Sad Cheddar

Paws crossed for Cheddar please. She's very quiet and not herself at all. She's slept on the sofa all day and not come for cuddles. I've given her some Metacam, and got a vets appointment for tomorrow morning. I'm at work tonight, or else I'd have taken her tonight.

Oh bless our little Cheddar.
Too much rushing about after her sister.
She really looks like a sweet cat.
Glad you know what's wrong now.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/04/2024 18:45

She is a really sweet gentle cat. She has absolutely no concept of personal space. So to see her so still and quiet Is really hard. Hopefully the drugs will kick in soon.

Oh bless her, hopefully she'll be back to her old self soon 💐

Toddlerteaplease · 11/04/2024 19:48

She's gone a bit wobbly on her paws since having the first dose of gabapentin!

Hope she is better soon.

Canthave2manycats · 11/04/2024 22:50

She's lovely. Hope she feels better soon x

MrCat sends get better soons (well, I'm sure he would if he was human 😸)

Breadcat24 · 11/04/2024 23:00

wishing you well Cheddar

OhamIreally · 12/04/2024 08:13

Please look further into metacam. My cat was prescribed it for arthritis and developed kidney failure. I was later told that metacam is really a medication for dogs and although prescribed for cats it can affect their kidneys. My cat was 12 and never ill a day before that. It broke my heart and I wish I had never given him the metacam.

That's very sad about your cat :-(

I don't think Cheddar is on metcam though. He's starting on Solensia, though that might take a while to start working (my arthritic cat is also on it).

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2024 09:04

Yes. She's started solensia as she won't tolerate long term Metacam. And the doses she'd already had had made no difference. She's got a two week course of Gabapentin as well. I think she's feeling more comfortable, but is very wobbly and quite stoned!

My parents cat is on long term metacam. He had his bloods closely monitored.

I can massively vouch for Solensia - it's been a miracle drug for our cat!

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2024 10:42

@Puppylucky that's really reassuring, thanks. I've heard good things about it on here. Hopefully the side effects of the Gabapentin will wear off after a few doses. She's very drowsy.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2024 20:07

Cheddar currently very out of it. No more Gabapentin for her I think. The vet has advised to halve the dose. Will see how she goes overnight. But I'm not keen to give her any more! At least it's forced my hand to buy a new duvet. Been meaning too for ages.

Poor Cheddar Sad

Why didn't they put her straight on Solensia?

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2024 21:03

They have. She's had her first injection. But the vet said it takes five days to kick in. The Gabapentin is to bridge the gap. I've just brought her down for a cuddle and she's not budging from the blanket.

Scampuss · 12/04/2024 21:22

Oh I see.

Really hope she perks up soon.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2024 22:52

I've put her to bed in her rarely used bed. I'm hoping she jumps on me in the middle of the night and frightens the life out of me!

My late elderly boy was on Loxicom long-term. It didn't seem to affect him negatively.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2024 06:12

She's still on her basket. But has repositioned herself a couple of times. And is more responsive to her name. Working all day today. So I'll have to leave the camera on.

Puppylucky · 13/04/2024 08:53

That's odd about the Solensia as it worked immediately on Elton - but he's younger with joint pain rather than full blown arthritis. I am with you about being wary regarding Gabapentin - we have to give it to Elton to calm him down before the vets and a single dose will knock him out for up to 2 days. Apparently it's a very difficult drug for them to overdose on though so Cheddar is probably fine just stoned !

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2024 08:59

@Puppylucky I hope that's all it is. It's absolutely awful seeing her so quiet.

Jillybloop393 · 13/04/2024 09:00

Hoping Cheddar is feeling better today x

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2024 10:21

She's still spark out on my bed. Bit is changing her position. So that's an improvement. It's 24 hours since she had the Gabapentin. So hopefully she'll perk up. Ice out the duvet she's ruined back on the bed to protect my only spare. So it doesn't matter if she weed on it. But I hope she doesn't!

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2024 10:39

At least she's curled up in her normal position rather than the one she was in last night.
