WTAF? He lives next door, on very good terms with neighbours but he seems confused about where home is! I don't feed him but diner him as he was cold. Now fast asleep. I'm a dog person is this a cat thing?

My parents have a cat vacuum - the magic number is three. If at ANY time there are less than three cats using their property then the universe collapses. Many were strays, most were rescues from friends/family, but they never went out and got their own cat ever. The last time they moved was after two of their three had recently died - and they both said there was no way they would look after any more as they are in their seventies. The final cat - still living cat - used to belong to my best friend before he emigrated…

They had been in their new home for six months before they got COVID and I went to stay with them to look after them. On day two this poor little feral skeleton was trying to eat the bread I had put out in the back garden for the birds, so I took a bowl of crunchies down to the bottom of the garden as I felt so bad for the little fella… fast forward 18 months… feral cat (Grayson) pretty much lives in their enclosed verandah and has started bringing a friend around… three is the magic number! Current cat is fine provided he has domain over the house, the other two are happy in the enclosed space and have recently started singing for their breakfast, so confident they feel now. You have been chosen… and it is no longer your bed. Cat may only choose to visit you sporadically as he has a home, but your card is definitely marked..!

Oh gos now I have a horse a dog and a cat!

Quite possibly, but I hope you didn't gain the horse by finding it laying on your bed!

RetroTotty · 18/12/2024 19:13

Oh, well, that was just rude of you, Esgaroth. No prior consultation with Visitor Cat I take it?

Very rude indeed. But it's kind of her fault we got a cat. She was so nice we thought we'd like one of our very own!

She didn't see it that way, though.

Many years ago our upstairs neighbours asked me how to lock the cat flap on their door so no more cats could get in after they came home one day and all the neighbourhood cats were in their flat having a party!

We got our latest pair in January after my poor old girl was very suddenly taken ill on Christmas Day last year. The neighbours cat is very friendly to us but hates our cats being in 'their' garden and many catfights have ensued. I wish my two would stand up to him but they don't.

Please may we see a photo of the kitten stealing cat? And any other gratuitous cat photos are much appreciated!

This is Rocky, real name Maxi. He visits my father daily for his second breakfast or snacks and likes to make sure that my father cleans the rabbit hutch thoroughly.
My father knows the owner and according to her, Rocky/Maxi visits various people.

I love that so much! And is that why they are called Breadcat?! Ah you have made my heart happy tonight! Kindred souls!

qazxc · 19/12/2024 21:02

My aunt and uncle adopted a stray that kept coming in through the cat flap. A year later he came home wearing a collar. It turns out he didn't like being on his own ( and was greedy little sod) and had 3 "owners" on the estate. If it wasn't for that pesky collar, he probably never had been rumbled ( this was pre micro chip days)

u3ername · 19/12/2024 21:09

This looks cute but made me think...
I've just watched a video of a cat on Instagram with a tiny camera on it, going outside, doing its hunting etc. and was thinking this cat can actually capture other peoples' private moments and broadcast them on SM... Like imagine this one having a camera on its collar!

Doggielove · 19/12/2024 21:20

Ah he's making other arrangements for himself!

when my friend got a puppy, the day before it arrived their cat did a big shit in middle of their bed and moved next door 😂

Breadcat24 · 20/12/2024 12:22

@Arlanymor Yes that is why she is called Breadcat. Though is now a bit more JohnWestNoDrainTunaCat now!

Cat chose owns. They like ones who don’t like cats. I think it’s so you don’t bother them too much.

I think this is true, I can't say I'm a cat lover , used to be a little afraid of them but I have overcome this, had no choice really as when I go anywhere there's a cat it always makes a beeline for my knee and makes itself very comfy.

Yes it is a cat thing, my cat often comes in smelling of woodburner with lipstick marks on her head.

That is absolutely adorable. All the kitty cat love 🥰

MistyWitch · 20/12/2024 14:18

This is how my mum got her cat, he chose her after his owners (my mum's neighbours) got a puppy. She didn't feed or encourage him but after 6 months of him just always being there, a discussion was had with the neighbours and he moved in properly and became her cat.

WhatMe123 · 18/12/2024 17:06

I knew someone who paid a fortune for some pedigree type cat and it decided it wanted to live across the street instead of with her. She gave up dragging it back over and in the end and she used to see it looking out of the window from the house across the road 😂😂😂😂😂 cats choose who to live with im afraid 😂😂

Maybe you know the original owners of my mum's cat 😂 he was a fancy ragdoll that cost a very pretty penny.

forgivingfiggy · 20/12/2024 15:21

We have a visiting cat. She is lovely, and she comes in, has a look around and snuggles with my kids. We have two large black labs who just ignore her. Then she leaves. She has started bringing us dead mice though. Which is less cute.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 20/12/2024 18:30

But very thoughtful. Mice are fast as fuck.

Well obviously she’s paying you rent! You should be eternally grateful that she has deigned to provide you with such exquisite gifts 😜

Edingril · 22/12/2024 09:34

So you bought your neighbours cat a bed?, no other answer is good enough

Danikm151 · 22/12/2024 09:36

Where I used to live - new neighbours got a surprise when they moved in.
my cat on top of their wardrobe- she was just curious 😂

Stormyweatheroutthere · 22/12/2024 09:42

I saw a LOST CAT poster in our local shop years ago. . It was a picture of MY 3 legged boy.....
He had another address it seemed. Never did get him back..
Traitor.. His leg amputation cost me a fortune!!

WonderingWanda · 22/12/2024 09:46

My cat regularly goes next door for a snooze. They don't feed him and he got banned for a while for giving them live mice. He is still very much our cat but does get lonely when we are at work so I am happy he has friends.

Soubriquet · 22/12/2024 09:52

When we lived at a different house, we used to have a notmycat called Colin visit everyday when his owner was at work

If we were out, we would come home to a little black and white face looking at us as if to say “where the hell have you been?!”

Luckily Tootsie allowed this interloper and actually played with him which was a shock cos she hates other cats.

He would bugger off after 6 when his owner got home.

Then we moved away and we haven’t seen him since.

You have a new cat OP
