What 'present' has your cat brought you? (light hearted)

My cat just came into the kitchen while I was having my lunch chirping proudly and proceeded to spit out a huge live fly in front of me....

Of course I congratulated her on her hunting skills and then promptly got rid of the fly in the garden...

What lovely gifts have you received from your cats?

My cat used to go in to the neighbours next door and bring me back whatever they was defrosting for tea, usually chicken or pork chops! I never dared tell them it was Jerry stealing their food but I did used to hear them yell at the dog 😂

One of our cats brought me a live frog this week.
It promptly hopped under the kitchen cupboards and out of sight!

The cat was extremely annoyed at being shut out of the room - she was so proud of herself 😸

We left all the drawers and kickboard out and eventually the frog hopped out of its own accord and was returned to our neighbour's pond.

FemaleCat came crashing through from the hall and scraped her bum along the floor , turd still attached ( no doubt the grass she's been eating working through)
I tried to "help" her and got attacked for my pains .

I warned my (adult) DS that she went into his room and not to annoy her .
She is now sans merde
He will have to check all the hidey spaces but he is pre-warned .

He gets a present (unwanted)
I had a fairly productive bleed and now a sore hand <Tiniest Violin>

A headless rat and an inside out pigeon…

That's hilarious! And the poor dog! 😂😂😂

I got yet another big, live fly proudly brought to me today as I was having my lunch.

Looks like the cat thinks I don't have enough insects in my diet...

I received a cooked pork chop this evening 😅

SmudgeButt · 25/05/2024 12:46

It was the half a mouse deposited on the duvet at 3 am that bothered me the most.

Well there was also the frog skeleton found under the glass cabinet but that says more about our cleaning skills rather than the cats' hunting prowess. After that we weren't too surprised to discover that the plastic bag that DH had carefully wrapped the Christmas turkey platter in and stored under the same cupboard was disintegrating into little bits. Turned out that the cats had caught a mouse and chased it under the cupboard and then got bored and left it. Mouse was too frightened to come out so tried to survive by eating the plastic bag. Didn't work obviously. Again, our bad for lack of cleaning skills. No obvious smell as DH smokes.....

SmudgeButt · 25/05/2024 12:50

Oh and little Ariadne (greek mythology for the Huntress) would bring in all sorts. Half a hotdog (neighbour's bbq), a leaf (must have been chasing her?), hotdog bun (another bbq), her own discarded collar (twice), and, biggest and best, a chunk of styrofoam as big as a football which she cathandled through the cat flap. Why Ariadne? Why???

Breadcat24 · 25/05/2024 13:22

Breadcat brought me what I thought was a dead frog- yuck- lying on its back seemed rigid.
I wrapped it in tissue and put it in the bin intending to put the bin out very soon.
Kitchen bins are built in- slide in and out.
Slid out bin bin 15mins later to empty it and nearly had a cardiac arrest as the much revived frog leapt 1 metre out onto kitchen floor!
Put it out in the garden near the pond!

NormalAuntFanny · 25/05/2024 14:19

Since last posting have had two more headless rats, one cunningly hidden behind the dresser so was only discovered when it started to smell 🤑

Really I'm fine with fresh small body disposal but several days old was too much. Of course butter wouldn't melt in his little furry mouth as he searched for his stashed rat dinner.

Huge live fly has really tickled me Grin

At least it's not as grim as headless mammals!

For those of you with very generous cats, apparently https://www.onlycat.com is the answer! It was crowdfunded but they've started shipping. It's a microchip flap and it has a camera to detect if your cat has something in its mouth and locks if it does!

Shame it wont stop my dog that thinks he's a cat catching birds in the garden. Expected it with a cat because I'm a useless hunter that needs 3am mouse deliveries, not so much with a big dogHmm

JaceLancs · 26/05/2024 20:17

Finlay is still hunting baked goods - we were away last week and had a friend cat/house sit - she sent me this picture

I got another fly brought to me as I was having breakfast...

I really think the cat feels it needs to feed me on a regular basis.

This is genius if it actually works well!

Boy cat brings in shrews but they aren’t presents, he just wants to play with them. Girl cat brings me leaves and flowers. Once when I was ill she brought me her entire collection of precious things - bottle top, pair of dd’s socks, cat toy, hospital bracelet - and placed them carefully around me on the bed. I have never felt so cherished.

😻💐

TerfTalking · 31/05/2024 10:49

All sorts over the years, different cats had different preferences. My last cat brought mice daily but once rocked up with a very large dead goldfish.

The current cat spent few years bringing large frogs and dropping them in the hall, do you know frogs actually squeal? terrifying. I hate frogs but still danced around the house catching them and letting them free in the field next door.

His pièce de résistance was (on two separate occasions) a squirrel. They are massive close up, no idea how he caught then dragged them home.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 15/05/2024 17:21

In the past we had all kinds. Rabbits, moles, mice and birds.

But the worst was this week. I was on a zoom call for work when the current cat hopped up onto my desk with a live pigeon which he then proudly dropped on my keyboard. I shrieked, pigeon flapping around my study, cat leaping trying to get it back.

God only knows what my team thought.

Hilarious! I hope your team enjoyed it!

Our female has a thing for hair bands and elastic bands , we have to remove them . DD had a little plastic drawer unit for hair accessories , Female Cat broke into it and made wild with the bands .

Cutest thing ever was her walking about with a bottle top in her mouth <<aahhh>>

bringonyourwreckingball · 31/05/2024 18:08

@70isaLimitNotaTarget my little female ginger can hear me open a bottle from 2 floors away and she’s there, waiting to pounce. I love her proud little trot out of the room to add it to her stash

A dead mouse in a trap. At 3am. Delivered to me in bed.

25thCenturyQuaker · 19/10/2024 23:08

This was the latest gift, dropped carefully in the hall at the bottom of the stairs a couple of months ago. Thankfully, nothing since then.

Late DCat once bought home a live baby bird, that he tried burying in his litter tray. I wondered why he was staring so intently at his tray. Then I saw the litter moving and out popped said bird. Felix was swiftly grabbed and shut inside the toilet, whilst I went to rescue the bird and let it back outside. By the time I'd gotten back the bird had freed itself and was flying around my kitchen, shitting everywhere. Wouldn't fly out of the open door either so in the end I ended up guiding it back outside with the sweeping brush.
