Your cat might be thirsty!

Please make sure your cat has unrestricted access to fresh water.

They need it. Especially during this hot weather.

Don't just think a bowl of water next to the food bowl is enough.

Put another one in the bath - you'd be surprised how often your cat goes there looking for a drink of water.

If you can put up with it, leave a tap dripping! Cats love to catch water drips on their tongues.

It just so important to make sure they get enough water.

We all know how vulnerable cats are to kidney problems, dont we?

Mine prefers water that's been out a day. Have three bowls that I rotate so there's always an old bowl and a fresh one. Nine times out of ten, she'll drink out of the older bowl and ignore the fresh!

warmfluffytowels · 07/07/2021 17:07

All three of mine prefer to drink out of the dogs' bowl - or out of the sink. So if I've left dishes to soak they'll drink that water instead and fall in

When they do fall in, I am not, under any circumstances, allowed to laugh, or Fat Cat gives me the evil eye Grin

I don't know where OP is but I'm in North Yorkshire and I'm melting here.

Mine does drink out of her water bowl, well I think she does, I don't really see her drink but it goes down a lot. She must drink it sneakily.
I love all these posts, cats are so weird Grin

ItsNotNormalLove · 07/07/2021 17:17

My indoor cat hardly ever drank his tap water. He'd seem to wait until he was completely dehydrated before he'd go near it. Then I started giving him filtered tap water - bingo! He drinks loads now Grin
He never drinks from anywhere else.

motogogo · 07/07/2021 17:19

Please don't leave taps dripping. Water shortages do happen!

Mia184 · 07/07/2021 17:25

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

My cat only has wet food , I've never seen him drink from his bowl inside. I sometimes add extra water to his food.
My cat is the same. I still offer her water but have never seen her drinking it. My vet told me not to worry since she doesn‘t get any dry food.
warmfluffytowels · 07/07/2021 17:35

Domestic cats get most of the moisture in their diets from their wet food - it's a huge reason why I would never feed a dry-only diet. Mine get wet food twice a day, every day.

JoanOgden · 07/07/2021 17:41

Mine refuses water (even grotty puddle water) so I add water to her wet food, which she then slurps up enthusiastically.

MargaretFraggle · 07/07/2021 17:45

I leave bowls in the garden and collect rain in them. They go for a grotty waterlogged plant pot as a preference. Mine ignore any/all indoor bowls of tap water but I still leave them out.

There is a queue for the bath tap in our house.

My cat (and my previous one) don't touch the water. I keep fresh clean water out every day just in case but she has never been interested. She likes cat milk sometimes.

I'm in Lancashire, and it's just been so stuffy and humid here for what seems like weeks!

I keep wishing we could have a really good thunderstorm to clear the air.

Harry won't drink from a tap, only his water bowl or a puddle. I bought him a fountain but he refused to go in the kitchen when it was on! I moved his water bowl away from his food and he didn't drink as much, I think it was too much effort for him. He's a bit old to jump up for a tap now and we don't have a bath which is probably a good idea as he'd get stuck - not that I'm saying he's accident prone of course! He's just odd!

Ah.... hot being 20/21 then. Lol.

I'm joshing with you, but no, that's really not hot enough to worry about our pusscats.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 08/07/2021 11:18

Still too hot for me, though!

Roll on Winter ❄😉

I'm in Lancashire and my cat is mostly doing this

Your cat might be thirsty!

I'm in east Yorkshire and we've had 2 days of thunderstorms and rain here.

My cats used to have a pet mate fountain but rarely used it. I've switched to a small bowl of water instead and now it's almost always finished 😂 mostly by fat cat. Little cat doesn't drink much

They both have wet food twice a day as well

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 08/07/2021 12:30

Yep! Same here!

we have 3 x 2 litre bowls in various places, changed daily. They seem to enjoy the big bowls much more than the little cat specific ones. One is on wet food, one mostly dry with the odd wet pouch but they both like a good drink at least once a day (that I see anyway... I'm home all day but mostly in my office)
