Came home from work tonight and no sign of Finlay
Then found him in his basket with blood on face - we think he may have been hit by a car - tried not to move him unnecessarily and rang emergency vets
We’ve just returned home to wait anxiously for X-rays and scans - main concern is he cannot weight bear on back legs at all
Ive asked for them not to PTS without letting us say goodbye
I don’t know whether to think the worst and hope to be proved wrong or or be hopeful and feel worse if it doesn’t work out for him
I am beyond devastated for those who remember me we lost Reuben and Evie back in May and have only had Finlay a few short months

Lovely boy. So glad to hear it’s all going well!

eurochick · 15/12/2023 23:02

Lovely boy!

I currently have a Smokey grey cat of my own on crate rest following knee surgery. She miaows plaintively every time someone walks in the room but otherwise seems ok in the cage.

My top tip would be to stock up on treats as drug delivery system. I am now a dab hand at mixing crushed up tablets into lick-e-lix...

Good to hear the update.

He's a beautiful cat 😻

OneFingerOneThumbKeepMoving · 16/12/2023 08:04

Poor little mite. Like you say though, he's getting excellent care and is in the best place possible. They'll take good care of him. I hope you have him back home in no time xx

LostCats · 16/12/2023 10:01

Ahh little man. So glad to see the update. Do hope he isn’t feeling too terrible post drugs

JaceLancs · 16/12/2023 16:40

Vet hospital rang just now he’s still needing IV pain relief so might be Monday before he is ready to come home

He seems to be doing well though. Fingers crossed.

Ellmau · 16/12/2023 17:18

Your poor baby.

Greezynogreasy · 16/12/2023 22:47

Thinking of you both.
Wishing him a rapid recovery and hope he gets home Monday.
He’s in the best place at the moment 💕

Update - Finlay is home - very unsteady and not happy at being confined to crate or wearing collar
We are going to have to rethink the crate as he started climbing the bars and doing a high wire act then fell, for now we have covered in top and padded the floor more but vet said to try a smaller crate as he’s not really supposed to be even walking much
He is allowed out for cuddles and was so pitifully crying I had to let him have some lap time but you have to be pretty nifty to stop him trying to get down
It’s a good job I’m off work poorly myself at moment

Ah, bless him!

TheShellBeach · 18/12/2023 15:38

Oh dear, his little face - you can see he's fed up.

I'm glad he's through the operation though. Good luck with the recovery period, OP, and I hope you feel better soon, too.

Logoplanter · 18/12/2023 18:05

That's great that he's home.

How long do they think he'll need to stay in the crate?

OneFingerOneThumbKeepMoving · 18/12/2023 18:39

This is the best news. He's made of strong stuff bless him xx

JaceLancs · 18/12/2023 18:42

They’ve said 4-6 weeks in crate - then another 4-6 weeks in one room with no stairs - thankfully house is not open plan
He goes back to hospital in 4 weeks for X-rays under sedation so will know more then and having wound check locally on Friday
DS has just gone out to buy a smaller crate whilst I’m having more lap time
Taken collar off whilst under supervision but will replace for crate

Look at his little face.

Igmum · 18/12/2023 18:50

Awww 🥰❤️ welcome home Finlay

JaceLancs · 18/12/2023 19:06

I bought a softer collar for sleeping in which I’ve just had to put on as he was showing too much interest in wound area
I can’t tell you all how pleased I am to have him home

Awww - so happy he is home ❤

Ellmau · 18/12/2023 19:30

He looks happier in the soft one.

lovelyjubbly888 · 18/12/2023 20:19

Omg he looks like a little flower in that!! 🥹

CatChant · 19/12/2023 00:01

Gorgeous boy. The soft collar suits him and looks much more comfortable.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/12/2023 02:21

Finlay the buttercup! So glad he’s come through the operation safely, OP.

JaceLancs · 19/12/2023 16:53

Finlay is a bit whiney today - he doesn’t like the smaller crate even though it is for his own good
Trying to give him lots of lap time as I’m hoping to be well enough to return to work on Thursday

On the bright side, it’s really good he’s a cuddly lap cat! Makes your job a bit easier. Hope he’s feeling a bit perkier soon.
