Cat gone missing, devastated 😔

Went away for the weekend and just before we arrived back he disappeared. Very out of character as he's very social and was visiting our next door neighbours regularly through the day (they were also feeding him and my other cat and locking them inside each night)

He's just vanished during the middle of Monday. No sightings, nothing. Rang vets, Facebook groups, walked neighbourhood calling, no one has seen him and he's very distinctive as talkative and a unusual colour and shape.

I'm beyond heartbroken. Putting up posters this evening but I hate not knowing what has happened to him.

If your cat has been injured, someone is likely to take him to the vets, so call all local vets with a description.

Oopsiedaisyy · 28/10/2022 15:47

Thanks, We have one vets in the village who know him, and are aware.

I had been wary of a tracker as neither of them are used to collars. If he comes back I'm going to duct tape a tracker to him.

Ours had never had a collar. When we first put it on he lept straight in the air and danced around like crazy.

It doesn't even bother him now when we take it on and off and he isn't the most handlable of cats - we used to have to sneak up when he was asleep.

It took us a little while to grasp the right level of tightness so he didn't take it off but now we rarely have to go and retrieve it from other people's gardens. He has a nice roll in the dirt and would ping it off.

He now has a good routine where collar goes on in the morning when he goes out, we start looking at the tracker about 4pm and as soon as he is home we call/bribe him in. Collar off for the night.

We now realise that pre-tracker he would come home and if we weren't right there, he'd get bored and wander off to do something else. Possibly all night.

My clingy homebody cat went missing for 8 days. Returned by himself, still no idea where he was. He wouldn't even go near a window for weeks afterwards

thelobsterquadrille · 29/10/2022 08:33

Two of mine have run off before - both were gone for 3-4 days before turning up in a neighbours garden like nothing has happened 🙄

One was in next doors shed - I went out to call him one evening (on advice from here) and heard nothing then a very faint but distinctive shout! We had to get him out from behind a rusty old lawnmower Grin

The other one was a few houses down in a bush in someone's garden - we had to prod her out with a stick after bribing her with cheese didn't work 🙈

Honestly - the vast majority of cats will be back home and fine. Put your clothing and litter out so he can smell home. Call him at dawn and dusk when it's quiet and when he's likely to be most active. Good luck!

So sorry. This has happened to both my Mum and Dad’s neighbours cats. One had got shut in a garage for a couple of days and another went missing for a couple of days and no one knows where she was. They returned :)

I hope you find him 🧡🧡🧡

Iloveallcats · 29/10/2022 10:26

Also in addition to the above my indoor cat escaped once. Did the food bowl shaking and calling - nothing. Was devastated. We live in a back to back terrace. Got to night time so it was quiet and started calling and heard meowing.

Found her in a yard of the house backing onto ours. She had run out of our house (end terrace) and down the road then on to the next street. Either didn’t hear her in the day time (traffic) or maybe she was too scared to meow.

I had read that they rarely go far and in my case this was true.

Put leaflets through doors in your neighborhood. Non-cat people walk past posters but are more likely to read and keep a leaflet - this helped in getting our cat home after 2 weeks.

Consider offering a reward, especially if the cat is a pedigree - I think some pet insurances cover this

Keep looking and keep alerting people. We helped find a neighborhood cat that had been missing for 3 weeks. The owners kept putting up fresh posters noting possible sightings and updating social media. We spotted him late one night but couldn't catch him, so called the owners who were able to bring him home safely. Best of luck!

He's been found, he wandered into a house that was being visited on Monday while owner in hospital. Was spotted today by relatives in the window and they had seen my poster. He's scared, hungry and I'm so relieved.

So glad he has been found!

Mumdiva99 · 29/10/2022 19:09

Great news that he's home. X

ChocChipOwl · 29/10/2022 19:10

How wonderful!

Maybe @Razu45 will think twice before making twatty comments in future

Tillsforthrills · 29/10/2022 19:14

I’ve done the old cat litter tray outside and it’s worked.

Tillsforthrills · 29/10/2022 19:14

Oh he’s been found, fantastic.

Crazycatlady202020 · 29/10/2022 19:23

I'm so pleased that he has been found!

MarshaMelrose · 29/10/2022 19:26

🥳 Aw, so happy. They usually are found but it's always best to give a helping hand.
I bet he's being spoiled to death right now.

Iamacatslave · 29/10/2022 19:28

Great news.

Oopsiedaisyy · 29/10/2022 19:29

I knew he'd be stuck somewhere

WitchyOsmansXraySpectre · 29/10/2022 19:32

That's great news 🥳

Let me know if you find a decent tracker, all the ones we've had have been rubbish.

AnnaMagnani · 29/10/2022 19:32

So happy for you!

We have spent the afternoon at the house of an elderly couple who our cat drops in on - he marches in through their cat flap and makes himself at home. We would never have known without the tracker, and we had a lovely afternoon talking cats.

A tracker definitely lets you know where your cat's village friends are. I suspect if yours was trapped in an elderly person's house he's being hanging out there before, and it's the trip to hospital where it all went wrong.

Oopsiedaisyy · 29/10/2022 19:35

That's a good point, probably exactly that!

Any tracker recommendations?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/10/2022 19:37

hooray!

AnnaMagnani · 29/10/2022 19:39

We've got Tractive. Very happy with it.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 29/10/2022 19:41

Tracker? Surely he is grounded!!
Congratulations op!!
