Your cat might be thirsty!

Please make sure your cat has unrestricted access to fresh water.

They need it. Especially during this hot weather.

Don't just think a bowl of water next to the food bowl is enough.

Put another one in the bath - you'd be surprised how often your cat goes there looking for a drink of water.

If you can put up with it, leave a tap dripping! Cats love to catch water drips on their tongues.

It just so important to make sure they get enough water.

We all know how vulnerable cats are to kidney problems, dont we?

Is that why my cat goes and stands in the bath??! I had no idea! I have two bowls available to her. One upstairs and one down...I'd better pop one in the bloody bath too then. She'll probably throw it at me knowing her. :D

Hamnetssister · 07/07/2021 10:01

My cat loves a dripping tap.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/07/2021 10:27

My parents cat life's drinking from the tap. Mine can't reach the sink. They also love a beaker of water.

WorriedWishingWell · 07/07/2021 10:31

My cat woke me up drinking, or rather slurping - water from the glass on my bedside table last night. She has her own bowl which is in a different room to her food, as apparently they like their food and drink sources to be separate.
She also enjoys water from our micro bee pond thing.

fantasmasgoria1 · 07/07/2021 10:39

My cat rarely drinks. She has 2 sources of water available but rarely drinks. We give her bowls of cat milk which she will drink. Our vet said not to worry because cats will let us know if they have a problem and she gets water from her wet food.

Cactuslockdown · 07/07/2021 10:43

My cat prefers the dog’s water… my dogs prefers the cat’s water!!

mistermagpie · 07/07/2021 10:44

One of my cats would rather drink out of the toilet than from her (always full) water bowl! Apparently she is a pedigree...

Priceyslefteyebrow · 07/07/2021 10:48

I put water in the cat food that has jelly round it. They always drink it

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/07/2021 10:49

All my cats have far preferred DP's paint water (he paints models most evenings!). What absolutely weirdo's they are! It's disgusting!

dementedpixie · 07/07/2021 10:54

My 2 drink out the pond rather than the water bowl

WallaceinAnderland · 07/07/2021 10:55

My cat won't drink tap water. We catch rain water but sometimes it runs out.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/07/2021 10:55

My cat only has wet food , I've never seen him drink from his bowl inside. I sometimes add extra water to his food.

notangelinajolie · 07/07/2021 11:03

My cat has a mug of her own. It sits on the sill in the conservatory and we keep it topped up with water. She won't drink from her cat bowl. Apparently cats don't like food and water next to each other.

Kotatsu · 07/07/2021 11:05

Mine have a fountain, little bowls left lying around in my bathroom, and on the side in the kitchen (boy cat likes to sit on a chair and watch me cook) These are largely ignored.

They prefer to lick dew off the grass, slurp from the plant saucers, drips from the walls in the shower, or even my bath water (while I'm still in it!).. because cats. What can you do.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/07/2021 11:07

Our cat has clean, fresh water, replaced at least twice a day. She only ever drinks from the bird bath or the lid of the wheelie bin though.

DoraChance · 07/07/2021 11:13

Mine is also a bird bath fan!

TroysMammy · 07/07/2021 11:13

Mine has a pet mate so it's pretty big. He also runs into the shower when I've finished to lick the tiles. There is a bowl in the garden and he probably has access to icky water somewhere in the neighbourhood too.

NotMyCat · 07/07/2021 11:16

Mine is drinking out the neighbours posh new water feature Blush he seems to think it's especially for him

violetbunny · 07/07/2021 11:16

In the summer, our cats have an outdoor water bowl in the garden (in addition to their regular indoor one). I change the outdoor water daily and the indoor water twice a day. They definitely use both, even though they can come and go through the cat flap.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 07/07/2021 11:19

I bought one of those cat fountains (see pic) last year, thinking they would love it!

How wrong was I?

They all just had a bit of a sniff at it (because it was something new!) and have totally ignored it ever since, the little buggers!

I thought they might have liked the trickling movement of the filtered water.

But, no! They prefer a dripping tap instead.

Oh well! As long as they're happy... Confused

Mine have inside water. Still wake me up in the middle of the night demanding shower water. Or drink from the kids glasses of water. And we have an old ice cream tub full of water underneath the outside tap that they and the neighbourhood cats all drink out of.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 07/07/2021 11:21

Here's the pic!

My late cat used to sit in a bathroom sink and lick the tap with the dodgy washer.

Never got it fixed during his lifetime

RevolvingPivot · 07/07/2021 11:45

My cat never drinks from her bowl. She will sometimes drink from a glass of water that someone is having or water that's been collected in garden toys when it's rained.

ShakespearesSisters · 07/07/2021 11:50

We have a fountain like that @WheresThatCatGoneNow and luckily my cat loves it. He is also keen on the pond and any cups of tea or milkshake left around. I think licking the shower tray is his favourite though.
