Stray cat isn't well

This little starving cat turned up last week. Young, maybe 5 months old, or else just tiny. Very bony. Very hungry, desperate. Didn't leave. Hung around in an outbuilding. I did feed it because it was so clearly lost and starving. Posted on social media, no one has come forward.

The temperature really dropped Friday night and I brought it in the house.

It's got a wound on its back. Was scabbed over but that came off and its started weeping pus. Today, loads came out, as I was wiping it, it was coming out again. I pressed a bit, loads more.

It also has worms.

So it needs to go to the vet. I really don't have the money for a big bill. I could maybe manage a consultation and antibiotics but nothing ongoing. I've never been in this (shitty financial) position before. Will the vets take it and treat/rehome?

Hey op, if you go on Facebook/ or just google and put it in your area and cat rescue there may be some rescues that will help you, you could just give them a little donation. A lot of them will come for free. Thanks for caring for the little cat.

Sheilascarface · 20/11/2022 23:10

Sorry put in your area not put it in

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2022 23:16

I found an Ill starving cat and posted on a local Facebook site. To see who owned him. A local rescue came forward and helped him. The large ones we no help at all.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2022 23:17

They will also scan for a chip. He may have a family missing him.

Bemyclementine · 20/11/2022 23:25

Thanks. I've found a vet that is the only one around not bought out by a big group, and are apparently very reasonably priced. I will call them tomorrow.

On the plus side, skinny cat is eating drinking, wee and pooping. Purring. And cosy on a blanket on the sofa

Contact Cat Protection. Our local branch is very helpful so yours may help. .

Thank you for helping the poor thing..

Beamur · 20/11/2022 23:47

Poor little kitty. No wonder it's purring now it's warm and safe.
Hopefully a rescue can help with the costs.

Bemyclementine · 20/11/2022 23:47

We do have a local cpl, I was going to contact them anyway about spaying. Good news, after the large amount of pud that came out earlier, cat had a few hours rest and is much more active now, has followed me upstairs and demanding fuss.

Thank you, I was trying so hard to be sensible but it was so cold Friday. Panicked at the sight of the pus. At least she's warm and fed which is an improvement.

I think cpl are so good and will help with speying when it is old enough. I think the little 🐈 just found its forever home. Thank you for caring.

Sheilascarface · 21/11/2022 10:21

Thanks for updating @Bemyclementine glad they are doing better. Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2022 12:23

@caringcarer they were useless and downright rude when I had a cat in need.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/11/2022 20:11

I’d have done the same op, you can’t let a domestic animal suffer.

Bemyclementine · 21/11/2022 21:35

Further update - the wound is trying to heal over, which means that today the pus hasn't leaked out. Its built up under the skin. I've bathed, and had to give it quite a squeeze to get it out (it squirted ).

Called a local vet, and explained. They gave me an rspca number, told me to call them abd they'd give me a code which would cover the cost of the emergency treatment. She's (he??) going to the vets tomorrow.

The DC have named her.

You are a kind person, & now a cat person. I hope the wee one gets better soon.

BaggiesBride · 21/11/2022 22:27

Just wanted to thank you for caring and doing your best for this little cat. It warms my heart 💐💐

Fuckingfuckssake · 21/11/2022 22:30

We've had various waifs and strays (local feral colony) over the years and our vets have never charged us on the odd occasion we've managed to trap One and take it in.

Bemyclementine · 21/11/2022 22:38

Thank you. 😊 I really am not in a position to take on another animal but I really don't know what else I could do.

@Fuckingfuckssake my usual vet was great, until they were taken over by a large group. They treated my cat (found as a starving tiny kitten) free of charge. They wouldn't do it now though!

OP posts:
Fuckingfuckssake · 21/11/2022 22:40

Sorry to hear that, you'd like to think animal welfare would remain forefront wouldn't you.

sorchaedwards · 21/11/2022 22:43

Thank you so much for being a kind person and looking after this poor little cat.

Bemyclementine · 21/11/2022 22:48

@Fuckingfuckssake Well you'd hope so. I was on hold to the RSPCA earlier, not ever so convinced they'd give me the code for the emergency treatment. Part of their recorded message was that it costs at least £300 for them to go out and rescue an animal. This before they start on feeding, housing, treating, caring for it. Would def be cheaper to just pay this cats vet bill.

The thing they told you about ringing the Rspca and getting a number works fine. I had a stray kitten turn up at mine in a desperate state a few years back. Vet said to ring Rspca to get a number, which I did, then the vet cared for the kitten for a week, Rspca paid. After a week, noone had claimed the kitten so he became mine.

Bemyclementine · 22/11/2022 13:57

Cat has been to the vet, antibiotics and pain killer injection, worm and flea treatment. No chip. They didn't want to keep her in so she's back with me
