How many cats do you currently have?

We have 2 rescues brother and sister, they're almost 14. I've just seen that a rescue near me hasn't been able to rehome 2 of their black cats (a pair) due to their age both 13.

I'm not planning on asking any questions about them, I'd love them but our cats are so spoiled I'd hate for them to be unhappy with supposed interlopers.

So if you have more than 2 and got them at various stages do they get on?

No I'm definitely NOT getting another 2!

One cat. He’s an indoor cat as he has FIV. And should be kept as the only pet. He was at Cats Protection and they said he wasn’t interested in other cats.

I hope your husband is the strong willed type. But I suspect you will soon have 4 cats. Which will be lovely.

WildFlowerBees · 16/01/2023 18:46

See what I mean? Dh totally encumbered while I on the other hand am overrun. Definitely can't have two more. 😬

He's as soft as me we have two rescue hedgehogs also, either one of us could being an animal home and be fine with it. Not sure that's a good thing though!

3, they turn 11, 12 and 13 this year.
I got dcat1(m) as a kitten then 6 months later got dcat 2 (f) who was 18 months old, tbh I almost gave her back as the hissing and fighting just wasn't stopping. It did calm down eventually but they only tolerate each other.
Got dcat 3 (m) a year later and they all get on ok with each other but they definitely not besties!
As they age I'd only get another if I'm left with dcat 3, think the others would rather enjoy the peace and quiet 🤫

Stickytreacle · 16/01/2023 18:55

10 here, it was 11 but one sadly pts before christmas.

They do all get on, I think there's just that many that nobody dare start anything!

C1N1C · 16/01/2023 19:10

Two. They're dicks.

Allergictoironing · 16/01/2023 19:28

Currently 2, soon to become 1 when Boycat succumbs to his CKD. 8 years old, bonded pair of ex feral litter mates. Will see how Girlcat gets on being an only indoor cat before making any decisions when Boycat is gone.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 16/01/2023 19:29

I like the sound of your husband op. I wish we had hedgehogs. We have a ton of foxes and squirrels that come into the house not to get food for themselves but to remind us to put food out.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/01/2023 19:30

We tend to 'top up' when numbers drop. 😹
Currently have four cats, two 12 year olds and two 5 year olds (who we got after the last of our triplet cats died aged 20).
They all rub along quite happily, even if Lenny and Sybil don't always see eye to eye.

ofwarren · 16/01/2023 19:30

One is the mum of them all.
They mainly get on but they do have the odd disagreement and 2 of them just tolerate each other.

I've got four.

Two sisters who we got as kittens as a bonded pair (now no longer bonded in fact hate each other lol)

And two older cats who are a bonded mother son pair.

They have only just got to the point where they will all be in the same room at the same time. One of the new cats bullied our old cats for a long time. It was stressful and there were behaviour issues as a result. It's taken about three years for them to tolerate each other. It's now ok but I wouldn't do it again. My advice is that there is a good risk you could end up with three very unhappy cats with corresponding poor behaviour such as urinating indoors and bullying, you may not but it's a risk. I would wait.

MmedeGouge · 16/01/2023 19:36

I have two officially, but one has left home to live with my neighbour.

Snowwhite83 · 16/01/2023 19:42

I sleep with my two siamese in a king sized bed. Def no space for DH. He is in another room!

whirlyhead · 16/01/2023 19:49

4 here, one of them hates the others but he hates us too.

We have a king size bed and successfully fit all 4 on most nights, though my little princess steals my pillow so I have to put another in front and sleep with my feet off the end (see photo). Which is fine as she’s happy.

if my other half had his way we’d have about 20.

Gronkle · 16/01/2023 19:52

1 if we got another she'd leave home. Lol

Devilou666 · 16/01/2023 19:57

4,the most we've ever had,normally one or 2.

Theunamedcat · 16/01/2023 19:59

I have three they are brothers but we got them at different stages I had 1&2 within a week they bonded then three months later brother three was being given away for free on Facebook so I snagged him (to stop him being used in dog baiting) he really disturbed our calm home now im stuck with only 2 out of three getting along at any one time third cat was the third wheel then second cat got sick his smell changed and he was rejected by his brother he now spends a lot of time with me they have really taken seperate positions in the household and despite feliway and zyclene and extra litter trays it still gets to fur flying occasionally

One day I'm hoping they will go back to cuddle puddles

Devilou666 · 16/01/2023 20:02

Sorry I didn't read properly before posting,we had one neutered rom for 4 years alone, then introduced a she re-home during lockdown, never loving but tolerated each other, now have 2 sibling she's 9 months old,he chases them off and hisses if they get too near but other than that no behaviour issues off any of them. The 3 she's get on fab.

1 is mine, the other just thinks he's mine

GotAnyGrapez · 16/01/2023 20:06

Three. Nine, six and three.
I do have room for more.. but maybe when my kids have grown up!

WithASpider · 16/01/2023 20:08

Three here. 2 girls aged 7 raised and adopted together but not related, and a very small 10 month old girl with epilepsy.
They all get on reasonably well - the Tabby and the Kitten are playmates.
The dog tolerates them all.
