New kitten - so SHOUTY!

Flockameanie · 25/01/2022 10:59

We bought home our beautiful 12-week old kitten four days ago. He came from a very reputable breeder.

We love him. But, my god is he shouty. He meows (in a shouty way, not a sad way) ALL THE TIME. It makes no difference what we’re doing - he doesn’t stop if we play with him or cuddle him or leave him alone. He does it if we’re in the room with him or elsewhere. He even does it when he’s eating and sometimes in his sleep too. He’s so loud he drowns out the sound of the TV. He otherwise seems fine - eating, using the litter box, playing. Not hiding from us. Not massively affectionate yet but happy to be picked up for a bit and will occasionally come onto a lap. He’s confined to one room (the living room) though today we left the door to the next room (DH’s office) open and he’s ventured in there a bit.

Breeder says it’s normal for them to call out to their siblings/ mum for ‘a few days’ but that he should quieten down soon.

So I guess I’m just looking for reassurance! How long did your kitten cry/ shout for when they first arrived???

My new 12 week old kitty did this too. Luckily my 12 yesr old female cat adopted her and the kitten suckles from the older cat and plays with her. It has made her a lot quieter.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/01/2022 12:33

She also suckles on my fingers.

JorisBonson · 25/01/2022 12:33

My bengal girl is 11 and has never shut up. Perfectly normal!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2022 12:38

But vocal cats are just the best. You can have a full conversation with them!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2022 12:38

I'm sure @MaybeHeIsMyCat would agree!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/01/2022 12:41

An unusual looking Bengal!

canigooutyet · 25/01/2022 12:43

Kittens imo are like babies. I got a pair several years ago. One very quiet, the other very shouty.
I gave them something of mine as they preferred me to anyone else and the comfort seemed to quieten shouty boy.
Now years later when either of them start for no reason other than to annoy us, I tell them to go to their cover.

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 25/01/2022 12:44

Actually OP I’ve never tried to upload a video, so I’m not sure 🤔.

What a beautiful boy Smile

tcjotm · 25/01/2022 12:54

He’s probably worked out it gets him attention. My cat (generic tabby rescue moggy) shouts at me all the time. All the time. Oh my god, all the things I’m doing wrong, shouted at me.

Sometimes after she’s shouted at me to move over so she can sit on the warmed bit of the sofa she’ll go to sleep still shouting every now and again from her slumber. I’ve learned to be really good at reading her mind.

tcjotm · 25/01/2022 12:55

Oh and I think for videos they need to be uploaded to another platform (like YouTube) and then a link posted.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/01/2022 12:59

So is he a Snow Bengal then? (Following some internet squirreling Grin)

Whattochoosenow · 25/01/2022 13:02

We have a vocal moggy- sometimes his meow goes on so long I wonder where his breath comes from!

Flockameanie · 25/01/2022 13:03

Yes, he’s a snow lynx Bengal. Very white at the moment but markings will come out as he gets older

Will try the clothing with our scent on. He’s quite taken by DH, so will get him to put one of his jumpers where Mr Shouty McShouty usually sleeps
@SparklingLime we’re at home all day! He meows whether we’re with him or not. So I don’t think it’s a company thing. Or at least not human company.

I wish we could have got a pair, but it wasn’t feasible and the breeder has no issue with them going alone
Yes, the company of another feline is really important:

I thought he was going to do himself an injury last night. Meowed non-stop for over 3hrs! It’s actually sweet as he’s so small he meows with his whole body

My son recently bought a house and took his Bengal cat with him. It is silent at he home now in comparison. Son says Bengal makes as bow wow wow notice and thinks he's a dog. Seriously, he will always be very vocal, especially when he hears you talking to someone on the phone.

caringcarer · 25/01/2022 13:09

Actually Bengal males are best alone as tend to attack other cats.

trekcrockett · 25/01/2022 13:09

We have a 15 year old Bengal...he's the noisiest cat we know.
He shouts to be let out, shouts to come in, shouts for his dinner, shouts to let us know he's used the litter tray, shouts for a cuddle, shouts for anything!
He doesn't meow like the other cats, he just bellows!
Typical Bengal!

paname · 25/01/2022 13:10

He's a Bengal that's been mixed with a Siamese/oriental. That's how you get the white coat....We had a Bengal who never shut up. I'm afraid you're in for a loud one OP.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 25/01/2022 13:10

Mine shouted so much he lost his voice one day Grin

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 25/01/2022 13:11

We have a snow bengal. He can’t enter a room without announcing it. Getting on the bed requires a long one way conversation before he hops on Grin
He’s so gorgeous though, we can forgive the
Midnight song fests on the landing
Good luck 🤣

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/01/2022 13:15

A Bengal with Siamese in his ancestry GrinShock

Comes with a volume knob that goes to 11?
