New thread for the inmates of Toddler Towers. Strange to think, it's about two completely different cats, from the original
Thread. But Magic, Maia and Cheddar will never be forgotten.

Well OBVIOUSLY the vet loved her. How could she not?

Well done for your forethought on the insurance!

Pixiedust1234 · 07/11/2024 21:39

Ouch, poor Penelope! At least it is fixable.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/11/2024 21:44

@Anniegetyourgun we are currently up to £26k in vet's bills. Magic, Maia and Penelope being the main culprits. The vet asked if Penelope had any health issues. I said she was nothing but trouble.

Trouble and beauty. 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 08/11/2024 11:23

Dotty, the washing machine is not a good place to sit in.

I have no doubt these two will settle into a good rhythm in time, they seem very evenly matched in size, energy, sweetness, needs, etc but pain or illness in one can cause primal animal instincts of dominance/hunting to kick in. I think it's something us humans don't like to think about too much where our pets are concerned.

Excellent news on the nose rubbing Grin

I really hope so. Penelope is quite nervous again. I've put a bell on Dotty so she can hear her coming. Not sure if it's helping or not! Dotty completely leaves her alone, other than if Penelope wants to walk past her. That's when she will chase her. They seem to have very similar personalities!

I'm a bit worried about Pens post op recovery, but I think if I keep her in my room
She'll be ok with that.shes to small for cones and collars. And the bee collar did not go well either. Apparently she couldn't walk in it. 🤣

Penelope was sitting on the back of the sofa looking absolutely disgusted with such behaviour. 🤣

An intrepid explorer. She’s eyeing the top of the shelves there.

Finally using the teepe!

Things were going well until last week, Dotty was jumping on Pen, but it wasn't bothering her. But it clearly is now. Although not at the same stage we were with Pads, I can see it going the same way as she's nervous. She's just gone for her again. Pen did nothing wrong.
I don't understand why Penelope is such a target. She doesn't wind them up, Dotty gets the idea when she's cross. But it doesn't seem to make a difference. I know what most people on here think about me getting her in the first place. All the early signs were positive, and I really thought this would work. But Pen needs to come first. I think she's destined to be an only cat. And that is fine.

Oh dear, what a shame.

Soubriquet · 11/11/2024 22:47

Oh no. Least you tried

Pixiedust1234 · 11/11/2024 22:53

Cats are both prey and predators and I'm guessing Pen is showing signs she is vulnerable and therefore a prey animal and Dottie's instincts as predator are kicking in. Neither is at fault.

Only because I've watched the cat whisperer videos I think you need to build Pens confidence right up, providing her health/pain is getting better. I "think" he played a lot, brought them out into the centre of the room so they owned it and created routes for escape. Is there a particular area Dottie pounces? If yes then rearrange the furniture for a while. I highly recommend watching Jackson Galaxy for tips. Perhaps someone needs two bells as well

Toddlerteaplease · 11/11/2024 23:01

No, it's if she walks past her, this evening Pen was trying to escape her eye drops and she went for her. I wonder if they see her as a kitten because she's so little. I've been trying to contact the rescue for a week. But they are aren't answering the phone or have even read the messages. I'm glad I tried. I've taught her how to live in a house, and at least it will stop me looking for another cat. Because I'm not going to try again. I don't think Pads gender had anything to do with it now. It's how other cats perceive her. She's a lovely girl as well.

I took the bell of Dotty's collar as it was completely freaking Pen out. I thought it would help but it didn't.

OP posts:
learieonthewildmoor · 12/11/2024 02:58

Ah, that’s a shame. I think Paddington being male was definitely a problem for Pen. At least you know Dotty will be resilient in a new home.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2024 04:59

I'm really annoyed with the texted. I've been asking for advice for a week, and absolutely no response. This is what happened with Pads.

They don’t really sound like a good reputable rescue..

Floralnomad · 12/11/2024 10:56

The rescue sound rubbish . It’s such a shame because Dotty has obviously flourished with you .

Do you think it could be anything to do with Pen's eye? Dottie perhaps thinking she's weaker?

Oh and BTW, it's not 'most people', just a couple. Those of us that know you will only do what's right for your cats 💐
