Stray cat isn't well

This little starving cat turned up last week. Young, maybe 5 months old, or else just tiny. Very bony. Very hungry, desperate. Didn't leave. Hung around in an outbuilding. I did feed it because it was so clearly lost and starving. Posted on social media, no one has come forward.

The temperature really dropped Friday night and I brought it in the house.

It's got a wound on its back. Was scabbed over but that came off and its started weeping pus. Today, loads came out, as I was wiping it, it was coming out again. I pressed a bit, loads more.

It also has worms.

So it needs to go to the vet. I really don't have the money for a big bill. I could maybe manage a consultation and antibiotics but nothing ongoing. I've never been in this (shitty financial) position before. Will the vets take it and treat/rehome?

My friend had a stray find her, they called it Jam - short for Jammy cat 😂

Peony15 · 22/11/2022 22:49

aw , this is how my black cat arrived 18 years ago. On a cold November night, starving with a huge injury on her tail. Vet treated her for free. Didn't want a cat as I was allergic. DC and DH kind of moved her in... what can you say when all of them sit on sofa looking at you 😆.
She's meant to be with you ! Glad she's feeling better. I love a happy story, especially at the moment

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2022 23:24

That’s democracy for you @Peony15

TheLongRider · 22/11/2022 23:40

Oh she's lovely! She has chosen her humans wisely.

May I suggest Twinkle La Pompom as a name?

PauliString · 23/11/2022 09:23

Actually I think she’s a Perdita (the Lost Girl).

Bemyclementine · 23/11/2022 18:36

More pus has exited from a different place (new 'hole') today but I'm pleased it's out. She is better again and has been sitting on my shoulder. She's begging in the kitchen now

How is she going today?

Bemyclementine · 26/11/2022 22:59

So much better! Thank you for asking. She's a lovely little thing, wounds healing up nicely, no more pus. I need to book her in to be spayed, then she can go out in the garden which I think she'd love. Just hoping she's not already been caught, I don't want kittens!

They can actually be spayed while pregnant, though I think that may be dependent on how far gone they are.

Nice to hear she's improving 😀

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/11/2022 19:17

Spay and aborts possible, there’s no shortage of kittens in this country.

Any more updates?

Mia184 · 27/05/2023 18:16

Yes, I‘d also love an update. And a new photo.

Bemyclementine · 27/05/2023 20:26

Well she lives here now. Its been tricky settling her in with my existing cat but I think they've sorted it out now. She's a lovely little thing!

You've managed to provide the answer everybody wanted to hear. Good on you 👍

CrackedSkull · 27/05/2023 20:35

This update has gladdened my heart ♥️

Bemyclementine · 27/05/2023 20:37

Thank you 😊 She's a little fuss pot, very very gentle with the children (they can cuddle her, snuggle with her etc which dcat1 often won't allow) and sleeps on their beds. She purrs a LOT. She loves exploring outside.

Thank you. She is absolutely gorgeous!

I'm so glad this little kitty found you OP. If you contact Cats Protection League and explain she was a stray I think they sometimes spey for free.

Cornettoninja · 27/05/2023 21:16

As this is a lovely thread. Your stray cat is the spitting image of my stray - another who managed to spot a soft touch and get herself looked after like a queen Grin

My (sadly deceased now) other lady grumpily accepted her and she’s a firm part of the family.

(My lawn is wild - no mow May. And a prime hunting ground for moths apparently !)

Have had this before, notify RSPCA and they will pay to take to nearest vet and be treated. My Dr. Doolittle Mum did this many a time, although have a feeling she may have just paid out if her own money at times. X
