New thread for the inmates of Toddler Towers. Strange to think, it's about two completely different cats, from the original
Thread. But Magic, Maia and Cheddar will never be forgotten.

Oh what a heart aching saga, I think possibly the only consolation is that you know you are doing the right thing for both cats, Pen can relax and Pad gets to play (hopefully!). Needless to say work will be busy, whether that is a good or bad thing I don't know, but I do hope everything goes well for all parties tomorrow, cat and human 💐

Toddlerteaplease · 29/09/2024 21:35

He's at my friends house tonight. She transported him and that's where I met him originally. She's going to have him on her bed. He'll go to his new home tomorrow. I would have liked to do it tomorrow. But I'm working all day. Poor thing was shaking a bit when I gave him his last cuddle.

Soubriquet · 29/09/2024 21:48

Oh I bet he was. How’s Pen doing though?

Toddlerteaplease · 29/09/2024 21:58

She's not realised yet. I did show him to her, in his box. But it's only been 2 hours. I've moved her food onto the landing in preparation for going back downstairs.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 29/09/2024 22:14

Well let’s hope she perks up x

Toddlerteaplease · 29/09/2024 22:18

She's just come into my room, of her own accord. And jumped on my knee. She's purring her head off and pouncing on me. She's not done that in months.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 06:02

She's been moving around and purring her head off, all night. And back to grazing on food.

I really hope that Pen being back to her old self is some consolation for you, it shows that you have made the tough ( but right ) decision and both cats will be happier because of your selflessness.

Doing the right thing is sometimes as hard as it is necessary 😭

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 07:31

Yes. I'm really sad. But it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 08:34

He's slept on my friends bed with her. I'm glad he's not been shut in the bathroom crying.

I'm sure in the coming days/weeks/months it will become a picture of two happier, relaxed and very much loved cats, living their best possible lives.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 10:10

Yes. I hope so.

It would be lovely if his new family were Mumsnetters and we got ‘postcards’!

learieonthewildmoor · 30/09/2024 12:20

You've done the right thing. Penelope is already happier.
Paddington is going to be loved and happy.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 12:25

I wore my phone number on his vaccination card and said to let me know how he is.

I normally just lurk on this thread but wanted to say well done @Toddlerteaplease you have put your own feelings aside and made the best decision for your pets 💐

Soubriquet · 30/09/2024 14:31

I bet you still feel gutted. I know I would be. What are you doing about the new girl?

CatChant · 30/09/2024 15:21

Really sorry it didn’t work out for you. Sometimes no matter what you do it just isn’t meant to be.

Hopefully, they are both going to be happy now. He is a lovely cat. I am sure his new people will spoil him rotten.

Take care.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2024 15:49

@Soubriquet I really don't know. Ideally I'd wait a bit. And everyone is telling me I should. But she does sound an ideal match. It's such a dilemma!

TheLongRider · 01/10/2024 00:43

It's a pity you can't bring Pen along for a meeting with a potential new cat. I think she will let you know if it's time for a new cat.

learieonthewildmoor · 01/10/2024 06:03

Penelope had no problem with Cheddar, it’s males she won’t tolerate.
Get the little female, you won’t be happy with just one cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/10/2024 06:24

Literally everyone is telling me to wait! I said to the rescue, that if they had other matches, then to let them have her. But hey said I won't have any problem with this one. Penelope is still quite nervous. She's still not venturing downstairs yet.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 01/10/2024 09:13

Honestly if it was me..I would wait. She was obviously unsettled by Pads being here. Some might say it’s a good idea to introduce a new one before she gets comfy of being alone but I honestly think she might go backwards rather than forwards with a new cat

FlickyFlo · 01/10/2024 10:18

I read Litter Tray but don't comment. Sadly Pen was stressed by the arrival of a big softy cat invading her space, all the pics you posted such as hiding in the bathroom sink or in some tiny corner, suggested that. You absolutely have made the right decision. The rescue will be keen for you to take another cat but honestly I too think Pen needs some 'only cat' time to decompress.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/10/2024 11:10

Yes. I know waiting is the sensible thing. But it's really hard as it's an ideal match.
