What 'present' has your cat brought you? (light hearted)

My cat just came into the kitchen while I was having my lunch chirping proudly and proceeded to spit out a huge live fly in front of me....

Of course I congratulated her on her hunting skills and then promptly got rid of the fly in the garden...

What lovely gifts have you received from your cats?

Ours came in last week with a thing I first thought was a particularly knocked around mouse but was actually a catnip filled cat toy he'd stolen from somewhere.

Unfortunately this new love of cuddly toys didn't stop him gifting us a massive headless rat twice this week. Just what you want at 7am...

raspberrytart · 13/05/2024 13:36

Our cat has brought in a black bird several hedge sparrows a few tits and about 3 shrews. She's a beast. Some were dead. Some were nearly dead.

notworthanything · 13/05/2024 13:40

Mainly frogs, slow worms and mice. Usually alive, which is good but not great when you find a slow worm in the clean washing pile, a frog on the draining board or watch a mouse run into the (full) under stairs cupboard! The worst so far was a huge dead pigeon under the dining table. I dread the day she brings home a rat.

It was quite cute when she was a kitten and she'd hunt leaves miss those days

PossumintheHouse · 13/05/2024 13:42

Ours used to bring home live baby rabbits about once a week. Very alive. Which I was grateful for. We had many rabbit release ceremonies in our household.

BigDahliaFan · 13/05/2024 13:43

Baby clothes…little socks, baby dunmmy, no near neighbours with babies.

EmmaStone · 13/05/2024 13:46

Oh mine's a compulsive serial killer. Mice several times a week. Sometimes dead, sometimes alive. We've had (thankfully) few birds, a few bats, lots of shrews, quite a few rabbits (apparently the delicacy is their head), and a mole once. We live rurally, so there seems to be rich pickings.

DrJonesIpresume · 13/05/2024 14:05

Very few gifts from my latest posse.

In previous years: a mole, a weasel, a crinkle-cut chip, and (when I was a child) a great big shubunkin out of someone's pond. It was about 18 inches long and still alive, so we put it in our pond where it lived happily for many more years.

Current cat brings a vole every day, and occasional baby rabbits.

The cat I had in the early 1980s, half Persian and incredibly gentle, used to bring presents in the bedroom window, having jumped up from a 6 foot high wooden fence. Presents included pigeons, slow-worms (five in one afternoon), butterflies and dragonflies, all completely unharmed and unmarked. She’d hold them still with her paw while I inspected them, then let me release them outside.

LadyDanburysHat · 13/05/2024 14:13

This morning a dead chaffinch. In the last month, a live baby rabbit, voles, a couple of other birds and mice heads and entrails. Mice are the only thing he eats.

Xmasbaby11 · 13/05/2024 14:30

3am - dead blackbird. Brought it all the way up to our bedroom and ripped it apart until I woke up got rid of them both.

just now - another one! I've closed the cat flap and she's v disappointed not to be able to play with it in the house.

TwoBlueFish · 13/05/2024 14:32

Rats, mice, shrews, birds and once a dead adult squirrel then was proudly brought in through the cat flap and deposited at my husbands feet in his office upstairs.

WetBandits · 13/05/2024 14:32

Cooked chicken drumstick Grin

TwoBlueFish · 13/05/2024 14:35

The worst one was a dead robin that was deposited under the bed when I was in hospital. I crawled into bed when I got home and then wondered what the dreadful smell was, DH hadn’t noticed, decapitated maggoty robin body found 🤢

TheLurpackYears · 13/05/2024 14:39

Best ever was a takeaway box full if human hair- a long black ponytail ( at the time I assumed it was girls girl deciding to give herself a hair cut, with hindsight I hope was that and nothing more sinister).
This cat also bought me crisp packets, worms and once a bag of screws. He daughter was more traditional and would merrily bring me many many rats.

Gulbekian · 13/05/2024 19:13

This. No idea what it was but she was terribly proud of herself. She's 17 and I think she had suspected that she would never be able to "treat" us again. Frankly, I'd rather hoped she wouldn't 😁.

Mice probably 3 times a week. Some still alive and duly saved. A massive decomposed rat, found under my bed, which had obviously been there for many months.......

Zippedydoodahday · 13/05/2024 19:30

There's a cat locally to me that is a ferocious hunter of lighters. It brings home several a week. The owner often posts on local Facebook groups apologising with a photo of its latest stash in case anyone wants to reclaim their ones. It makes me chuckle to think there must be some local smokers who are utterly.baffled as to where their lighters keep disappearing to.

Lifestooshort71 · 13/05/2024 19:43

One evening, we heard the cat flap crashing and banging, and when we got in to the kitchen we saw a dreadful sight. Our adopted semi-feral cat had his back to us and his jaws were wrapped around a dead seagull's neck, trying to pull it through the flap. Its head was going in and out as its wings opened and shut on the outside (hence the crashing and the banging). Even though its evil eye glared at us, it was obviously deceased and I couldn't imagine our little fighter had caught it, but who knows? It was a proper nightmare moment and only became humorous after many retellings!

Startingagainandagain · 14/05/2024 09:58

Thank you everyone for all the stories.

My black fly does not seem so bad after reading this!

I had cats when I was living in a rural village as a child bring back dead wild rabbits, live birds, mice...so reading all the comments reminded me of that :).

My mum's bought a cooked chicken back once...there was a terrible fight to try and get it back off him.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2024 18:52

Earthworms . Some alive , some dead, some chopped in half so in a 50:50 state

Butterflies eaten and vomited up .

Special Treat for us as we are vegetarian (except DS) pre-chewed , warmed up grass with a hefty helping of frothy spit .... <nice >

MaleCat tanked into the room and deposited a dead sparrow a couple of years back , don't know if he killed it or found it

Bacardi101 · 14/05/2024 18:56

My indoor cat brings me pom-poms and they are always on my pillow

Aitchtee · 14/05/2024 19:00

last week my pair brought back a raw steak. Mortified, didn’t find out where it came from 🫣

maslinpan · 14/05/2024 19:06

Our cat bought yey another rat in, but at least she made the effort and put it on a plate which was parked on the stairs.

Kneenightmare · 14/05/2024 19:06

usually mice and small birds, but the worst was a live bat 😱. I’d love a roast chicken! Someone must have been very disappointed to find their tea gone!
