WTAF? He lives next door, on very good terms with neighbours but he seems confused about where home is! I don't feed him but diner him as he was cold. Now fast asleep. I'm a dog person is this a cat thing?

That cat is not confused.

We thought we had a cat sleeping under our house/glazed balcony for a while. We could often hear it snoring. Then one day DH crawled to have a look, and it was a sleeping hedgehog.

wohmum · 18/12/2024 16:47

We have one local to us that would do this given 1/2 a chance! We’re friends with his owner and try to keep him out but he’s very persistent!
when we were away our older daughter let him in to her bedroom to snuggle down … and now he is DESPERATE to come back in and go upstairs !

Motnight · 18/12/2024 16:57

As others have said, the cat has no sense of confusion at all, Op 🤣

Manypaws · 18/12/2024 16:58

This is the one that moved himself in

I think YOU are confused, OP. You say you're a dog person, eh?

CaveMum · 18/12/2024 17:02

You have been chosen. Pay your respects to your new master by bringing offerings of food!

WhatMe123 · 18/12/2024 17:06

I knew someone who paid a fortune for some pedigree type cat and it decided it wanted to live across the street instead of with her. She gave up dragging it back over and in the end and she used to see it looking out of the window from the house across the road 😂😂😂😂😂 cats choose who to live with im afraid 😂😂

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 18/12/2024 17:06

I live in a cul de sac of 15 homes where there is a cat who has loving home, but he goes from house to house as he sees fit. He answered to several different names until we got wise to his game and his owner confirmed his true identity. He seems fearless and not deterred by other cat or dog residents and clearly likes the variety of different lounge and bedroom facilities we can all offer.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 18/12/2024 17:09

Just don't feed him...they are like men and children...

worrisomeasset · 18/12/2024 17:10

You’re doing the right thing by not feeding him. However, if he really dislikes the two new arrivals, you’re going to see more and more of him. It happened to us, some near neighbours decided their perfectly happy solo cat needed a friend and acquired a second cat. Previously solo cat detested the new arrival and started hanging about in our house, we made a point of not feeding her and she went back home at feeding times. Eventually, the original owners asked if we wanted to keep her, so we did.

Years ago, our neighbours took an extended trip abroad to visit family. We looked after their rabbit and cat.
We had a cat of our own, so our house had a cat flap. The neighbours' cat soon was joining us for company. One morning I awoke lying flat, with my head on the mattress.
The neighbours' cat was curled up fast asleep on my pillow!

hby9628 · 18/12/2024 17:15

Love this. Congrats on the new family member. A very contented looking kitty you've got there.

We have a cat from the other side of our housing estate that continually comes into our house. Then he started to bring a friend from up the street. This afternoon I came back from shopping - the cat, his friend, and another random they had picked up on the way all walked into my house. The random was in the kitchen by the time I was in with the bags.

We had something similar, with two cats who we think really were both confused after they moved to the estate - it turned out they lived together in an identical house down the road.

This sounds like my aunt. I asked her recently how her cats were and she said they were good but costing her a lot of money in food, so I enquired why as I had two cats too and they weren't that expensive. Turns out she now has 8!

She had two already, then a pregnant stray wandered in, had her kittens (which were all (but one) rehomed), so that took her to 4, then another 4 local strays were gradually gathered over the next few months.

I reckon the mum cat that had the kittens went back out telling all her mates "follow me - I've found a right sucker that'll take us in"! 😂

@boulevardofbrokendreamss my friend used to have two cats and when her kids were little (and noisy) one of them took herself off to the next door neighbour's house each day and returned once the kids were in bed! Next door neighbour was a little old lady that loved cats, so she loved it. She got daytime cuddles with a cat and didn't have to pay for the food or vet bills!

DazedAndConfused321 · 18/12/2024 17:30

This is probably part of the worldwide Cat Distribution System. It's very underground, no one truly knows how it works but eventually all deserving people get given a cat. This one's yours I guess!

ThatEllie · 18/12/2024 17:33

Congrats on your shared custody! 🎉

Tortielady · 18/12/2024 17:34

A couple of days after we lost one of our old lady cats, I was leaving the house and a big, beautiful tabby scooted down the street towards me, stopping at our door and turning on the charm, as if to say "ello Missus! Heard you had a vacancy. Fancy giving a hungry bloke his second breakfast?" Needless to say, I didn't. Not only was he no stray - he was in immaculate condition - our remaining old lady cat would have hit the roof and her outraged wails would have filled the street! But he was lovely and he really cheered me up when I needed it. Cats aren't the aloof beings people sometimes think they are, but they are much more engaged by their next eating opportunity than by loyalty 😁

onehundredpaws · 18/12/2024 17:38

My cat once came home with a week old or so kitten that she must have stolen somewhere. We know it wasn’t hers. But she was very, very proud. I still wonder where it came from.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2024 17:41

My teenage hood cat was a Magee for all the neighbourhood cats. They were always in an out of our house!

I have a cat and so does my next door neighbour.

Her cat started coming into my house as soon as I moved in and visits everyday. He helps himself to whatever food my cat has left and has a little walk around the house.

I even found him under my bed on a few occasions.

He also spends a lot of time in my garden and drinks in my pond.

Thankfully both cats get on well and often play together.

Ellie56 · 18/12/2024 17:53

Yup he's moved in and now owns the house. There is a reason homeowner has meow in it.

You need a bird, a spider and a fly for the full set.

My not my cat has been visiting since 2019
