Your cat might be thirsty!

Please make sure your cat has unrestricted access to fresh water.

They need it. Especially during this hot weather.

Don't just think a bowl of water next to the food bowl is enough.

Put another one in the bath - you'd be surprised how often your cat goes there looking for a drink of water.

If you can put up with it, leave a tap dripping! Cats love to catch water drips on their tongues.

It just so important to make sure they get enough water.

We all know how vulnerable cats are to kidney problems, dont we?

Let me know if she likes it, FortunesFave!

I put fresh water in the bath bowl at least twice a day. The level goes down, so, obviously, someone is drinking it. I've got a pretty good idea who - judging by the Olympic-sized wees he does in the litter tray... 🙀

Ours love the fountains, we have one upstairs and one downstairs (3 cats). They still love a tap drip, and Best Ever is puddle/bin lid water Hmm

Theunamedcat · 07/07/2021 12:13

I have one that gets in the shower with me he is on one side of the curtain drinking water from by my feet im the other side washing my hair 🙃

PurpleRainDancer · 07/07/2021 12:14

Bit patronising OP

SoupDragon · 07/07/2021 12:22

Especially during this hot weather.

Hot weather you say....?

Theunamedcat · 07/07/2021 12:24

Apparently cats have it ingrained into them to never drink where they eat because mice etc pee in the water and contaminate it if they were in the wild some domestic cats still act like this even my indoor ones do they have never SEEN a real mouse let alone caught one they have the upstairs bath tap my shower water a cup on the window and a bowl that I regularly move around (because I keep tripping over it)

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 07/07/2021 12:25

Ours likes the outside dog water bowl. Some animals prefer it if the water has stood awhile rather than fresh from the tap.

PassTheVinoTinto · 07/07/2021 12:50

Our DCat never drank out of a water bowl, so I bought a water fountain from Amazon. As soon as it was unpacked he went straight to it & drank from it - best thing I ever bought.

He also like to sit in the bath while I'm on the toilet, drinking from the tap - I have to sit down before he'll drink though!

Jaxhog · 07/07/2021 12:54

@WallaceinAnderland

My cat won't drink tap water. We catch rain water but sometimes it runs out.
Ours too. Although his favourite place is the dirty water on the manhole cover.
ipswichwitch · 07/07/2021 13:06

We keep a plastic tub outside that fills with rainwater, and we keep it topped up with hose water for our cat. She also likes getting int he shower when we’ve got out so she can lick the tiles! She has never yet drank out the water bowl we got for her

JorisBonson · 07/07/2021 13:10

Girl cat is a camel and only seems to drink water on the sly. Boy cat is a fish - his favourite vessels are my glass, rainwater on a table and puddles.

FlatteredFool · 07/07/2021 13:14

Borrowed cats will only drink filthy rain water from the paddling pool cover or my iced water at bedtime. Nothing else is good enough. If I add ice cubes to a bowl of fresh water they might sometimes drink it if desperate. Bloody cats.

Allergictoironing · 07/07/2021 15:12

My cats are weird - they both drink reasonable amounts from the same water bowl that sits next to their dry food. TBH I think one of them may be using the water to rinse their mouth out after eating, as it seems to gather bits of no longer dry food at a vast rate.

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/07/2021 15:17

In all my 50 odd years, none of the cats we have had have ever drunk anything out of a bowl. In fact I have never seen them drinking anything from anywhere, other than the odd puddle.

Also, where are you OP. Hot weather Shock, it's been dull and cold all bloody summer.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/07/2021 15:20

My cat drinks from the pond and a manky plant saucer of assorted stones. Never the beautiful bowl.

Heronatemygoldfish · 07/07/2021 16:08

Mine refuse fresh tap water. They will only drink if it's been standing around and any chlorine has evaporated. Like Dobby's, they drink rainwater (I leave a plant saucer outside the door) or the pond... but there's always some liquid for them. I've caught one drinking out of a full watering can that I'd left to lose its chlorine so I could top up the pond.

sociallydistained · 07/07/2021 16:11

Mine love sticking their heads in my fresh glass of water … or alternatively drinking from a muddy puddle Hmm

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/07/2021 16:14

Mine have a fountain which they love.

ahoyshipmates · 07/07/2021 16:27

From my long association with felines, I can tell you that the only acceptable beverage is scabby festering puddle water out of a random container in the garden.

NotMyCat · 07/07/2021 16:54

@ahoyshipmates my cat loves stagnant green water Envy
Or water licked off the windowsill. He does drink out his bowl but the neighbours new water feature is his new choice now. I found him paws propped up, paddling in it Blush

atracurious · 07/07/2021 16:58

Agreeed OP. We also keep two small water bowls around the house in case we accidentally shut the utility door and she can't access her water. Learnt that once when DD closed the door

PuppyMonkey · 07/07/2021 16:59

My cat will only drink water from a plastic glass placed on the landing. If I place it in the wrong spot, she won’t drink it.

DD used to have a pink Barbie swimming pool which she filled with water when playing with her Barbie stuff. Cat also enjoyed drinking water from this.Confused

If someone needs to be told that they probably shouldn’t have pets ....

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/07/2021 17:02

One of mine drinks out of the water bowl, but I have rarely seen the other two drink. One likes to sit in the bathroom (and wees in the toilet!), so maybe he’s licking drips from the bath. I have only ever seen ninja girl cat drinking when we had the paddling pool up last summer - and someone scared her so she dug her claws in and burst a section, grr!

Crappyfridays7 · 07/07/2021 17:05

Our cats have their own water bowl and love the bath they also drink from the dogs water bowl too, I think it gets filled up much more so it’s fresh. One cat likes the dogs paddling pool can’t burst it luckily
