Cat gone missing, devastated 😔

Went away for the weekend and just before we arrived back he disappeared. Very out of character as he's very social and was visiting our next door neighbours regularly through the day (they were also feeding him and my other cat and locking them inside each night)

He's just vanished during the middle of Monday. No sightings, nothing. Rang vets, Facebook groups, walked neighbourhood calling, no one has seen him and he's very distinctive as talkative and a unusual colour and shape.

I'm beyond heartbroken. Putting up posters this evening but I hate not knowing what has happened to him.

Oh that’s lovely that he’s home and safe. Little pickle😻

Hope he tolerates a tracker.

thesunwillout · 29/10/2022 19:53

Gosh I am so pleased for you.

Oopsiedaisyy · 29/10/2022 20:08

His sister will wear one too, not going through this again. Ordered the Tractive ones.

Brilliant!!

What were the relatives doing in the window?

Hope the neighbour is home from hospital soon!

out? Tell him he'll be bloody lucky to see the outside world again after that little stunt!!

SO relieved for you!! One of my girls went missing for a couple days about a month ago - totally out of character as is a real homebody. I just knew she was stuck somewhere. She was eventually found hiding under the spare room bed of a neighbour 4 doors down from us - had obviously snuck in at some point then got spooked and just hid! My other one once also disappeared for a day and a half - returned covered in cobwebs - could only assume she must have got locked in a shed…they’re very good at getting themselves stuck in places they shouldn’t be in in the first place 😬

Oopsiedaisyy · 29/10/2022 20:23

Neighbour is going into a care home, relatives were sorting out her house today...

Delighted for you @Oopsiedaisyy . You must be so relieved.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 31/10/2022 10:24

I knew he'd be back...

I'm pleased for you, OP. 👍🏻

Oopsiedaisyy · 31/10/2022 20:40

Thank you! He's got a dodgy tummy, I suspect after not eating properly for a few days and attempting to make up all his missed meals the last few days.

I've just charged up his new Tractive tracker, not going through that again!

Ah lovely news! So happy you found him. There's absolutely nothing like that feeling of relief when they turn up is there? Like you want to tell them off for wandering off but you're so happy to see them that you just give them a thousand kisses!

HonorHiding · 31/10/2022 20:50

So pleased to hear he is home. We have a Tractive tracker and really like it.

Moonchild18 · 31/10/2022 21:22

Glad he's home! I had one who wandered into someone's home one day, he was in there for 5 days before they found him hiding under the bed in the spare room, they said they thought their old cat must have been developing dementia because they kept finding kitty accidents around the house 🙈

Blowyourowntrumpet · 31/10/2022 21:25

I'm so glad he's home

Silvercatowner · 01/11/2022 07:17

So pleased he's home. I've just looked at the tractive collars as I'd love to be able to track our cats. Someone needs to invent a tracker that can be implanted along with a microchip. Our cats are very feisty and don't tolerate collars (we have tried!). We'd know where the tracker was but that might not be very helpful!

AnnaMagnani · 01/11/2022 09:12

It took a bit of experimentation for us to get the collar the right level of tight for our cat not to take it off everyday.

Now it's every few months and luckily so far every property owner has been happy for us to poke round their gardens looking for it. A problem is that the most helpful way to find it is listening for it's sound - DH is very slightly deaf and can't hear it until he is practically standing on it.

Oopsiedaisyy · 01/11/2022 13:47

Well, attempt 1 lasted an hour when he came trotting back without it... Had to lurk in someone's drive listening for the tracker alert melody. Have gone off and bought a stretchy collar, so far he's been out briefly and returned with it on

AnnaMagnani · 01/11/2022 15:12

I found the Tractive collars need to be on a lot tighter than you think.

The instructions do say tight, but it took adjustment on our part to understand what they meant!

Honestly it is a relief he can take them off as I know he won't get stuck.

His trick appears to be having a roll on his back, either on someone's patio or a nice flat bit of dirt and the collar pings off. Helps because now if we are on a collar hunt, we know where to look.

If you press Find on the app, that's helpful as well - I didn't notice the function the first few times. It switches off the map and you get a target which is more and more full the nearer you are to the collar.

He's been found, he wandered into a house that was being visited on Monday while owner in hospital. Was spotted today by relatives in the window and they had seen my poster. He's scared, hungry and I'm so relieved.

Bloody cats! Such a cat thing to happen! So glad he has been found x

Oopsiedaisyy · 01/11/2022 15:45

He managed to lose the clip bit of the Tractive collar so going with a stretchy one this time. Fingers crossed.

So pleased that you have him home safely . Would it not be easier to cat proof your garden rather than go through all that stress again .

Fileexplorerrrr · 01/11/2022 16:56

Pleased to hear you’ve found him!

We use an AirTag on our cat which fits into an AirTag collar!

The trackers were a bit too bulky as our cat is quite tiny and the AirTags were perfect!

My family think I’m nuts but it’s come in handy quite a few times.

It would be quite expensive to do so... And i wouldn't trust it actually, he's an, Arabian Mau and far too cunning for his own good (he can unlock a locked cat flap)

And he loves wandering, loves going next door. Be hard to stop him from enjoying his natural instincts to roam.

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 01/11/2022 21:56

Same here!

He's so flipping bright he has outsmarted us on all efforts to get him home - we can't catch him anymore. He gets bribed in with a trail of treats like Hansel and Gretel.

These are cats with a massive jump, no fear, a lot of muscles and an ability to cling on upside down while climbing. Mine likes nothing more than climbing trees OK possibly fighting and walking into neighbours' houses to demand food

Combine this with brains and cat proofing suddenly becomes very difficult. Besides which not every garden lends itself to cat proofing.

It's so nice to hear about someone else's Mau, they are an amazing breed.
