New thread for the inmates of Toddler Towers. Strange to think, it's about two completely different cats, from the original
Thread. But Magic, Maia and Cheddar will never be forgotten.

Hmm that's what Penelope did with Cheddar.

Hmm, so these oh-so-clever posters have never made a mistake in their lives? I can recall the threads around whether Pads would be a good fit for Penelope, Toddle agonised about it a long time despite the rescue trying to push him on her quickly.

This isn't the first time Toddler has brought a new cat into the house, first Cheddar then Pen both fitted nicely in with her existing cat.

Went over all the arguments around Pads both in her head and on here - and I don't recall anybody saying it was a disastrous decision at the time! If it was so obvious to you, something should have been said at the time. But hindsight is a marvellous thing isn't it?

learieonthewildmoor · 26/10/2024 11:50

I love that Dotty makes Penelope look big.

I would have said something if I'd read she was getting a boy when she had a girl that only liked girls.

From what I remember, the cat she was hoping to get fell through and then Paddington was arranged very quickly and was described as a 'boyfriend' for Pen. That now seems strange when we were told later that OP knew Pen only liked girls and apparently the rescue even described her as a lesbian. I don't remember any mention of Pen only liking girls when OP was considering Paddington but remember her saying she thought Pen would be fine as she had lived with other cats, not much agonising over the decision. It was a bad decision because she wanted another cat and anyone arguing that it was a good decision isn't being sensible. It is not about being 'oh so clever', it's just obvious that you don't get a boy when you know your cat only likes girls.

Fast forward to this situation, me and a few posters did say that Pen seemed happy as an only cat and at least needed some time after all the stress from Paddington. The OP was in agreement and said she'd be waiting. Then a few days later OP has a new cat.

I therefore don't think that even if OP had told us that Pen only liked girls, that she would have taken any notice of anyone saying it wasn't a good decision to get a boy. When she wants a new cat, she gets one regardless.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2024 17:38

Yes, I was told she, was a lesbian, but I thought that was a bit of a joke. And nothing was said about her not liking boys at all. Hence why I thought a soppy neutered boy wouldn't be much different. I was obviously wrong in that. However I do think, if he'd left her alone and not wanted to play with her. It may have worked out.
Dotty is a very different cat. She completely leaves Penelope alone, and she is completely her usual self. Demanding food, treats and to be let out.
Anyway, can we move past this now? I think you've all said your piece.

I think part of the problem with Pads was that, lovely though he was, he was completely cheerfully oblivious to the fact that Pen didn't like him.

You did your best to make it work, but Dotty seems like a much better fit.

Pudmyboy · 26/10/2024 18:26

Looking forward to pics of them snuggled together/swamping Toddler/both watching her with fascinated expressions.....hint hint....

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2024 18:29

@Ellmau absolutely he just didn't have a clue. On the rare occasions that Penelope does growl at Dots, she understands. But Dotty doesn't attempt to get close, other than to sniff noses.
I was holding out for the cat I was previously matched with before Pads. But it turns out that she is a bit of a bully to other cats. And Dotty sounded a much better match. But enough of that.

I'm currently trying to do some uni work, Penelope is being very helpful and climbing all over me.

That's what you need when you're trying to work: moral support! Pen always happy to oblige.

Soubriquet · 26/10/2024 20:18

Oh she looks so happy

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2024 21:10

She's currently sitting on my shoulder. I am very uncomfortable! She is oblivious. Dotty is fast asleep at the other end of the sofa.

OP posts:
Pixiedust1234 · 26/10/2024 22:36

I think that proves that Dotty is already a better fit. Can you even remember when Pen last crawled all over you on the sofa? I am ridiculously pleased this is happening (and I suspect you are too) 💕

Toddlerteaplease · 26/10/2024 22:42

@Pixiedust1234 I'd forgotten that she did it before Paddington arrived. She's done it a few times since he's gone. But she's been doing every night this week. And sitting next to me on her cushion.

It's a habit she learned from Cheddar, she always did it. I was trying to FaceTime my friend, and all he could see was her. 😻

It seems that everything has worked out for everyone, happy kitties where they are meant to be 🙂

It is absolutely lovely seeing animals with kind and caring people, and if anyone fits that description it's Toddler.

I love reading about Penelope and can't wait to see more of Dotty, they are two seriously cute girls 😍

Sandwichgen · 27/10/2024 10:12

It’s looking very promising, isn’t it?

And let’s hope it will be years and years and years before Toddler needs to grapple with the cat distribution system again

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2024 10:26

@Sandwichgen I do hope so. Loosing two in the space of six months was a bit much.

Especially as Cheddar was such a shock.

Cailleach1 · 27/10/2024 10:36

Fingers and toes crossed. I’m laughing at the expressions of the two on the bed. Dotty (formerly of shed and cage) with wide eyed incredulity. Soft furnishings, and freedom of movement in warm house with company. ‘Ooh, ooh my. Big bed. Company’. Whereas Miss Penelope has a self-satisfied expression that proclaims ‘I’m the boss now’.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/10/2024 10:47

My sister has been at it again!

It was quite sad, the first time Dotty saw stairs and a sofa. She obviously had no idea what to do with them. Same with the bath. Penelope had a similar background but I think she was allowed to sleep
On the bed.

How rude!!! Princess Pen deserves a crown

Floralnomad · 27/10/2024 12:26

I think they look cute with horns
