Cat gone missing, devastated 😔

Went away for the weekend and just before we arrived back he disappeared. Very out of character as he's very social and was visiting our next door neighbours regularly through the day (they were also feeding him and my other cat and locking them inside each night)

He's just vanished during the middle of Monday. No sightings, nothing. Rang vets, Facebook groups, walked neighbourhood calling, no one has seen him and he's very distinctive as talkative and a unusual colour and shape.

I'm beyond heartbroken. Putting up posters this evening but I hate not knowing what has happened to him.

Chipped?

Oopsiedaisyy · 27/10/2022 12:10

Yes, and neutered.

How old is he? I take it Bengal or Siamese as talkative and distinctive colour/shape?

My boys done this quite a few times in his youth. Usually once a year. We worry ourselves silly but thankfully he has returned each time. His holidays can last a week.

ChristmasJumpers · 27/10/2022 12:19

My boy went missing last year and was gone overnight. I was distraught but it turned out he'd gone into next doors outhouse and got locked in (we heard him crying the next morning). Have you asked neighbours to check their garages/outhouses?

ReviewingTheSituation · 27/10/2022 12:24

We went away for a weekend in August and locked the cat in (usually a very keen outdoor cat, but not to be trusted!). She escaped when the cleaners came at 9am Monday and would have had no way of getting back inside. We got back at 7pm Monday to find her gone. Assumed she'd come back when she realised we were home (calling, shaking food, lights on etc), but nothing. I was beside myself! She eventually wandered in, unrepentant, at 6pm on Tuesday evening.

I asked neighbours to check garages and sheds, which they all did. No idea where she had been all that time, but cats are ridiculously resilient. He'll be back, I'm sure.

MarshaMelrose · 27/10/2022 12:24

Ring the police and have him recorded as lost. We leafleted the area too.
Usually they're not far away but might have just wandered, or got scared, out of their usual patch so have no scenting to get back to the area they know.
Hope you find him.

KirstenBlest · 27/10/2022 12:28

They usually come back, @Oopsiedaisyy . Ask neighbours to check sheds and garages. Hope he's back soon

Novemberhater · 27/10/2022 12:48

Mine turned up on the doorstep after four months. Hopefully yours will, but much sooner.

MarshaMelrose · 27/10/2022 12:48

Also ring local animal homes, rspca, cat protection, etc. In the charity I worked, we used to keep a log book to record lost and strays to try to marry them up. You could also ring vets.
And finally you could ring the council. It's a horrible thought, but if it's been in a road accident, the council usually will pick the bodies up and they should keep a record. It's very unlikely that will have happened, though. Usually they just potter back in one day.

MarshaMelrose · 27/10/2022 12:49

Go round the area late in the evening when it's quiet, shouting his name.

Oopsiedaisyy · 27/10/2022 13:07

Just printed out some posters to stick to local lamp posts, asking people to check sheds and garages, and houses too.
Called vets, no sign. Have walked neighbourhood each evening.

Hes a rescue, was a street cat and is a breed called an Arabian Mau. He's very self sufficient I know, but want the little twat home!!!

Hope you find him soon.

My cat disappeared for 3 days and it turned out he was being bullied by 3 Siamese that had moved into the area and was hiding under a neighbour's shed about 400m away.

Fingers crossed for you.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 27/10/2022 13:45

My two are Arabian Maus. No advice beyond what you are doing - sending hugs.

custardbear · 27/10/2022 13:48

Put his litter outside so he can smell it, and sone of your worn clothes on the washing line so he can smell you too
Good luck

This piece of advice may be reliant on the pet's name. Smile

Still not back

But my other cat... Had her before him, also a rescue but very timid, but had been coming out of her shell until her arrived. He never got the concept of play that didn't involve claws or biting, with us or her. She always seemed wary of him. Now, she seems happier. More purry, more talkative, more playful with us, and by herself. Less stressed?

We put posters up around the village. I suppose all i can do is wait.

He'll be back.

Please don’t say things like this. It’s daft. You don’t know that and very sadly unlikely.

i am so sorry OP. Join a local Facebook group or next door app as I often see people posting about foundcats

KirstenBlest · 28/10/2022 10:22

Spoil her until he comes back.

RaraRachael · 28/10/2022 13:04

So sorry he's not back yet. Do you have a local Cats' Protection group as they can put a message and photo on their FB page to reach a bigger audience.

ChocChipOwl · 28/10/2022 13:09

@Razu45 it's not unlikely at all! At this stage it's actually very very likely. So maybe don't say things like you've done eh?

The majority of cats return.

Don’t be ridiculous of course it’s not ‘unlikely’.

KirstenBlest · 28/10/2022 13:49

Could you stop the accusations of being daft and ridiculous please.

AnnaMagnani · 28/10/2022 13:55

I also have an Arabian Mau so thinking of you, they are great cats.

A Tractive tracking collar has saved our sanity with him.

Fladdermus · 28/10/2022 14:00

Boy cats do this. Randomly stay away for periods of time calculated to cause maximum stress to their minions. Then they stroll in as if they've only been gone 5 minutes.
