Rescue cat refusing all comforts

We've had our rescue 4 months now, he's less jumpy but still quiet and taking his time with us. He comes for head bumps now and let's us stroke him. He sleeps in the floor, I've bought him a radiator bed as he loves heart, I've bought him a cave bed for night-time, I've bought him a donut bed. I'd love to see him lying in comfort and enjoying the softness but he's not interested. He loves lying in my bed when I'm there so he likes soft things. Is there any way I can encourage him to use the expensive and lovely beds I've got him? I've tried putting treats in the bed but he grabs the treat then jumps out. Dh has banned me from buying anything else for him. I'd love to see him curled up in any one of the beautiful comfy beds I've bought him. Hate seeing him on the cold hard floor every day. Any tips?

I have 3 cats and 3 cat beds. They are very similar, to the human eye. The felines know that 2 of them are evil doorways to cat doom and must never be approached. Only one is acceptable, particularly when someone else is already in it.

Here's one of my rescue cats making himself really comfortable in his favourite spot - right in the middle of the living room floor.

Maximum inconvenience to humans.

Aww OP you sound so lovely and I'm so glad your cat has found his home with you.

You can't see very well in this pic but DFluffyCat is sleeping draped across the sticking up handles of two tall plastic laundry baskets, covered only with a couple of dresses that really need a wash after being packed away for two years. Not at all a soft comfy spot! I have no idea how she was comfortable but she stayed there for hours purring happily.

Also have radiator beds, igloo beds and unicorn fluffy beds - they've never touched them.

DNinjaCat has deigned to sleep on top of the first cat bed I ever bought them, but only with an uncovered pillow on top - and I have watched her bat the whole thing onto the floor in favour of sleeping on the bare wood of the chest it sits on.

They're proper little oddballs but I love them!

(And persevere with the cuddles, it was about 7 months after they arrived with me as 6 month old kittens before I could touch my fluffy girl, she was terrified of everything :( but she realised within the first year that she'd found her forever home, and relaxed a lot, and 8 years on she is a bundle of love and comes and asks for cuddles several times a day

Just wanted to add my own “cat refusing to sleep anywhere comfortable” photos. He has his own beds. The dog sometimes sleeps in one, when the cat has stolen hers.

He's the spit of my late girl cat, @Sp1ke3 - who also used to steal the dog's bed.

Felt I couldn’t sleep tonight but now think I will after looking at all these lovely cat pics and being reminded that there is good in the world! Thank you cat lovers…

Both of ours prefer boxes, sun spots on the floor or windowsill, ironing board for one of them & anything that looks bloody uncomfortable for the other... & of course anything you don't want them lying on

My 2 have never slept in a cat bed. They will sleep anywhere but their own bed. Particular favorites of theirs include the dogs bed, our beds, or the middle of the stairs so you feel like you are going to die everytime you try and get past them. 🙄

Mine actually sleep at night in their cat beds on the landing. They do have a variety of other beds that they've ignored for a long time, including two identical cat sized sofas. Eventually they deigned to try one of them but ignored the other. However they do use their cat tree now, having ignored it for two years.

Our cat prefers a cardboard box to her cat mattress which is behind though DHs pillow is great, she is terrified of all things fluffy.

Mine loves a box or 2. A rare pic of him in one of his many “unsuitable” beds.

Spot the underfloor heating. My last foster cat and her kittens. One of the adopters sent me a picture of her two kittens curled up in a cat bed together, I assume she drugged them.

Get your child to get a large box. Make a cat House out of it. Mine love it and they hate baskets etc. Or failing that stick a suitcase on floor 🤔

This was my most recent gamble. We've been through the whole gamut and all have been rejected for reasons only known to cats.
But this is a dog bed, so there's your answer.

Silkiecat was found lying on a teddy bear fleece duvet we had just bought and still rolled up. So I saw the shop did teddy bear fleece cat beds, bought one, Silkiecat was terrified of it, not helped by DH put in on her chair and as she walked past it fell on top of her causing mad panic and proof it was alive. So we then tried a teddy bear fleece pillowcase on the chair, as dh walked past he said he did not see a cat but a big purr came from the chair, he looed and Silkiecat was on the pillowcase.

We bought DCat2 a lovely soft bed that she resolutely ignored. We were having a clear out so put it on a large pile of boxes to go to the charity shop. She loves it on top of the boxes. So the boxes are still piled up in the corner of the room, with the cat bed on top. She does quite like her cat cave as is though.

Yes, contrary buggers, dont bother with scratch posts either, my male cat preferences killing two mallow trees in my garden with his clawing, or fancy water bowls. My cats drink out of the water butt, sticking their paw in through the hole and drinking off their wet paw

The back of the sofa is a favourite spot for my cat, as is a cardboard box.
