Paws is early today

It's cold out there again!

My little Socks frightened me to death by vanishing for about 13 hours. She never goes far and almost always comes when she's called so I started to get worried by 6ish. Spent the evening bobbing in and out, calling her and rattling Dreamies before eventually going to bed, convinced she was shut in somewhere (or dead!). Even Matt seemed worried. I heard him shouting for her upstairs.
I woke up just before 3.30am and came down, and there she was at the back door. She was hungry and exhausted, and we haven't long got up after lovely cuddles in bed.
They do like to worry us!

It's hard to get a good photo of her but here she is in her best "please forgive me because I'm so cute" pose.

@Papergirl1968 glad she is back, so worrying when they disappear like that.

DCat2 has been out of sorts for a week, quiet and not her usual feisty self. I felt her all over for injuries and couldn't find anything but this morning it's clear an abscess has burst and she has a patch with no fur and a bite mark. It looks to have completely drained and I'm debating whether or not to take her to the vet or whether the main point of antibiotics has passed. This is a not infrequent occurrence (she doesn't realise that at 2.8kg she will come off worst in altercations) so I worry a bit about antibiotic resistance. Keeping an eye for the rest of the day but suspect it will be a visit to the vet this evening

@Defiantly41 Have you got insurance? They often have advice lines you can call.

Mine burst an abscess and had 5 days antibiotics.

@YesItsMeIDontCare no, no insurance, we "self-insure" (I used to be in that industry).

It's more the potential for antibiotic resistance I'm worried about (but I suspect I will take her anyway just in case!)

While they still work for the majority I’d still go.

Dh is on daily antibiotics for life and has been for years with no issues.

I’ve been on them daily since dec too and will be until dermatology see me for another course of isotretonoin.

I'd get it checked but explain to the vet about your worries.

Tbh I don't think I'd risk the possibility of an infection spreading. It's the bacteria that becomes resistant to antibiotics isn't it?

Since Poodlegate I always err on the side of caution with abscesses. I'd prefer a £100 precautionary bill to a £1000 one . (We also self insure)

People think I'm mad for self insuring but given that Leroy's bank account has as much in as the maximum DL will pay out in a 12 month period and they won't pay out for anything connected to his FIV (and let's be honest, they'd decide anything would be connected) I think it's a sensible option.

Maybe it's the fact that I refer to it as "Leroy's Account" that makes them think I've lost the plot... 😁

Socks is showing off her dear socks in the photo Papergirl1968. Thank goodness she found her way home. TC is getting more determined now the weather's better and there are more open doors and windows in Grumpy's house. Are you TC's only neighbour, Grumpy, or does TC do the same in other houses?

Laughing at Leroy's account. I think someone on the Premium Bonds thread has a PB account as self insurance, they buy PBs each month with the equivalent their premium would cost and withdraw if they need to to pay vet bills

I took her to the vet, it's a nasty abscess which they have lanced and flushed and given antibiotics, anti inflammatory and pain relief. I'm glad I took her as she was hiding it very well.

I’m on daily antibiotics and no probs at all. They come a lot stronger than abscess ones if you need the big guns.

I did open a Waitrose card for Monty when he was 18 (the form had an age restriction but didn't specify species). He never did any shopping there as far as I know though.

I am never opening an account for Ollie. Paws would steal the card and spend it all on fish fingers or something

Thanks Papergirl. She hid in the shoe cupboard for a while but is now in her doughnut bed next to me asleep, having eaten a teeny bit of M&S roast chicken. She's taking notes from Cap'n on the food front clearly.
