Do your cats demand to picked up and cuddled?

Out of all the cats I've ever known, Cheddar is the only cat who demands to be picked up and cuddled. Other cats would allow it but not demand it. I'm not entirely sure she's a real cat though.

My Siamese would crawl up my leg if I didn’t bend down to assist her; she then sat on my shoulder virtually all day. I got so used to it, I forgot she was there, which led to some amazed faces on delivery people.

JoanOgden · 14/09/2023 10:53

Mine demands that I drop to the floor and stroke her. If I don't do this she is at risk of being under-snuggled, which apparently is very dangerous.

Findyourneutralspace · 14/09/2023 10:55

Under snuggling is indeed very dangerous. My big lad yowls if I don’t pick him up as required. Bonus points if I’m wearing my dressing gown to administer the snuggles.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2023 10:56

@JoanOgden, Cheddar agrees that being under snuggled is very dangerous. Unless it's your human forgets their manners and wants a snuggle, when you haven't asked for one.

No. They do go to our bedrooms and come lie on the bed next to us, or come lie next to one of us on the sofa, but they don't particularly like being picked up. One tolerates it the other not so much! But if my daughter picks her up and puts her on her lap she'll stay for a fair bit. They love getting tummy rubs though!

Mushroo · 14/09/2023 11:01

One of ours does. Always when I’m trying to get ready for the day - she yells at me until I concede and I have to do my make up one handed.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 14/09/2023 11:02

One of ours does. I love it. I love it now that the weather is getting cooler so I can spend the winter with him snuggled inside my dressing gown. T'other tolerates a cuddle, but won't fall asleep on you.

Freddiefan · 14/09/2023 11:05

When I get up in the morning our cat makes me sit on the top stair and he sits on my knee lifting his head for kisses. He's big so it's not easy to fit himself on but he curls himself round until he manages it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/09/2023 11:08

No, she hates being picked up. She’s a total lapcat, especially when the weather’s colder - and if we’re lying in bed on a weekend morning she will snuggle into my neck like a baby monkey though!

dementedpixie · 14/09/2023 11:18

One of my cats can growl if you pick them up. The other makes a yowl sound. They are not amenable to being lifted but will sit on laps when they choose.

bringonyourwreckingball · 14/09/2023 11:25

One of mine demands cuddles, mainly from dd2 but I am her auxiliary back up human when there is danger of being under snuggled. Cat number 2 will sit on any lap going but does not like to be picked up. Cat number 3 will sit near you but not on you although she sometimes sits on me in bed.

MsFrost · 14/09/2023 11:26

I had a tabby who would climb on the bed/ sofa and nudge you until you picked him up and stroked him. He was relentless. It actually became quite annoying at times!

YouJustDoYou · 14/09/2023 11:26

No sadly

TeaMistress · 14/09/2023 11:28

Yes definitely. My little girl winds herself round my feet and squeaks until I fuss her and has a routine where she will come and pad on me and lay on my chest for a cuddle in the evenings. My boy is an absolute cuddle bug and he will butt his head against my legs until he is picked up and snuggled.

Yep. Always when I'm
Trying to get in the shower. No amount of explaining, that I will be late for work, and will therefore not be able to keep her in the luxury she is accustomed too will cut it.

No. They demand attention and cuddles, one will tolerate being picked up but doesn't like it and the other will kill anyone who touches him anywhere apart from his head.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2023 11:39

@MsFrost Cheddar is very annoying, particularly when she wakes me up. If she just went back to sleep, that would've LD be fine. But no, we have to make biscuits, poke me in the face and generally be a pain in the backside. By which time I'm fully awake.

My cat doesn't like to be picked up. She likes to climb up or jump up.
Once there though she lies across my chest like I'm cradling a baby and I have to have one arm underneath her and the other over the top of her with my hand going between her front paws and stroking her chest and chin. I have to look at her the whole time or she hits my face. She likes to 'kiss' me by putting her face to mine and touching her mouth to mine and staying like that for a second or two.

She's got very specific requirements 😂 and it happens 5 - 10 times a day depending on how needy she's feeling.

Justcashnosweets · 14/09/2023 11:49

My cats don't demand to be picked up, but one of them will follow me around when I get up and miaow at me until I cuddle him and give him a kiss 🤣

Hereforsummer · 14/09/2023 12:01

I've had a few cats over the years and one I have now is the only one I've known who will ask to be picked up. He'll jump up onto any available service and if you stop to speak to him he stands on his back legs to demand a cuddle. He's incredibly sweet natured and we've had him since 4 weeks and hand reared him, so I think he believes he is human.

Isheabastard · 14/09/2023 12:04

Can I just check? Is “under snuggling” dangerous because it’s the one that leaves you with blood dripping from your ankles?

HerAvatar · 14/09/2023 12:04

Mine does, she particularly likes to harass DH when he's busy/late for work/on his way to bed to be picked up and then headbutts his face for kisses. She does do it to the rest of us too (at least once a day) but DH is her primary target for cuddles, maybe because she has him wrapped around her furry paw so knows he will do her bidding Grin

user1471548941 · 14/09/2023 12:21

My newest rescue demands cuddles… if we go into the bedroom he runs up the stairs, jumps on the bed and runs across it squeaking madly. I have to turn and face the bed and he puts his front paws on my shoulders, I have to pick him up and cuddle him and he reaches his paws round my neck and tucks his head under my chin. I have never known a cat like it!

My ginger boy LOVES fuss and loves snuggling my husband in bed or a lap, particularly in cooler weather but only tolerates being picked up and really only by DH, who is his clear favourite!

Greenshake · 14/09/2023 12:26

Cheddar is extremely cute!

StBrides · 14/09/2023 12:29

Yes. Even those cats who are initially reluctant to be cuddled!
