. Let's hope for a wonderful outcome for the kitty cats.

Certainly allergic to putting their hands in their pockets.

Unlike you @ParsnipPuree , you are a heroine.

I’m definitely no heroine just a big standard crazy cat lady xx
