What 'present' has your cat brought you? (light hearted)

My cat just came into the kitchen while I was having my lunch chirping proudly and proceeded to spit out a huge live fly in front of me....

Of course I congratulated her on her hunting skills and then promptly got rid of the fly in the garden...

What lovely gifts have you received from your cats?

Rubber gloves, balloons, live frogs, sweetie wrappers (especially foil ones)

NewGreenDuck · 15/05/2024 18:20

In the UK cats have the right to roam. They are not allowed to cause injury to people or property.

ComfyButFrumpy · 15/05/2024 18:25

Nothing. My cat has a collar with a bell on, which gives the wildlife a sporting chance.
She's also extremely lazy.

runningmumoftwoloudboys · 15/05/2024 18:43

Cat #1 - voles. Many, many voles.

Cat #2 has brain damage. She hunts leaves and socks off the airer as she doesn’t leave the patio.

MKWarrier · 15/05/2024 19:29

A bat. We live in a city - absolutely no idea where she got it from!

gocompare · 15/05/2024 19:32

I have one agrophobic cat. Will not go out at all, he's not interested in what's out there.

One other cat who goes in and out all day and night. But comes home to use the tray then goes straight back out.

Never had a present off either of them. They must hate me Blush

Mine brought me the kitchen sponge once!

Abitboring · 15/05/2024 19:38

Mine brought in a large screw. I took it off him and binned it for health and safety reasons, after telling him thank you and how well he had done.

prettybird · 15/05/2024 19:54

That reminds me: we did recently find a hen's egg on the middle landing of our stairs (we live on the first floor but the front door and cat flap are on the ground floor) Confused It wasn't one of the eggs that I had bought, so can only presume one of the cats brought it in Hmm

Medium/large size, not a crack on it Shock

Broke it separately into a ramekin when I was making scrambled eggs and it was fine.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 15/05/2024 19:56

Mine brought me a frozen coy carp in the middle of summer. Still have no idea where he stole it from.

Intestines (which I stood on in bare feet)
A heart.

@maudelovesharold sky raisin = fly 🪰

😁 my old boy used to love a good sky raisin. Would do the chittering and everything. Doesn’t care now.

RunningForMySanity · 15/05/2024 20:47

Usually mice or pigeons.
Once she brought back a dead magpie, was quite miffed I wouldn’t let her bring it in, so it was left in the back garden until I had time to deal with it. Before I got round to it, another magpie spotted it and starting cawing. And then another. And then pretty quickly all their mates from the local area joined in and we had at least two dozen magpies in the trees and on the roofs staring into our garden and cawing like some scene from The Birds. Cat was DESPERATE to go back out and ‘okay’ 😂 we waited until the magpies eventually flew off and the cover of darkness before I sent my other half out to dispose of the poor dead one 😬

Most days I’m treated to one or more mice/shrews/rats/frogs/birds (letting live pigeons go in the house is his favourite hobby). I've also had a mole, a bat and a pheasant before.

One Valentine’s Day the little darling treated me to a completely gutted grey squirrel laid out perfectly like a rug on the floor. Grim.

I’ve had a whole side of salmon (stolen from the mobile fish man), someone’s knickers, kids toys and a few other things.

He crossed the line when he became a ‘kitten napper’ - last year he stole a kitten from my neighbour’s litter and carried it home. Kitten was quickly returned unharmed to her mother.

Basically he’s a complete nightmare, whereas my other cat couldn’t catch a cold!

Ah, thanks! Have never heard that before!

Our old cat used to bring in a tiny field mouse every day left in the kitchen worktop by the toaster
She only had a couple of teeth by the time she was elderly , but these mice didn't have a mark on them, we reckon she drowned them in spit .

Various bits of sparrow - leg, wing, sometimes a bum&two legs , she ate the rest .
I am relieved with just getting the odd worm.

moretractorsplease · 15/05/2024 21:42

Mice daily and the odd bird always dead and half eaten.
Most interesting thing were those dog bone chew things. Cat went through a phase of bringing those in. No idea how she wrestled those from a neighbouring dog 😂

My brother got a cushion that said 'love you mum'

Emdubz70 · 15/05/2024 21:47

Leaves and a couple of AA batteries!

rmc2001 · 15/05/2024 21:49

Best gift our cat ever brought (and managed to bring through the cat flap without damaging it) was a potted tomato plant. We planted it and had the most delicious tomatoes.

Nsky62 · 15/05/2024 22:48

Hardly any gifts, 3 in 15 months, love him to bits tho

DumpedByText · 15/05/2024 22:56

I had a Siamese cat a long time ago, he was a very naughty boy. He brought in:

A live grass snake, live baby rabbit, dead rabbits, dead mice, live mice, live birds, a grasshopper, a whole chicken carcass from someone's dinner, a string of raw sausages.

He also ate a large piece of birthday cake that had been wrapped in tin foil and two frozen chicken burgers.

He stole a lamb chop from under the grill, that then burnt his tongue and nose so bad we had to take him to emergency vets!

He was such a character and lived for 17 years!

Sunshinezero · 16/05/2024 01:23

A dead Robin under my bed on Christmas morning

bluedomino · 16/05/2024 03:21

A live adder, which he released in the house and it hid in the recliner chair. It was nasty, tried to attack us. A duck. Moles which he dug up in the garden. Squirrels and baby squirrels. Magpie. Seagull, half dead. Slow worms. An adorable dormouse baby, like a Beatrix Potter illustration. We fed it for a few days and released it. So many rabbits. Daily mice. And rats despite never seeing a live one. Now he's died and within a month a rat has appeared in the shed. My neighbour set a humane trap but the whole trap disappeared. So don't moan when they bring you a rat. They probably kill way more than they bring you. His brother only hunts cuddly toys and has never killed to our knowledge.
